Kinowe Soorie Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 What English central midfielder, is better than Drinky?
Max Power Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 Don't care if he plays for England or not. Just keep turning in these great performances for Leicester City. Great today.
ajthefox Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 Won't have seen much there today... I'm just imagining him sat there on his ones for 90 minutes, coming out afterwards and still managing to praise harry and his mate delle..
sdb Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 What English central midfielder, is better than Drinky? Gazza 1990, Gerrard 2004, Shelvey 2016
Kinowe Soorie Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 Gazza 1990, Gerrard 2004, Shelvey 2016 Current! Not Shelvey!!
Thracian Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 Danny needs to keep working on his shooting - not just his technique but his mental attitude. Shooting is an area of responsibility. The more responsibility you take the greater your chance of being successful...if you work on the mental aspects of hitting the target. And so much of it is mental. Drinkwater has excellent technique. So he has to eliminate the things that affect his accuracy. To me, fear is the biggest thing...in other words, letting outside situations affect your focus. The great marksmen have this inbuilt desire to get something on the ball and steer it exactly where they intend - whatever's going on. Given a clear break they don't panic but stay calm and ruthless - making sure that, first and foremost, the ball is directed towards the net because you can't score if the ball goes high or wide. What really excites me is that Drinkwater seems to be working on these things. He's shooting more and today he's earned some success. What's important now is for him to get more success than he has in the past and that means still more effort to gain possession near the goal, more willingness to be selfish and shoot and more focus on first of all being accurate. It'll be a major step forward to him and with it will surely come a guaranteed England place.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 If he doesn't get an England call up , I will literally run 5k in my underpants
ajthefox Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 That sounds like a lose lose to me mate, he's got no chance.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 That sounds like a lose lose to me mate, he's got no chance. Best central midfield I have seen... no loss here, England beckons
AyewJoking Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 If he doesn't get an England call up , I will literally run 5k in only my underpants
Clever Fox Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 As one of his biggest critics over the last few seasons I'm so delighted he's taken his criticism and turned it into a positive by working hard and taken his game to the next level. He not only scored today but he set Vardy up for the second with a wonderfully waited pass to Vardy. He's growing in confidence now that he's a settled member of the Team and one of the first on the Team sheet each week. Keep it up Danny.
Dr The Singh Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 Good game today, still room for improvement, a couple of times he could have made some simple passes to create opportunities, rather then the Hollywood balls, but ever imoroving. Lime the previous poster, I had him.down for the championship, and doubted he would ever be good enough
Great Boos Up Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 He's been getting closer and closer with long range shots outside the area. Now he's got one he's gonna get 10
EverybodyDannsNow Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 Deserves an England call up. He's been brilliant all season, but especially today
Guest Col city fan Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 Said before, he didnt get much time last season. He couldn't 'be better' because he didn't have enough, consistent games to get up to form. And he didn't have Kante. You do the math...
st albans fox Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 Not meant as a dig at Nigel but he never gave Danny a proper chance last season in his favoured central position. tended to play him on the right of the diamond. He is a quality player but he is also very much a confidence player. An England call up will do him the world of good, especially as I think the media and public will regard it as deserved. Matty James may surprise a few next campaign aswell, once he has had a pre season.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 I'm not convinced we'd have got this Drinky last season without all the other factors in our current team. Was wondering whether he might be out for Amartey at some stage but no chance playing like he did today. Superb performance.
Countryfox Posted 23 January 2016 Posted 23 January 2016 If he doesn't get an England call up , I will literally run 5k in my underpants Get some practice in mate cus its going to happen .... As Thrac said he's working on improving his game and when the goals come (as they surely will) he will be close to the finished article. I think having a fantastic player like Cambo at the club last season has had a positive influence on him. The only thing that surprises me is that other teams have not had their beady eye on him.

I think having a fantastic player like Cambo at the club last season has had a positive influence on him. The only thing that surprises me is that other teams have not had their beady eye on him. Are we back on this again? Attributing everything to Cambiasso? Our great escape coincided with Cambiasso giving team talks? Drinkwater was more than happy to wait for a season until Cambiasso left for Greece because he 'learned from him'. Can people still not accept that this season's central midfield is so much better than last season's, it's almost untrue. As far as I can see, we still have the bulk of last year's first team. The big change is Kante for Cambiasso. Frankly, thank God. As for Drinkwater, him and Kante are like him and James in the Championship..They come as a pair, play as a pair and are instinctively knowing each others game. Again, we didn't have that last season.

st albans fox Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Here we go again... Look at the stats, he had plenty of time. but not in his favoured psition. have a think back to the dark days last season. some of the best football i recall us playing was the first 25 minutes at anfield where DD was in central midfield. cambi was on the bench having a rest i think. DD got another thigh strain that day after half an hour. the point being that when he got the chance to play central midfield rather than on the right, he performed well.
MC Prussian Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 Danny Drinkwater hailed the 'English Andrea Pirlo' by team-mate Christian Fuchs Drinkwater scored his first goal of the season in City's 3-0 victory over Stoke at the King Power Stadium that sent Claudio Ranieri's men back to the top of the Premier League. The midfielder also set up Jamie Vardy for City's second goal in a superb all-round display, taking his tally to five assists for the season. City left-back Fuchs likened Drinkwater to Italy and former Juventus playmaker Andrea Pirlo, who is renowned for his vision and passing. Fuchs tweeted a picture of him with Drinkwater after the game with the caption: "Nice goal and assist from the English Pirlo." Drinkwater's performances this season has led to calls for him to be called up to Roy Hodgson's England squad for Euro 2016. "I always tell him to shoot at goal because if you don't shoot you can't score a goal," said City boss Claudio Ranieri. "It is important for him and his confidence because he is a hard worker and a good passer, a very good midfielder. "I don't know (about England). Of course Roy Hodgson is watching us and if he needs some of my players I am very pleased to give them to him." http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Leicester-City-midfielder-Danny-Drinkwater-hailed/story-28590775-detail/story.html
majaco Posted 24 January 2016 Posted 24 January 2016 I wonder if Hodgson noticed Drinkwater scored. He probably thinks that it was Ryan Mason that scored.
