boots60 Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 Yep, once again we are on the wrong side of that wonderful organisation called FIFA. Absolutely scandalous that all 4 home nations have received fines for the crime of wearing a remembrance symbol. FIFAs excuse - "In the stadium and on the pitch, there is only room for sport, nothing else." How these feckers keep getting away with whatever they want to do is beyond me. Modern football administration is rubbish. Link - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38368144
DB11 Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 England have been fined 45,000 Swiss francs (£35,311), Scotland and Wales 20,000 Sfr (£15,694) and Northern Ireland 15,000 Sfr (£11,770). Hang on a minute, why the difference in amounts?
Captain... Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 They knew they would get fined, they did it anyway. Fair play to the home nations and they should accept the fine with pride knowing they did the right thing. It would at least be a half decent gesture by FIFA to donate the fines to charity.

Hang on a minute, why the difference in amounts? We were the worst offenders? We were at home and made a big show of remembrance day, wore poppy's on the arm bands, the whole shebang. Scotland just turned up with Poppys on shirts. The Welsh/Irish actually obeyed the rules but got done for their pre match minutes silence and people wearing them in the crowd. Anyway, peanuts to the FA, it's a shame that money could go somewhere far more deserving than FIFA but I'm glad we took a stand and continue to do so if we are playing on Nov 11th or remembrance Sunday.
Fox92 Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 We knew they'd be fines but still did it so fair play to all. We actually did something we weren't supposed to!
yorkie1999 Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 There wouldn't be a fifa if it wasn't for what the poppy stood for.
foxy boxing Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 FIFA are a joke, there are more priorities surely than fining nations for showing their support for our war dead.the only thing fifa cares about is money. they are pure greed

foxes_rule1978 Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 You get fined for wearing a poppy these days wth...
AKCJ Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 I know people are quick to get outraged but would it really have mattered if the teams didn't wear them? FIFA are hypocritical pricks with their excuse but at they did say that we'd get fines for doing it.

It wouldn't have made any difference really, but the home nations wanted to make that tribute and should accept the consequences as they were well known at the time.
Tuna Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 The FA should turn up at FIFA HQ and pay their pathetic fine in 5 pence pieces in those little plastic bags the bank give you. And then pay double the fined amount to the British Legion as a statement.
urban.spaceman Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 Pay the fines and then announce that you're donating double that amount to the Poppy Appeal and Help for Heroes. FIFA has never been more wrong about something.

Guest Col city fan Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 FIFA can shove their fine up their corrupt little asses. Well done to the FA (not often I say that...) and the players for taking a stand.
MC Prussian Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 Bit of a silly action by FIFA. Using a bit of commons sense, it could've been prevented. What remains is an unnecessary move fueled by some strange sense of political correctness. I've read somewhere today that wearing poppies has been labeled a "political statement". I'm sorry, but since when is remembering the fallen from some 70 or 100 years ago "political"? If at all, it's a powerful and worthy human gesture so we all remember what our ancestors had to go through to get here.

It's for all of the fallen now, and that can be considered fairly political. That being said, hopefully the FAs are getting the 2ps ready for FIFA as we speak!
fuchsntf Posted 19 December 2016 Posted 19 December 2016 Twats at FIFA wouldnt be free to make those stupid incompetent, useless descisions... If it werent for those that served and fell, in the name of theirs and many others freedom. So idiots can make such feeble descisions many a brave man and woman are now lying under those poppies.. Even if The home counties got banned, I wish the FAs would get together, and refuse to pay a penny. But our FAs are full of yes men..This to me thanks to my dad and uncles who served some fell in WWII, Korea, and grandfathers and thier brothers and sisters who served and some fell. That these twats can carry on being pig ignorant... Oh !!! Who the fuk started international football in the first place.. Please you home FA authorities who have their jobs in our name....Refuse to pay..!! And carry on doing it... The fans around UK can remember the odd fan who passes away,in peace time now go out on the terraces, create banners so our FA, understand we dont want them to pay a penny... Unless you yourself have lost the memory and respect to those that fell for our country. And make no mistake THANKGOD or who and whatever you trust and believe ....we bloody won it or each major bloody conflict. I do associate poppies with Remembrance Day and that one is meant to pay tribute to all the people who died in the war, regardless of which era. However, the symbol was introduced following WWI for the first time. So that's how it has stuck with me.
