Mark Lawrenson's Predictions

Recommended Posts

For the record, his job isn't actually to predict the outcome of all the games. It's just a feature

sack him off that feature. get someone in who actually has a clue what they're talking about and not some has-been.

Or just let him keep doing these silly predictions and have everyone else not get all worked up about silly predictions.

Remember when he got loads of abuse on here because he predicted we wouldn't score for the first time all season at Anfield.............. And then we didn't score.

I also remember when he had us down for a loss something like 12 times in a row and got it wrong everytime

I wasn't suggesting his job was purely prediction based. He's just as bad at the punditry. He's garbage and I've never liked the man as player or pundit.

Either the BBC love how wound up people get by Lawrenson and Garth Crooks or they just genuinely don't have a clue

I don't understand how the Beeb haven't phased this guy out over the years. They're drafting in no-marks like Jenas, Danny "wouldn't pay £10M for Vardy" Mills and Kevin Kilbane but somehow he manages to pick up a wage. Aside from being a Liverpool stalwart he never achieved anything after he packed up. Lasted 2 minutes at Oxford and was the defence coach for Newcastle (which worked out as well as you'd imagine).

I used to respect his opinion but he's right up there with Motson as the most irritating BBC "expert" churning out 3rd hand info and giggling to himself in the commentary box.

What are you on about? They barely have him on match of the day anymore, he's been phased out to the point where the only place he's boiling piss is insecure mentals reading his predictions.

He reminds me of one of my Dad's old mates.  My Dad used to play for Lincoln City under Graham Taylor and there was a defender just like Lawro who used to turn up to my Dads new years eve parties wearing C & A clothes and grey slip-ons, mullet and a tash and sit there slagging city off all night

Even the Mirror has picked up on his predictions now:

Mark Lawrenson's prediction league now looks hugely flattering to Liverpool and harsh on Leicester

Lawro's Liverpool love in might come as no surprise, but his underestimation of The Foxes is quite astounding...

Though we're sure it's entirely unintentional, Mark Lawrenson can sometimes be a little flattering in his assessment of Liverpool .

After winning five league titles, a spate of domestic trophies and one European Cup with a club, it's inevitable that an ex-player will hold a certain affection for his former employers. It's impossible to put that old fondness aside completely.

However, Lawro's BBC prediction league now looks ridiculously flattering to The Reds. Conversely, he's been really quite harsh on high-flying Leicester . Make that brutally harsh, in fact.

As we all know, Lawrenson takes on a celebrity guest in a prediction head-to-head each week. His predictions are then tallied up and turned into an alternative Premier League table - the table according to Lawro, if you will.

As you can see below, he's put fourteen league places between Jurgen Klopp's side and The Foxes. Check it out.

Not only has Lawrenson got Liverpool in 3rd place (after defeat to West Ham , they're actually in 8th), his predictions suggest they should have 43 points as opposed to their rather less impressive total of 30 . He's backed them to win 12 games - over half their fixtures.

Meanwhile, Lawro's Leicester languish down in 17th, only one point above his imaginary relegation zone. In reality, they're 2nd in the table with 28 points more than he's allocated them.

We get the Liverpool love, Lawro, but what have Leicester ever done to you?!

He said more or less nothing about Leicester, which is ignorance rather than hatred.

I think if one just assumes Lawro will publish with utter contempt, then it is rather easier to dismiss.

Well, to be fair to him he's basically saying their second string squad is better than our second string squad, which isn't unreasonable.

He rates the Spurs squad higher overall, but that doesn't mean that we can't hold up our own with a starting XI consisting of bench regulars mostly.

Again, just an assumption on his behalf. We might as well edge it with the inclusion of two or three regulars.

Spurs could put out their first XI on Sunday against our reserves, with us dominating the match 1-3 or something, and Lawro would STILL predict us to lose 2-0 in the league match for some bullsh*t reason like "they've lacked firepower lately, and I really fancy Harry Kane to get a brace against the Midlanders".

Tosser.

I doubt Lawro even knows who our second string players are

Besides the obvious ones, I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't know our first team players either...
