Mythyaar Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Klopp got his tactics right even though a little lucky with Origi injury and Benteke early sub (who was far more effective). They closed us down high up predictably Mahrez. He identified our weakness to be our left and Clyne terrorised Albrighton. King gave possession away cheaply. Kante was exposed with no cover or back up. Huth was v pedestrian throughout. They're the negatives. Positives: Morgan and Kante immense again. Schlupp when back will sort the left side issue out with his pace and power, likewise Drinkwater will back kante up more ably than king. Such a shame inler hasn't the legs these days but pressing pace and power is what our success has been based on recently.
MC Prussian Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 The whole squad looked tired and off pace. In hindsight, it would've been better to give some of the regular bench players a chance to shine instead. If the rumours about Vardy's upcoming OP are true, maybe he should've been given a rest, as well. Relying on the same starting XI in such a heavy-program phase of the season can't be useful. We were far from being effective. We lacked energy, composure and the intention of really going forward plus were losing pretty much every single midfield battle, even Kanté was less imposing than usually. Not sure what King added to the squad yesterday, Fuchs got found out a few times on the left (leaving too much space between him and the attacker) and there was little impetus initiating own attacks overall. Liverpool approached the match like I expected them to - trying to cover the embarrassing performance at Watford. They pressed hard, were more accurate with their passing and in general showed more desire to win the game.
coolhandfox Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Due a poor performance, too many players had an off day! Vardy hasn't looked fully fit for a few games. For me if we are really going for top 4, we need a couple of quality player in January, a forward and another midfielder.
foxfanazer Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Hopefully this result and performance shows our players that we have to keep working harder than anybody else to stay where we are. Maybe it was fatigue, complacency or just an off day but that wasn't what we have come to expect from this great side. Hope the hunger is back for Tuesday night
roblcfc84 Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 I think CR made a few errors but nothing to worry about yet, around 55-60 mins it was clear that we needed an extra midfielder in there as we couldn't get out or keep hold of the ball. The goal was coming and I believe he should have made his move earlier. With regard to Shinji I have tried to be patient and not judge him too harshly but in truth he is simply not good enough. There was a moment in the first half when Kante broke and was fouled from behind, Shinji just didn't know what run to make and ended up just getting flattened by the CB off the ball. Severe lack of genuine pace and strength. Ulloa offers a lot more for me, and whilst a lot of ppl slating kramaric, who I actually felt tried to get involved but in difficult circumstances. Proves for me that a second striker is essential. Also think a fit James could have made difference as a deep lying player yesterday.
dannythefox Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Watched the goal loads of times now and its shocking defending again how can you let a striker have 5 yards of space in the box? If we're to finish top 6 we need to sort the sloppy goals out we let them in nearly every game!
Ricey Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Tactically outwitted and didn't adapt to stop Liverpool's dominance. At half time I was crying out for an extra man in midfield in replace of an ever-ineffective Okazaki. It just wasn't working. The Tinkerman is far from it. The worry is that other teams will replicate Liverpool's tactics today. However, despite that, we are always capable of scoring and could have easily got a point.
filbertway Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Could be a blessing in disguise today. It shows that we could do with strengthening the squad and getting in a few top players if we are serious about trying to maintain a top 4 position.

Could have said the same at Everton last week though. Didn't change it there and scored three within 20 minutes.
Harry - LCFC Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Could have said the same at Everton last week though. Didn't change it there and scored three within 20 minutes. I didn't think we were dominated by Everton like we were by Liverpool though.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 I didn't think we were dominated by Everton like we were by Liverpool though. Not quite to the same extent but I think the comparison can be made. I can see why people wanted an extra midfielder in there but Ranieri would have known he needed to replace Vardy at some stage so I think it would have been tricky to make it work, and we've had so many strong second half attacking displays that I can forgive us not going defensive. I'm not sure their dominance was due to numbers anyway - we were giving the ball away all over the pitch and they were getting in down the sides or into the channels rather than going through our midfield.
waylander Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Liverpool season ticket holder for the last 20 years. Felt i had to register as i have read most of these posts and its evident that as well as a class team you also have fans with class who are gracious in defeat. I can honestly say following my club for all these years I've been on an emotional rollercoaster but never have i not fancied Liverpool to win at Anfield to any club like i did at kick off today and that includes Real Madrid and Barcelona. I thought you were going to do us and i can tell you a lot of Liverpool fans felt that way. I think the worst thing that could of happened to you was our defeat at Watford last week as it was a major kick up the hoop for Liverpool so they needed that result today. In hindsight i think it could be a kick up the ring piece for yourselves and i hope Leicester can respond because in an age of football fat cats throwing money at the problem Leicester are sat at the top sticking up two fingers at the big boys. So keep on dreaming as winning the holy grail is not beyond your ability. Good luck Leicester city! Dare to dream.
waylander Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Most passion I've seen in a Liverpool side since Gerard left. Well done to them we were out leicestered . Pick ourselves up and give man city a moon after a win in Claudio we trust #fearless he he
foxfanazer Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 I know our success so far has been down to fast counter attacking play and it's fantastic to watch but sometimes we need another string to our bow. We were giving Liverpool the ball back far too often yesterday and eventually they punished us. Maybe it was the absence of DD but the defenders were also guilty of hasty clearances
Lcfc Jordan Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 What's everyone's thoughts on Huth thought he was extremely poor yesterday
foxfanazer Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 What's everyone's thoughts on Huth thought he was extremely poor yesterdayDon't think he's been as good this season for us as he was on loan last season tbh. Wes has been the rock
lgfualol Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 He's been alright, just a bit slow and enjoys a stupid foul.
Babylon Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 What's everyone's thoughts on Huth thought he was extremely poor yesterday Didn't do a huge amount wrong, a few issues but we restricted them to only a handful of shots on target.
Lcfc Jordan Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 I just feel it's everyone out ball, knocking it over his head and they know he will either knock it out of play or there forward will get onto it,he really is a walking yellow card aswell
Dr The Singh Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Losing has made alot of people over critical. The defeat was comming, we looked lathergic against Everton, and didn't play our best. Liverpool uppted the tempo, and we couldn't respond. CR needs to freshen things abit or give key people a rest imo

Matt Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 What's everyone's thoughts on Huth thought he was extremely poor yesterday He's not the player he was last season, no where near. That said although I really like Wasyl, but Huth is still better, could probably do with strengthening in that position, let's be honest we could do with strengthening is all positions, not neccesserily starters but certainly as back up.
Father Ted Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Not read through the whole thread but not sure if anybody has mentioned how poor the ref was. Not saying the outcome would have been different but he missed a stonewall penalty on Okazaki in the first half (which didn't even get shown on Match of the day!) and gave them multiple little decisions which affected the general flow of the game. Can't take anything away from Liverpool though but I feel that things might have been a bit different had Vardy been fully fit and Drinkwater starting instead of King. Ranieri should have switched things up a lot early also, we were crying out for a couple of subs, even possibly at half time but it wasn't until about 71 minutes I think that he finally changed it and even then Ulloa was up top on his own!
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 27 December 2015 Posted 27 December 2015 Today shows why we won't win the league. Vardy apparently played with a virus and wasn't anywhere near 100% This shows our lack of strength in depth up front. Ulloa and Oza are not good enough to score enough goals if Vardy is not on his game. I think it's imperative (if we won't to win the league) that we get another top striker at the club. I'm afraid neither Ulloa, Shinji nor Kram will score us anywhere near the goals Vardy does, or play like he plays. A team really having title aspirations would today have rested Vardy and brought in someone nearly as good. Agreed 100%. Today an off day for the team as a whole, and Liverpool gave us a taste of our own medicine. I am certain that to stay in the top 6, we need an additional pacy goalscorer to at least replace Vards when he's injured or unwell. He's clearly not been right for weeks. I assume CR sees that the other three options we have are not going to do it, and that's why he's persisted with JV despite his problems. Reinforcements urgently required to keep the show on the road. We will not win many games without Vardy or a viable replacement which none of Ulloa, Oka or Krama are.
