Guest Posted 17 February 2016 Posted 17 February 2016 Anyway, England like many clubs in the premier league believe they have to play a 'specific' way. Which is possession football. England are shit, plain & simple. They, like so many teams in the Premier League are trying to play a style that is starting to become out-dated. That is why we have flourished this season, our high pressing and counter attacking style has wiped the floor with these muck possession teams. England's arrogance to change will again be their downfall. It's their loss not Drinkwater's if he's not in the starting 11 let alone the squad. I think England went through an identity crisis sometime during the 'Golden Generation' when reality failed to meet expectations. We've probably been changing the wrong things, or at least the things we were/are changing are long-term projects that won't bring results til much later, if at all. Personally, I think a better route would be to play to the strengths of our footballing culture. We naturally prefer a more physical, pacey and attacking style of football. Okay, that's contrary to most countries and isn't always appreciated by referees at international matches, but probably better to develop a smarter approach within our core strengths than to abandon them completely for a system that we're not very adept at.
Number 6 Posted 19 February 2016 Posted 19 February 2016 I can see why people think it's a red and wouldn't have been surprised or had too many complaints were it given as one. To be moaning about it when Flamini produced a shocker the week before is ridiculous though. That was a much worse challenge.
GingerrrFox Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 There's not a better out and out English centre midfielder than Danny Drinkwater at the moment. (Delle Alli plays as number 10 before any one starts). He has to start for England at the Euros.
notnow john Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Thought he was quiet against Norwich but last night he was inspirational!

He has to start for England at the Euros. No chance of that happening. There's more chance of Loftus Cheek or Ryan Mason going.

He really stepped up last night and would definitely agree there is no English midfielder like him. To be honest all of our English starters should get called up for the friendlies, but I cant see Roy going for Albrighton or Simpson unfortunately.
Babylon Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Nice to see him firing again, wasn't himself against Norwich but dictated almost all our play last night.
Bayfox Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 No chance of that happening. There's more chance of Loftus Cheek or Ryan Mason going. That says more about the England management than it does about Drinky.
lgfualol Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 That says more about the England management than it does about Drinky. Yeah, there's no chance they'll take two Leicester players. I think Roy would rather take shite players that hardly play for their traditional top 6 club than Leicester.
possiblygeorge Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 So much love for this guy. As soon as he received the ball i had a flashback to the goal he kicked against stoke (?) from a similar position and did almost exactly the same thing. In the scheme of things he's an underrated player.
MC Prussian Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 He was very good last night, reminded me of Kanté in some way - as if he was taking over N'Golo's role and handing his own over to King. Good positioning, great at tracking back, good vision and overall very apt at stretching play or going forward if need be. I'm not concerned about our midfield options going into the Watford game, that's for sure.

I think we've got every position worked out perfectly, it's just the full points we're finding it a bit hard to come by. I reckon we do some damage with this squad in the CL next season, not a lot, but we'll have our say in most or some if it
Guest Papasmurf Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Was he invited to that England squad get together?
Countryfox Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Nice to see him firing again, wasn't himself against Norwich but dictated almost all our play last night. Best player on the pitch .. and thats saying something.
StanSP Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Was he invited to that England squad get together?I believe so. And fully deserved too.
Ozwin Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 He's added that Xavi'esk turn to his game now, he's immense.
Guest Manini Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 He looks as comfortable on the ball now as some of the established, all time, top midfielders.
Thracian Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 What especially pleased me about Drinkwater last night was having the shot from which we scored and keeping it down. I've mentined way back that if he does this regularly and avoids skying them then it's always possible we'll get a deflected goal or a goal from a rebound. Shots disturb defenders but they need to pose a threat.
TheSomersetFox Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 He runs all day, tackles brilliantly, moves the ball quickly, can pick out any pass and is finally getting more shots off at goal. Becoming the complete midfielder and I wouldn't say he's even at his peak yet. Goes under the radar as well considering just how good he's been for us so i'd be surprised if any of the 'big' clubs came in with serious offers. Not sure when his current contract runs till but we have to get him on another long term deal soon surely? pure class
AyewJoking Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Is it greedy to have the worlds best 2 central midfielders?
Sampson Posted 2 March 2016 Posted 2 March 2016 Fun fact: There was a Yugoslavian footballer in the 70s called Danilo Popivoda who's name literally translates as "Daniel Drinkwater". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danilo_Popivoda
