Edit: I'm ****ed if I know how to make it smaller!

Just think about an ugly fat old bag who smells of rotting fish ....     always works for me.

Hey Aleksz, I can't say I "dislike" anything in it but if I was redesigning LCFC badge I would start from the fox. That "foxy" orange colour seems obligatory imo, because otherwise people won't tell its a fox (you can't tell that from the old badge unfortunately), but you could experiment with a silhouette of fox, see how that pans out. As it is a school project not any kind of rebranding orchestrated by club/owners, you can be free as you like. Also look for the link with a city, perhaps some other than cinquefoil (which was an ingenious idea of the original designer). King Richard III maybe, or some landmark, I don't know.

You've chosen quite a task for yourself. I'd rather redesign Bournemouth badge (from scratch) or Derby one, would be easier as they are nowhere near as good. Leicester's is one of the best badges in Premier League imo - instantly recognizable, hard to confuse it with any other. It doesn't seem to warrant any redesigning to me. Having said that, good luck mate! You could post a link to your project when it's finished :)

EDIT: Len Finsbury's 'back to the roots' direction is another one you could consider

I Love anything Leicester City as do we all and I would love to see your design/s. Although I wouldnt want to change it to se your work would be great.

My Joke badge would be one with Mark Lawrences ugly mug with TWAT underneath and "How wrong was I" on the top. For one match only mind..........

Just as an exercise, I like the idea of the above fox & crop shield with the Leicester City FC on it, replace the "LCFC" with "1884", and switch the actual fox and crop with the cinquefoil and current fox's head.

Personally wouldn't change it, but for the sake of your art project here is my hypothetical advice, because it's no use all of us saying we love the badge.

I would suggest you do something completely different, e.g. different shape, different words, a different image and a different balance of colour.

Incorporate something historic like an acknowledgement of us previously being Fosse or by using something from an old badge which maintains who we are in someway.

I'm interested to see what you come up with mate.

Thanks for your suggestions. So far during research I've been reluctant to changing it too much, but at the same time i don't want people looking at the final design saying "you've not really changed a lot"

Not that i'd ever want  change but if we had to i'd want a) reference to at least one of our previous badges and b) simplicity.

Noted  Cheers!

You know it

I could have guessed these would steal my thunder   :P

Our badge is lovely but the version that was released in 1992 was the best.

If we were to change the badge massively (and I hope we never do) I'd like to see the Fox & Crop involved again.

The more i see Fox and Crop come up as a suggestion the more I want to go down that route!  :sweating:

I'm laughing at some of the responses on here. You know he hasn't actually been commissioned to redesign the badge right? This is only a project.

Personally, as I've got older, I've become a lover of more traditional things so if we had to redesign the badge, I'd go for an older design and just freshen it up. The old shield badge like this would be a great start but I'd incorporate 1884 instead of the LCFC across the top.

Haha! I tried to make it obvious it was a fictional project... Commissioned?! I wish  Cheers for the advice!

Thanks for this great post and advice. I had considered going for another club and like you my mates/lecturers thought i was taking on a huge task choosing my own club, but hey i like a challenge. I agree in regards to the colours of the fox, that was something i had thought about!

Cheers, ill give this idea a go too.  ;)

The cinquefoil is vital to any LCFC badge. It's a proper ancient symbol of our city unlike other recent inventions like the white rose of Yorkshire.

We should use this more widely on banners, flags and t-shirts etc.

Edit to add the link.... http://onlyinleicester.blogspot.co.uk/2010/05/cinquefoil-rediscovering-leicesters.html

Its funny you should say that, because my original thoughts we're to abandon the cinquefoil. I didn't know much about it other than spotting it was pretty much on every "Leicester" logo e.g Council, University. Will keep that in mind

Agree with Spudulike on the cinquefoil. It's great to have an addition on our badge which is a very unique sign of Leicester and I think the emblem would look superb on flags etc. At first I didn't realise the cinquefoil on our badge was actually linked to Leicester, but great to know it is. I've seen the likes of Leeds Utd for example having a similar cinquefoil on their badge and I think it looks fantastic on football badges in general, shows a part of heritage.

So in response to the original question on rebranding of the badge, the cinquefoil is very important for me, as well as including the year the club was established on the badge. Only my preferences, however whatever you come up with, the very best of luck with your project.

Steer clear of the running fox logo.

It looked like the fox was running away and its use coincided with a pretty underwhelming period of our history.

As a hypothetical scenario, maybe as a one off season with a commemorative badge to celebrate an anniversary or a success I would like to see a return of the fox and crop, or a reworking of that badge (for an anniversary badge with a retro kit)  or a tweaking of the current badge to incorporate a star to represent a league win or something (as if that would ever happen) but in a hypothetical scenario, maybe replacing the cinquefoil with a star could be okay.

To completely rework the badge it would have to look awesome and carry some meaning and not be a shameless branding exercise, so no #fearless or any other bullshit.

You could even incorporate the 2 badges, so the fox and crop shield with the fox head from the current badge.

I don't know how people would feel if they tried to incorporate Buddhist designs and symbols into the badge and branding, as a hypothetical branding exercise it could be an interesting project, but in reality it would be greeted with a lot resistance.

Yes, bring back the crop!

something like this, but with 1884 around it.

Hi all,

I'm about to start my final project of a Graphic Design course at university, in which I'm basing on our club! Im taking on the sensitive and challenging project of rebranding the club with a new badge before rolling it out to a new website, programme and promotional material.

As fans, i'd like to think that we'd be consulted by the club on what we'd like to see if that was to ever happen, so i thought it would be a good idea for the research area of my fictional project to do the same.

What do you dislike about the club badge currently? Or do you think its way too sensitive and traditional to change? Or maybe you feel things do need freshening up?

I don't know, but I look forward to seeing your feedback, it will be a huge help!

As a fellow graphic design student, I'm excited what you're going to produce. Please keep us up to date :)

I'd look at the flag of Leicestershire and see if you can encorporate any of those elements into the current badge but at the same time, stripping back the colours (convert fill to stroke/outlines if that makes sense). Or look at bringing back elements of our older crests into the present one? For research, I'd look at how other football clubs have approached their badges. Are you rebranding it due to our current success of this season?

Also, how come you're starting a project now? My final assessment is in six weeks lol

The badge is only the circle, fox and cinquefoil. If you leave the cinquefoil, you've got to somehow jazz up the circle or fox, if you're going for vaguely the same design.

The cinquefoil has come to represent the city, originating from Beaumount, and celebrating his proud achievements with William the Conquerer, and later successful establishment of Leicester as a thriving Norman stronghold.

Or you could argue mindlessly plastering a dead Norman's coat of arms around the city, and in the badge, is lazy and uninspiring, and merely represents that if you're mates with someone in charge, and you're not shight, you may get given a city.

This is exactly why I don't like the cinquefoil. It is lazy and uninspiring. Leicester is actually pretty old in UK terms and has been around much longer than the Normans...

Maybe the phrase" Chat Shit Get Banged" incorporated somewhere?

 Maybe not!

Anyone know what " chat shit get banged" is in latin ?

According to Google translate.............

Or another translation site gave........

Some less than pukka Latin here, I would suggest.

My best effort is "verba foeda non pronuntia, ne vapulares"

By all means improve on this, though....

If you have the chance to re-design the current one; do that, it'll take done doing to beat that one.

Bearing in mind I'm a sh!t artist and have no design graphics background, I did a two minute sketch whilst I had a free minute.

Feel free to sneer/criticise it but it's the best I could do in my extremely limited ability lol

Tbf could do with changing, even when I point out "but there's no white on the chin or ears" people struggle to accept it after questioning the legitimacy of my support upon seeing my childhood City beanie bear sitting proudly on the back shelf of my car.
