Have YOU missed a penalty?

Cmon guys fess up.

I missed one in my second year of senior football, I was about 17 playing in a cup game and it came down to penalties. As a kid playing junior stuff i had taken plenty, never missed, never saved...penatlies were a doddle..... but suddenly... this was serious, we were away to a good side and i think it was maybe the last 16. The game finished in a draw after extra time and went straight to penalties.

The first five from both sides scored... i was down at 7.... their 6 scored... our 6 scored... my turn, easy as you like, just like all the other ones, placed the ball, walked back and ran in... fool the keeper, sway the shoulders so he thinks its going in the the bottom left, but hahah, bad luck keeper, it might look like its going there, but im really going to put it in the top right... champion!

Of course the mrs was taking a picture of this epic moment (i was a CB/sweeper and didnt score many in the seniors) so she took the photo perfectly and now i can go back anytime i want and see myself leaning wayyy to far back and the ball just beginning to skyrocket over the bar.. a lonnnng way over the bar... fvck it!

On the good side, their next player missed and it went on until  we got down to the keepers taking them.. our keeper toe poked it in against theirs who then scuffed it into his hands... and we went through :)

I didnt take another competitive penalty for many years, but ended up in the declining years being the designated taker and put every single one in the bottom left corner and never missed again.

Never missed (or taken) one myself, but my final year of youth football (U18s), my team got through to the final of the area League Cup and it was held a St Marys in Southampton. Pretty much the whole game I was so worried about the game going to extra time and penalties (bearing in mind I was an 'industrial' centre half and would probably be 11th in line to take a pen behind even the goalkeeper). Luckily for me we were 2-1 down with 10 mins to go and I was sacrificed so we could throw an extra striker on and was ended up losing 4-1.

But yeah, even in that setting with 150 or so people watching, even the thought of taking one scared the sh*t out of me. I was really pissed off at Riyad on Saturday but it's no where near as easy as he makes it out to be most of the time.

I'm a keeper and in my time have had the chance to take two penalties.

Missed both, however managed to convert on the rebound for one lol

yep missed 3 out of about 20 taken, missed two in one game, one the keeper saved it ref made me take it again, missed the retake as well I think the ball may still be in orbit it was a bad miss. Its easy done even at Sunday league level is a scary situation to be in nice feeling when you do score though!

Blasted the decisive pen over the stand in a shoot-out after a charity match at Layer Road once.

It was the stand opposite the away terrace for anyone interested.

I missed one twice in a Sunday League game years ago. The first one hit the bar but the referee ordered a re take as there had been encroachment by defenders. I stepped up again and the second one was saved by the keeper.

Also, even further back in history when I was playing a cup game at college, we were 2-2 in the last minute when I was brought down in the area. I stepped up to take the penalty and the keeper saved. They immediately broke (a la Watford many years later) but I went even one better than Knockaert and in my haste to make up for my penalty miss I went to clear the incoming cross and spooned it straight past my own keeper to hand them a 3-2 win.

I only took one other penalty in my "career", which I scored.

I actually missed one in a Foxestalk vs Talking Balls game lol

My 5 a side record is very good though, although I do remember taking one whilst rather drunk and nearly hitting the side wall.

Semi final of the in-school cup goes to penalties (might even have been the final but I can't be sure).  It's sudden death and we've gone all the way down to the goalkeepers.  The other goalie scores heaping all the pressure on me to do the same.  I step up, take my run up and drill the sweetest of drives hard and low to the keeper's right.  Having shifted his weight the wrong way he's left off balance, rooted to his spot and can only watch helplessly as the ball slams squarely into the upright and bounces harmlessly away.  Devastation.

I only ever really took penalties in training and I was fairly accurate. I would of taken one of the peno's in one of the cup matches we had, it went to a penalty shootouts. However, as I was a sub who just came on just before the final whistle I was not allowed take one. We won the shootout though.

yep. can't remember the tournament or the situation (i.e. to win or first or second penalty). But it was pretty much the mirror equivalent of Mahrez's vs Villa (right foot and to the keeper's left). Perhaps just a little lower. Intention was obviously to get it bottom right corner but didn't hit it cleanly.

I do remember we still won though.

I've never taken one. But I once stopped one in the final minute of a game in high school to preserve a draw for my team. It's OK, Riyad: sometimes you can't fault the shooter and you've just got to tip your cap to the goalkeeper. ;)

I was once considered to be the official penalty taker for the team I played for. It was between me and another guy. Can't remember who was chosen for it now.

Missed one playing in a play off semi final in Cardiff in 2010. Hadn't really played that much that year as I'd recently changed clubs.

We'd lost the home leg by a goal through a dodgy freekick. Managed to get it back to 3-3 on aggregate by winning 3-2 in the away leg. My mate Andy scored who's Welsh so that was nice for him.

I was the fourth pen taker and the three before me had already scored.

Anyway, decided it would be a good idea to try and panenka the keeper, but it went horribly wrong.

Got shipped out the following Summer after no one from the club contacted me. It's all gravy though cos I scored against them the following season and got to shh the fans!

What a disgrace of a club treating you like that Steve, if I supported them I'd stop immediately.

Used to practice them at the end of every junior football training session

Every one used to take one and over a season I'm proud to say that I had a 100% record

Not quite so impressive when you know that I was the adult coach and the goalie would have been 11 and filled about 5% of the goal standing on his line

Worse than a full kit wanqa lol

Missed 2/2 in my career.

One I scuffed straight down the middle in a friendly. Literally caught it with my (ankle)

The second was not long after in a league game I smashed it so hard and low but keeper guessed right and got down quick enough. He even held onto it the cheeky git. Worldy sabe

Took em in schools football and for Loughborough United in the Midland League. Can't remember missing any but then I wouldn't want to. The headmaster at my school loved his football and had all kinds of ways to bribe us into concentrating.

He even declined to cane me one day so long as I scored for the school on the Saturday. It was the only time I scored six in one game and we had a laugh about it every time we met over the next 40 years or so until he died.

I was thinking about penalties in amateur football recently and remembering how few were given when I was a kid. I was nominated penalty taker and we didn't get one all season. Wonder what that says about honesty and diving in the professional game!

I only took one in a penalty shootout and scored it.

penalty shoot out in a tournament at junior level.

was confident and went for placement but the goalie saved it easily.

made up for it later in another shoot out, top right hand corner, goalie made the dive of his life but still couldnt reach it.
