Col city fan Posted 22 September 2017 Share Posted 22 September 2017 I would assume that Shinji is a managers dream. He don't moan if he's not playing, gives everything every game, looks constantly happy and content with life at the club. For his age, is fit as a butchers dog, scores goals, links up play, gives us all a laff by falling on his arris. Brilliant signing. If there is a player in the disgusting modern age of Prem football who still epitomizes 'value for money', it's Shinji. I'll look back on his time at the club with NOTHING other than respect. It's fascinating how fans see players. There is a lot of banding about on here for Cambiasso as a 'club legend'. Personally, I see Okazaki as every bit as much a legend as Esteban. Without a doubt, in the same way as Cambiasso came to the fore in our great escape, so Shinji played a crucial role in us winning the league title. StriderHiryu Posted 22 September 2017 Share Posted 22 September 2017 Shinji is definitely a legend! I think the common feeling is that it's a position that could be improved in the team given the amount of goals and assists he gets, but he never gives less than 100% for the club every single game. That picture of him clutching the Premier League trophy on the team bus at the parade just sums up the man ha ha ha! The competition for places has also improved his game. In fact I think having Slimani, Ihenacho, Okazaki and Vardy all competing has improved many of those players. Slimani and Okazaki look much better and are among the goals. We might end up with a situation where we buy a new player and don't play him, but end up doing better because existing players improve due to competition for places. You only have to watch this to see how the opposition gives up possession when they have Okazaki running in on them. He makes them panic and this is crucial in how we've come to have success over recent years. This is what you don't get from your big lumps up front, like Leo. The opposition have all the time in the world to play it out from the back.
Koke Posted 22 September 2017 Share Posted 22 September 2017 If only Okaxaki had 10-15% more technical ability he would be nailed on starter every week. His touch isn't great and goes missing a bit too often. But his work rate and commitment to the team is unrivalled, and we undoubtedly play better with him in the side. He would cost 40 millions and would play for Chelsea. He shines in the defensive phase when we don't have the ball, but in the offensive, against well organized opponents no, just no. His triangle play isn't great and he falls too often. It's one of the reasons that force us to over rely on Vardy/Mahrez/Gray to create something out of nothing. The defenders don't consider him as a threat.
Bazly Posted 22 September 2017 Share Posted 22 September 2017 I think Shakespeare has hit on the proper role for Oka by accident rather than design. He has had much more impact coming on as a sub rather than starting and being substituted after an hour. Our new super sub!

Against top 6 teams Okazaki is ideal to play but against bottom 8 teams where we need to take initiative we need more creativity and ball retention, he becomes a passamger. Wymsey Posted 22 September 2017 Share Posted 22 September 2017 After a somewhat shaky start to his career here, feel that he's at his peak now. He's less sloppy on the ball than he used to be and he's got more awareness than before. Possibly the team's most-underrated player imo.

Filberts lovechild Posted 22 September 2017 Share Posted 22 September 2017 Sat next to someone late last season & whole game he was just slating Okazaki for tumbling over a lot. Definitely a legend in my view, so much energy, his touches in matches don't often do justice to his overall play.

Legend, simples Both elbowing's were caught well by the camera's - strange how Sky never called for that to be scrutinized and the player crucified after the game. Sky (imo) seem to have enjoyed being party to bans on so many occasions....is it because they're still trying to curry favour with the Liverpool fans after the Hillsborough disaster to get them to buy their "sister" paper the Sun?
