Schlupp - West Brom

Two things. Manchester Unted took him on on loan which say much about his ability.

And just who would the let him goers replace him with.....Would be a steals for £9m

I fully understand the good natured mickey taking cos Schlupp's as random a footballer as you'll ever see. If he was a magician he'd conjure up a parrot instead of a dove.

But, for me, he's so under-rated and actually quite important to us at times. In another threat I've referred to identifying players who offer something other teams and other players have trouble coping with.

With Schlupp it's his blistering pace and the fact that no-one can guess what's coming next - including him.

I really hope he's been working on his shooting and crossing because if he ever starts getting one of those skills right he'll really put panic into defences.

As it is he still has the habit of doing enough worthwhile to make a difference both in attack or defence because, again, his pace offers cover quicker than most even if he's not that sophisticated as a defender.

The other thing is he's strong. And again, that can be important. Take the Spurs game when Chilwell played and gave a goal away. No, I'm not getting on at him because he played well and, hopefully, he'll have toughened up by now. But I don't believe Schlupp would have been muscled off the ball like that, not unless there was a penalty in it! :D

Love the parrot and dove simile.

And as you know, I agree with you. I think Schlupp has long been worth far more to the squad than many give him credit for. 9 million for a lad of his pace and strength and at his young age would be ridiculous business in the current climate.

Didn't they take him on trial?  Either way, he won't give up Champions league football for WBA.

Being an academy graduate he should be worth way more than that. I really really don't want him to go. Yes, there are more gifted players out there but they aren't our players. This club has an identity and a core group of players like no other. Think what Schlupp has been through with us... Play offs, Promotion, the great escape and then winning the league. I'd rather keep these theoretically worse players that we have watched grow, than sign some mercenary who couldn't care less about the club. Even if that were to mean more success

Maybe if we'd signed some class winger like Yarmolenko or Feghouli but why sell when we have no replacement? Norwich want about £20mill for Brady but we just let our Jeff go for £9mill. I'd have Schlupp over Brady any day

Why cos he's one of our own?

He offers pace and nothing else.

Let me sum up the whole Jeff Schlupp to west Brom situation:

Jeff Schlupp is a ****ing boss dont sell him, especially not to the baggies for a measly £9m

Id genuinely take Schlupp over Brady too. Well yes his pace and raw strengths are his main attributes but tactically he helps the team a lot. (Inadvertently) Watch whole games of us this season and you'll see when he plays he pushes teams deeper against us as they try to close up the space he can run in to. This creates more space for Mahrez Drinky etc. Also plays ridiculously wide (too wide sometimes) so the fullback has to come out further than he'd like to get tighter to him. This is different to Albrighton because the fullback doesn't come out as far as he knows Albrighton generally won't beat him for pace (hence why Albrighton usually has a bit more room to whip in crosses that other wingers might because a fullback will give himself the yard to tuck in more to the centre back guessing that Albrighton won't outpace them on the outside). In turn the gap between fullback and centre back widens which is how Vardy has thrived this season, darting in those sorts of areas.

Althoigh he hasn't played a vital role this year, he could be useful in the champions league next year simply because he drags us up the pitch. If we're under the cosh, he's the one lad on the pitch that can take the ball 20 yards forward to relieve pressure. What a donny

Agree with this. Schlupp always tries to beat his man, and often does. Players like this are invaluable

Jeff gives us another option. My thoughts go to Watford away when Albrighton was being over powered. On came Jeff (along with AK) and they didn't get a sniff second half. He ran at them and you could see they were, like a number of other team genuinely apprehensive of him. He's also great mates with a number of the players and is big part of the club.

There is no way we should even be considering letting Jeff go anywhere.

Without it becoming like a poll, I would have Schlupp over Brady in a heartbeat.

He can be infuriating at times but also a genuine game changer as his pace and strength absolutely terrifies the opposition.

He still has time to mature as a footballer and really find a position that's his own, and if he does then in a season or two in this financial climate you could be easily doubling that 9 million valuation.

schlupp has actually improved remarkably over the years since becoming a full back or wide midfield from switching from striker where he wasn't the finished article remember when he spent a while at manchester united which did not work out. i know a lot of people accuse him of not having a very good brain but he has had a great season with us. a part of me says nine million is a great deal for him but another says we shouldn't let any one else of the title winning side go

Exactly. I wouldn't even consider it if we were selling Jeff for £20m and buying Brady for £9m

it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say he is worth at least double that amount (if not far more actually) in today's football money climate

He may have little in the way of a footballing brain but he is an absolute pest for defenders to deal with. When Vardy was out vs Swansea he ran the show and completely terrified their back 4 helping us to a comfortable win under huge pressure. If he doesn't mind  not starting then there is no doubt we should keep him. 9m is laughable when Ibe just went for 15!

United also bought Nick Powell so ..... lol

But I agree with you mate - I think he is an important member of the first-team squad and I don't see who we would get off better quality for that price.

I like Jeff as his pace from the bench is something else.  Defenders will have to stay on guard with Musa, Vardy and Jeff across 90 mins.  If Claudio didn't think there was something he could work with he would have left him out in the cold like Inler.

The article yesterday in the Telegraph, the paper that broke the story, said that the club have turned down the offer and said he's not for sale.  It seems to have passed the forum by.  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/07/18/leicester-confident-riyad-mahrez-will-stay-but-would-ask-for-mor/
