It all adds to the conclusion made by the ref, if the ref thinks vary has lunged in and caught the man (Because he's laying on the floor holding his ankle) He obviously takes that into account that he's been caught in a lunge. If the player had not gone to ground or showed any sense that he'd been contacted it probably would have been different.
