sylofox Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Would you take tonight's back four. Amarty Benny Wasa and Chilly over our usual back four. Even if we go dawn I'd like to see that than Morgan and Huth.
STUHILL Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Benny I would drop Huth or Morgan for but I wouldn't start Wasilewski in the league. I thought he was decent tonight, especially with his passing out from the back, but I think he would struggle (and yes more so than Wes/Huth) with the quality and pace of Premier League attackers. I think people struggle with the idea of Amartey as RB, simply because it isn't his best natural position, but I thought he offered more in defence AND attack than Simpson has recently. Again, it may be because it was against a poor Derby side, but due to our starting back 4 being so bad recently, I would like to see us try - Amartey--Wes--Benny--Chilwell
TJB-fox Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Each game he plays it makes the decision to not have Chilwell as our starting left back every week more ludicrous. Not only is he a better asset and option youth wise than Fuchs but right this minute he is head and shoulders better! Class again tonight, really stood out I thought- defending and attacking. Really pleased
UPinCarolina Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Going forward, we must start Amartey and Chilwell. Benny needs to be bolted on for a bench spot, at least. Alternate resting Huth and Morgan for the rest of the season; so that we can keep them fresh.
foxfan92 Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 I actually think Simpson has done well defensively (most games) but loses possession with his frustrating hoof ball and hope, while I thought defensively Amartey didn't look comfortable at right back but his distribution from defence was 100 times better. 17 minutes ago, UPinCarolina said: Going forward, we must start Amartey and Chilwell. We need consistency once we find a back line we are happy with. We can't keep changing every week - players need to gel. Whether we're stronger with a different pairing at the back remains to be seen. Lack of confidence is playing a big role in the drop of form of Morgan and Huth. Last season they threw themselves about and somehow got in the way of goal each time. This season things they try don't work and they look clueless. However I'd say because we've been less effective at forcing teams to cross in from long range (something we did so well last season) the pair have found themselves busier than last season so inevitably they are being beat more often. Whoever we play we need to address some holes further up the pitch to stop teams running through us.
foxes21 Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 when the CL comes, we are going to have to rotate our back line. Simpson, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs cannot and should not play every game whilst we are still in the CL. These four will be well up for the CL which will be a backs to the wall job so it should suit their game. I'd start those four for the CL games, then for the PL: Amartey, Wague/Wasilewski, Benalouane, Chilwell. For our PL games, we need CB's comfortable on the ball (Wasilewski, Benalouane, Wague?) & fullbacks who can provide an attacking outlet (Amartey, Chilwell).
m4DD0gg Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 CR wont drop his captain, he may however drop Huth for Benny but i doubt it.
StanSP Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 i'd go with a mix Not been a fan of any of our defence but we do have to bear in mind that was a Championship strike-force last night. It'll be totally different in the league but if Ranieri is true to his word about giving the guys last night a chance then he has to stick by that. Chilwell definitely has to be starting more regularly than Fuchs. Amartey I wouldn't mind being played at CB or RB. He's in good form internationally at CB and seemed quite capable at RB last night. Really wouldn't mind if Benalouane came in in place of Huth to partner Morgan.
foxinsocks Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 I think it might have been better with was on the right and amarty and benny in the centre
Guest Col city fan Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Even if we go Dawn? And it's 'Hindsight' isn't it? You thick fooker...
Webbo Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 I think we have to remember that we were playing Derby's reserves. We shouldn't take too much from this. Benny might get a game on Sunday, I can't see anyone else getting the nod.

He's fine to drop the second highest scorer in the PL last year so what's holding him back from dropping capt' crappo... just can't figure this out. I hope he comes to his senses before the weekend.
filbertway Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Still think Amartey needs to be put in the centre. It was refreshing to see both full backs getting forwards though. I almost forgot that most football teams encourage that behaviour. When did this passing out from the back start? I know it definitely didn't first half, was it the second half when I wasn't paying much attention? I know we did it in extra time but that's definitely because half the Derby team needed defibs.

What did any of them do wrong. We never looked in danger. We played the ball out and didn't hoof it. None of the treated the ball like a hot potato. A vast vast improvement on our usual back four. Or are you down marking the for that deflected goal? I even think Run Rabbit had a great game. With a solid confident defence in front of him. Unlike them that judge him with a pile of sh1t in front ill judge him on last night.
lgfualol Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 I wouldn't be able to get my head around it if Chilwell didn't play on Sunday. Fuchs has been great since being here, but he has looked completely lost for a few weeks. Chilwell offers so much more energy, even in the 120th minute he was sprinting up and down the pitch. Not sure Fuchs has legs to attack and defend. But I can't believe we might play the same defence that has conceded about 20 this year.

zealot Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 I thought Benalouane, Chilwell and Amartey had great games last night. Morgan, Huth, Benalouane and Wasyl are pretty much identical defenders. All excellent headers of the ball and very very strong. Morgan is a better blocker and header than them all. Benalouane is by-far the most comfortable on the ball. Our problem is that Morgan, Huth and Wasyl have recently lost even more of their non-existent pace than they had to begin with. This for me means they get turned far to easily now in the Prem. Wasyl even got turned last night by the Derby second team. Amartey didn't get turned around all night and kept their winger on his wrong foot. Promising for the future but it's bound to be back to Simpson-Morgan-Huth-Fuchs at the weekend.
LCFC1996 Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 I wasn't sure about Wasyl but he got better as the game went on. I'd go with last nights back four, nice to have a defense that doesn't shit itself at the sight on the ball.
ZeGuy Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 Wasil should never start a PL game. I'm sorry, but that was "only" Derby and he gave me some cold sweat more than once. I appreciated the fact he did play the ball out properly (=not hoofing) but he's no match for the PL. Even by Morgan or Huth standards. Benny deserves a chance alongside with Amartey, who should be played as CB. Not convincing as RB. Chilwell is a no brainer on the left. Simpson has sadly no concurrence at this stage.

Harry - LCFC Posted 9 February 2017 Posted 9 February 2017 I think people are making too much of last night's performance. We were playing against a weakened Derby side, keeping them out with relative comfortable was a respectable, but not outstanding achievement. If our regular back four had been playing I think we'd have seen much the same outcome.
