The over rated thread.

"Shit like that" - I've argued that I believe someone will have included lyrics on a record before the Beatles, even if it is true, it's hardly something musically influential.

Elvis, Ramones, Black Sabbath, Sugarhill Gang, whatever dickhead made the first all-synth record - these are people who helped shaped/form genres which spawned sub-genres and so-on. Without these, rock, punk, metal, rap, electronic would be very different / possibly non-existent. There was pop before and after the Beatles - the Beatles popularised boy bands and spawned Mersey-beat copycats (which all died a quick death) and had a hand in indie, hardly any of which gained any sort of popularity outside the UK

You should really have a read about music and the history of music. Maybe even start with a basic wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_impact_of_the_Beatles because you're picking and choosing and this is turning into contradiction rather than a debate.

I must add people speak of the Beach Boys as overrated and Noel Gallagher once said people only like them because Paul McCartney did/does but they were influential and while I only have their greatest hits I really do like some of their singles.

I have calmed down since earlier today and spoken to JJR privately it's all sound, was nothing personal anyway and I like a good debate...

Agree with London above. Going to be biased here because I used to live in Manchester but I always found Manchester better as a City. And Liverpool. And York.

ive only ever been to london twice but the idea of it doesn't tempt me. don't think i'd enjoy it much to visit or to live in. i like it up north where everyone's friendly and everything's at most a ten minute drive away.

Which bit wound you up? You've just listed a bunch of things you've read about the Beatles, not arguments to how the Beatles are the most influential things ever. I countered.

But, and I am guessing here, you are not a massive fan of the Beatles and your responses come from someone not knowing much about the Beatles.

It is the music equivalent of plastic Man Utd fans passing comment on Leicester.

I am not a massive Beatles fan, but when someone is you've got respect their knowledge is greater than yours, the Beatles did a huge amount for changing music of that era, in a way we will never understand as we weren't around then (unless you are a lot older than I thought). Unlike Fox92 we haven't wasted spent a huge amount of time listening too reading about and researching them.

I am 29, no idea what age I come across!

Have agreed with Fox911 to not make anymore of the Beatles debate - although I admit I am probably ill-informed on the matter

Overrated:

Sweet potatoes, in any form

Subway sandwiches (which I do enjoy somewhat)

Bagels.

Father Ted.

Anchorman.

Farrow and Ball paint.

Adele.

Feel free to add some more.

I'm with you on 1 and 3, definitely.

That said, this whole overrating thing is a bit flawed isn't it, because if someone gets something out of something that you don't, then they might genuinely think it's brilliant and you can't really tell them that they don't, if you see what I mean.

Glad I've sorted that out.

You can thank me later
