eddylcfc Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Just wanted to get people's thoughts on who could possibly be candidates for next club captain. With Wes being in his early thirties it's not inconceivable to think in 2/3 years time he might call it a day. Personally would love the thought of DD striding out with the captains armband. Thoughts?
Soar Fox Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Kasper Schmeichel is vice-captain isn't he? Surely it would go to him.
AKCJ Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Drinkwater is the obvious one. Loved by the team and the fans and won't shut the **** up on the pitch.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Would have said Matty James was a shoe-in 2 years ago. Vardy would be ideal but he doesn't seem mature or responsible enough. I'd currently go with Fuchs but if he leaves, How about Kasper or Kingy?
st albans fox Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Would it be very ridiculous to think that our next captain doesn't yet play for us ?? unless Claudio is happy for his keeper to be captain in which case kasper ticks the boxes.

I'm not a fan of giving the keeper the captaincy. It needs to be an outfield player so he can talk between the ref and get between players if need be. Hard to do that when the play is 50 yards from you.
fuchsntf Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Unless there is an upward spiral on Morgans form, he wont get a regular place after this season. DD would be my choice, but does he now give us peek years, or move on. At present , with the knowledge we have on the players future, how many outfield players are Captain material. Fuchs...on the move apparently DD........yes Huth....Doesnt have more than 2 top seasons Schmeichel....yes , but I dont like GK captains. At present, Besides DD.. There is nobody in the present squad who stands out as a natural.!!! Now or in 2-3 seasons. The next captain, is not yet on the foxes books...unless 'Filbert' fances himself..
Izzy Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Kasper for me I suppose. I think he's a real leader of men and won't stand for anything below par. No issue a keeper as captain for me. I'm sure there are examples of successful keeper/captains from the past (Shilton/Buffon maybe?) At this level we should have captain material all over the pitch. Wes/Fuchs in defense, DD/Kingy in the middle & Vardy up front for example. I think maybe too much is made of the captaincy these days anyway. Just look how they toss the arm band around when being substituted.
StriderHiryu Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 I'd give it to Drinkwater as I think he has stepped up this season and shown he is Captain material. It might also stop him from leaving which is a real worry because I think Manchester United may well come knocking at the end of the season. If Schmeichel got it I'd also be happy. He is always really vocal, seems to love the club and always claps off the fans after every game. Small touch but I really appreciate it.
Foxxed Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Kasper, Drinky, Vardy. Fuchs if he weren't retiring. I'm assuming Huth and Morgan will retire at the same time. Benny was captain in some u23 game I think a while back!
DB11 Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Drinkwater. Might be the incentive to stay if he keeps up his current form for a few more years!!
m4DD0gg Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Fuchs is here for another season, i thought he signed a 3 year deal?
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 I'd be looking at Drinkwater, Simpson or Schmeichel.
sdb Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 DD no doubt. Most consistent player, guaranteed starter, dictates games and we need him to stay. No one else comes close really, due to age, position, guaranteed starts.
dylanlegend Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Judging by this season and Morgan's form, we'll probably need a new captain at the end of this season! Gotta be Drinky

Charl91 Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Depends who is here, but easily Kasper or Drinkwater.

As long as you still have players that act like leaders on the field (something that helped us so much last year) it wouldn't matter in the slightest. I would go with either Kasper or Drinky

RoyFox Posted 20 October 2016 Posted 20 October 2016 Drinkwater all the way, our most consistent player this season, leads by example and very vocal.
