Marcin Wasilewski - The Man, The Beast, The Legend

I was having quite a funny conversation with my old man on the way back from Liverpool on boxing day about players we had completely forgot played for Leicester all sorts of duffers came up like Danny Cadamarteri and Kishishev and it occurred to me that we are going through such a great period in our history with so many memorable players that this is in danger of happening to players whose contributions deserve to be remembered. Players like big Was.

Was was originally Signed in 13/14 and helped the record breaking team to the Championship title by starting 27 games, we won 18 of them. In our first season in the Prem he played in 8 of the final 9 games which saw us pull of the 'greatest' of 'great escapes'. With his heroic performances often being overlooked due to the arrival and form of big Huth.

He is now 35 and due to Claudio changing back to a 4 at the back he has found his opportunities limited and I was a bit disappointed that after getting his chance at Everton due to a Huth suspension, and taking it with both hands with a towering performance in a famous win he found himself back on the bench for the following game, but then I thought to come in and play like that after not featuring all season tells you everything you need to know about the blokes professionalism, character and class and you can be sure that if we need him again this season he will be just as dependable.

Anyway I will be very surprised if this isn't his last season and I just thought I'd post this as it does sometimes feel like he has been overlooked slightly and there have been very few players who have contributed as much this big Polish slab of granite to our success in recent years.

I hope he will be remembered for his solid performances, his utter dedication, his flying elbows and..... this tackle

If we do get to see him again this season enjoy him while you can because he has been one of the best (well top 10) and most underrated CB's I've seen in my 25 years following city.

He's so good for us. What a signing he has been

Agree if he's no longer part of the squad next season I hope he sticks around and does his coaching badges with us.

I feared the worst when he signed. Was sure he would be a liability with his elbows and all-round juggernaut style or even that he would be left for dead by most strikers. How wrong was I! Extremely unlucky not to be playing regularly, but I suppose with our weakness defending set pieces, it's too risky with him frequently fouling players in striking vicinity of our goal.

I've not given up on his playing for us some more and would absolutely welcome his becoming part of our coaching staff when the time comes.

The bloke is immense and an inspiration to everyone.

Deceptively quick for his age too! Considering his horrific leg break for Anderlecht (I believe?), for him to come back and be considered a very good centre half shows character too (As one Brendan Rodgers would say)

Love the guy

Those 'crab' tackles are amazing. For a split second each time he does it I think that he'll absolutely annihilate a player but he gets the ball fair and square.

He's a tank. I haven't seen a player like him before at Leicester.

Absolute animal, love the bloke. Now immortalised with his own flag at the back of the Kop. :)

Saw that at the Bournemouth game, awesome flag.

You can see why the Anderlecht love him so much.

Love the guy. Totally understand why Anderlecht fans still follow him.

People are often too quick to label players as 'legends', but for me Wasyl is very close. What I like so much about him is his professionalism. If memory serves me right a couple of seasons ago we were playing Yeovil in the championship and I think NP subbed him as were were losing. He sprinted off the pitch like a spring lamb, no sulks, no dramas. I also remember him jumping up from the subs bench to get a loose ball so we could get on with the match quickly. When he comes into the side he never lets us down. He gives 100%, he has a lot more skill than either Huth or Morgan and is deceptively quick.

Whenever CR announces the side, I know if Wasyl is picked he'll do his absolute best, and I'm sure any opposition striker knows he's been in a game.

I really hope he stays with us after he retires. I think he'd make a good manager too.

Absolutely love the bloke.

You can see why the Anderlecht fans follow him everywhere.

Absolute hero, the kind of player every club needs.

Absolutely love the guy, easily has another couple of years in him, hope he stays as he's more than good enough cover and was unlucky not to keep his place instead of Huth following his performance.

Wasyl makes facing him off on a full-sized pitch, 11 v 11 with referees, in front of tens of thousands of fans as frightening as it would be to meet him one on one in a dark back alley.

One of the last of a dying breed. A defender that you are sh*t scared of. To me he is exactly how a defender should be, but unfortunately I think we won't see many more

I love Was. Quality, underrated defender whose role in the team has been an integral part of where we are today.

Wonder if a Leicester badge will go on his other calf. lol

That's the dream! Pole in, Pole out Rah Rah Rah!
