Held ransom by a relegetion-threatened PL side, with whom we are in contention in a fight against the drop. lol

Imagine if we sign him and he turns out to have a worse influence than expected, we go down and Middlesbrough stay up.

I wouldn't advocate such a transfer at ll.

Or, he scores 10 goals and we comfortable stay up and Boro go down due to not replacing him..

Looking forward to haggling over price for a week and forgetting we need at least two defenders

100% going to happen - this will be confirmed half an hour after the deadline and then we will realise we still have the same shit defence for the next 6 months.

This will go through. They are getting Jese and we already know he wants to come so it'll be a case of who flinches first on the fee. We must focus our immediate attention to our disgusting defence. Ranieri might not be worried but I bloody am. I wouldn't trust John Chodkin to sort it for him. He needs to get on the blower himself to Inter Milan and get Ranocchia.

So we're looking to improve our inability to create and score from midfield by signing a creative midfielder who has scored two goals this season for a club who have scored 6 goals less than us.

Let's just hope Alaves don't get involved in this and we end up in a bidding war.

What is being said in the media and what is going on behind closed doors are very different things. Boro have targets in place we have targets in place the more we pay Boro the more they will pay for their targets, all a bit of cat and mouse. Looks like he wants to come and if we want him things will already be in place. Should also free up Mahrez so happy days.

It really tickles me when I see everyone getting mardy about us having 1st bids rejected. Thats how negation works you fools, I take these people have yet to buy a house or a second hand car. personally I would be a lot more concerned if we kept having 1st bids accepted.

Go down that road and you end up paying 5 and half million for Matt sodding Mills.

Boro are going to replace him with Jesé who is a proper winger (unlike Ramirez) and they won't go down anyway, thanks to their solid defensive work.

Its scoring goals that keep you up,didnt we get relegated in 2004 with one of the better defences in the league?

and less than 24 hours since he handed in a transfer request.

When did we first bid for him? And where are the defenders? Are we waiting for them to hand in transfer requests at the end of the window?

My guess would be we've offered exactly the same deal to them that we got for Schlupp. I think that was reported as something like £8/9m up front and £3/4m in extras. I think we're probably going to have to go another £3m up front to get him.

... then again, look at how we're faring this season...

If you continuously keep leaking goals and only occasionally come up with a fantastic display of football, scoring goals won't do.

Middlesbrough's overall package is pretty neat, they usually come across as a pretty compact and resilient unit.

Are you being serious? All 3 of our forwards got over double figures in the league and we still went down. Defensively we were horrific!! Haha

Maybe he's thinking about relegation from the championship, the defence wasn't too bad then.

That's far too simplistic. Boro don't have much quality up top whereas we do. I know it's not been great this season but the quality to our attackers has been awful so far, and if this signing changes that i think we will be fine. So often the first goal dictates the outcome, and we've leaked that too often, score first and our confidence will improve.
