davieG Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Traditional' big sides benefit from being on TV more often Simon Rice @simonrice Leicester City celebrate with the Premier League trophy Getty Leicester City will receive less prize money than four other Premier League sides, despite finishing the season 10 points clear at the top of the table as champions. Arsenal, who leapfrogged rivals Tottenham to finish the season second in the league, are the highest earners thanks to being shown on TV more than any other side. The Gunners will receive £101m from the TV deal this season while Claudio Ranieri's Leicester side will take £93.3m despite their stunning campaign producing arguably the most fascinating season in English football history. Every Premier League side takes a flat £55m from the TV deal which is then boosted by merit payments for where they finish in the league plus money for every time they've been appeared on either BT Sport or Sky Sports. Each league position is worth £1,236,083, meaning Leicester collected £25m for winning the title with Arsenal scooping £23.7m. Arsenal however were screened live a staggering 27 times to boost their income by £21.8m to take their total earnings to £101m.Every time a club is shown on TV they receive £750,000 plus a small additional revenue for being shown on Match of the Day. Leicester appeared on screen 15 times over the course of the season, providing them with £12.8m to take their total earnings to £93.3m. In addition to Arsenal receiving more prize money than Leicester, Manchester City (£96.8m), Tottenham (£95m) and Manchester United (£96.3m) will also collect more. Prize money league... 1. Arsenal - £101m 2. Manchester City - £96.8m 3. Manchester United - £96.3m (if they finish fifth by either drawing or beating Bournemouth on Tuesday) 4. Tottenham - £95m 5. Leicester - £93m 6. Liverpool - £90.4m 7. Chelsea - £87.1m 8. West Ham - £85.6m 9. Southampton - £84.5m 10. Everton - £82.9m 11. Stoke City - £79m 12. Swansea City - £75.3m 13. Watford - £74.1m 14. West Brom - £73m 15. Newcastle United - £72.7m 16. Crystal Palace - £72.4m 17. Sunderland - £71.7m 18. Bournemouth - £70.4m (if they remain 16th by losing to Manchester United) 19. Norwich City - £66.7m 20. Aston Villa - £66.2m
whoareyaaa Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 70m to Bournemouth, probably worth investing in a new stadium staggering amount of money for a club that size
MC Prussian Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Well, the difference is minimal when you consider that we'll profit hugely from the six Champions League group stage matches (or the Europa League, if we should finish third in our CL group) and the qualification bonus presented by UEFA.
FoyleFox Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 But we do get a very nice trophy which will have Leicester City Premier League Champions 2015/16. FOREVER. Ask Arsenal or Spurs if they'd swap the extra ££, I suspect not.....
Gerard Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 The title means more than any amount of money. Obviously but that's not the point of the article. I'm surprised we only got £20m more than relegated Newcastle for our exploits this season, I thought it would be about £40m.
Fox92 Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Pointless article/thread. A league title is worth much more. BBC ran an article about two weeks back with the title 'Leicester would be better off finishing second'. There's much more to football than money ffs.

BBC ran an article about two weeks back with the title 'Leicester would be better off finishing second'. There's much more to football than money ffs. Most articles about football are pointless and yes there is more to football than money but that doesn't negate the point that the team that finished 1st by a country mile with be rewarded less than others purely because the media companies pander to the elite 4/5. A point further validated by how often games between this teams are boring..
Soar Fox Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 We'll be on Sky & BT a lot more next season. Plenty of Sunday games next year unfortunately.
shade Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 I'd rather make a few million less and have more saturday 3pm games please.
Webbo Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Are the people moaning about us getting less TV money the same who moan when Sky move one of our games? (Tbf nobody has really moaned)
wattolcfc Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Id be pissed if I was an Arsenal season ticket holder paying £1000+ for a ST when 27 of their 38 games were shown on TV.... SCANDELOUS!
Footballwipe Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 We'll be on Sky & BT a lot more next season. Plenty of Sunday games next year unfortunately. Bingo. Expect Sky & BT to top-load us during the first three months of the season. That way if we aren't as good they can quietly drop us, but they won't make the mistake of ignoring us like they did from August-February. They'll have a few more games next season too (including Friday nights.) Worth noting that the max a team can be picked during a season is 28 (I think the new deal is the same) so it shows Arsenal were pretty much maxed out on matches. I suspect we'll be shown between 15-20 times next season. Champions ALWAYS get shown live on the opening weekend so don't book anything over that weekend. It will be either a Sunday or Monday night. It's also unlikely our games will be on a Saturday (or that bloody Friday night slot) on the weekends preceding UCL rounds. We won't know the days/fixtures until after the fixtures for Aug-October are done, so for the first 3/4 rounds they'll just ignore us or schedule us on the Saturday slots just in case our matches fall on Tuesdays.
psychonaut Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Is it next year when the TV revenue increases massively then? Something like a 70% increase with over 5 billion quid being shared out. Seems to be very similar to last season.
foxy boxing Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 spuds will be chanting we won two mill more than you, we won two mil more than you
Wymsey Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Villa £66m... Feel happy for Bournemouth. They've done great.
Sionnach gorm Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 It is television revenue not prize money that the four are getting more of. Leicester is still getting more prize money. Oh well!
fazzyfox Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 We'll recoup the difference when our DVD comes out, it has genuine worldwide appeal, if marketed properly it should outsell all other clubs releases ten times over!
Foxxed Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 So you gain more money if Sky/BT pay to televise your game. And we weren't show as much, only being considered 2/3rds through the season. Scandalous...
Wymsey Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 In all honestly the main firm that benefits the most is Sky/BT. Sadly, football has and is still becoming too commercialized.
GloverFox Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 ... Leicester City name forever on the trophy ... Priceless!
fuchsntf Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Forgetting the media dish out of TV-companies. What do the PL give out for the finishing positions. Or cant it he seperated...???
Webbo Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Forgetting the media dish out of TV-companies. What do the PL give out for the finishing positions. Or cant it he seperated...??? This was before the final game.
ARM1968 Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 We will end up quids in and no mistake. Our story, our success wil be worth a mint if exploited properly, and I suspect it will. Frankly though it is much more important how we spend this money. Sensible investment is key.
