Trouble in Madrid

Recommended Posts

Shame that innocent Leicester supporters took a beating because of a few ignorant cretins.

Going to another country where the police have a rep and singing cringe trash like 'German bombers' and 'Gibraltar is ours' whilst throwing litter / flares and pints about should earn you a good baton beating anyway - just for being such an embarrassment.

Let's round these brain-dead idiots up and stick them on a flight to Russia in 2018 and see how they get on then.

You are naive if you think the police suffered injuries. They look like robocop. Doesn't make our fans any better but the whole relationship between police and the court system is easy to corrupt.

In civil law, the Police ring around the judges and find out whose free within 48 hours. The Police appoint the judge themselves. It's why I'm certain nearly all of these arrests will lead to fines. Sentences mean open proceedings

3 officers injured according to the Spanish courts.

100 or so of our "fans" behave, very publicly, like animals and you'd rather believe the Spanish legal system is corrupt. Righto.

I'd love to see it. The Russians are properly organised, fight for sport - spend their time training, stone-cold sober.

Make the English sun-burnt, beer-bellied, arms in the air, chair-throwing crowd look like like the embarrassing idiots they are.

I was there in Sevilla when the local Seville paper and subsequent public report said that fans attacked police officers and injured them. Being that I saw it with my own eyes and actually what happened - they completely lied to validate their hard line behaviour.

I haven't defended our idiots in anyway. My issue is the level of policing handed out by Civil Guard on repeat occasion. This doesnt stop at Leicester City having a problem. It's been a problem for Lyon in Seville this season, Legia in Madrid, occasions before for Celtic in Vigo, Rangers in Osasuna, repeat repeat repeat.

To praise Atleti, they were very good in the ground with local stewards helping locating seats, those police on display with no

riot gear on and generally a more respectful nature than in the ground at Seville.

When under custody you are subject to no water, no edible food other than crackers, they leave lighting on to ensure no sleep. It borders on human rights abuse.

Leicester fan in 'wrong place' during Madrid police clash

A Leicester City fan has described how he was "in the wrong place at the wrong time" when he was arrested by Spanish police following trouble in Madrid.

Andy Rudkin, 27, from Oakham, Rutland, said he and his father saw scuffles with police unfold on Tuesday.

He said as they walked away they were charged by officers and his father was "whacked" with a baton.

The pair, along with six other men, have been handed four-month suspended prison sentences.

Mr Rudkin, who believes he was one of the men filmed by BBC correspondent Phil Mackie being arrested, said he was innocent of the public disorder offence he was charged with.

At one point he and his 49-year-old father were facing prison, he claimed.

The Leicester fan said when they arrived in Madrid on Tuesday ahead of their Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid, they had a meal but did not drink any alcohol.

He said: "We heard a noise in the square [Plaza Mayor] and went to have a look and saw police hitting fans, I'd never seen anything like it.

"We walked away and then 10 police officers charged us, I said to my dad 'we've got to run'.

"Dad got whacked with a baton. I went over to tell them he was my dad and I got arrested too."

He said he had never met any of the other arrested men before, one of which was a teacher and two were businessmen. He claims they were all held for about 47 hours without food and water.

Mr Rudkin said when he asked if he could make a phone call he was told to "shut up".

"My wife was going out of her mind," he said.

"I've been called scum online and we've been branded hooligans by other fans, but it's not true. I've never been in trouble in my life."

All eight men were given suspended prison sentences when they appeared in court on Thursday.

Leicester City are working with Uefa and the Spanish authorities to discover the "full facts" behind scuffles involving fans in Madrid.

I was sitting in the Plaza Mayor on Wednesday afternoon when it all kicked off.

The thing that has struck me on all five trips is that it feels like you're going on holiday with thousands of people from all different walks of life, who you would never spend a single second with at any other time, and you're kind of expected to just all get along.

It's different to domestic away games where everyone makes their own way there separately and don't go to the same places if they don't want to. For European away trips you're on the plane with all sorts and then all asked to gather in the same place when you get there. The number of families, older people and children at Porto, Sevilla and Madrid in particular has surprised me a bit. I doubt regular European teams (Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea etc) have anything like this cross-section of supporters attending their games abroad. Like everything that's happened to us over the past few years, it feels quite unique.

You often get disagreements between the rowdier elements of our support (of all ages) and the families at domestic away games, but throw in the all-day drinking and the temperatures and it doesn't seem a great idea to encourage our fans to all gather in the same place - not that this trouble stemmed from disagreements amongst our fans but once you know some people want to get paralytic and chuck stuff at police, this didn't seem the best way to prepare for it or deal with it.

When you're trying to get away from the trouble, the trickiest thing is that you're not quite sure what they want you to do. Where I was, they were chasing people down the two exits to the left and right at one stage and it was impossible to tell what we were supposed to do.

And not everyone knows this is how the Spanish police deal with stuff like this. I was stone cold sober but lots weren't and I could understand why some of our fans didn't just get the hell out of there straight away when the vast majority hadn't done anything wrong. Obviously once this lot get going then you have to just try and steer clear of them if you can.

Article on the BBC now from one of the guys arrested, interesting read. I'd like to see some of the people on here tarnishing everyone with the same brush telling that chap and his dad that they "got what they deserved" to their faces.

Believe everything you read in the media do you?

He's hardly going to go to the BBC and admit he did it, the fact he went to see what was happening put him in the situation, why go into it?

The minute those vans were being driven around on Wednesday we just walked straight out, there were plenty of exits, you could see one or two morons standing there arms held high as if to say come on then. They deserve all they got.

As for the litter @Munzie, the bins were tiny and have you ever been up to Jubilee square, high street before a home leg? It looks just the same, as soon as everyone leaves for the ground the cleaners are on it.

The ones to blame for this are not the plod, it's the morons throwing cans, bottles, smoke bombs at them.

Yet again I'll say it, I'm not making excuses for the dickheads. Winks could get a life ban and it wouldn't be long enough in my eyes, not least because his "boys" let flares off in ****ing daylight lol

Again, I'm just providing cited sources from *relatively* trustworthy sites that go against the "all Leicetser fans are scum" grain. Call the guy a liar if you want but I don't have a reason to disbelieve what he's said in that article.

The more I hear about it the more it's astounding anyone can defend this lot. Anyone defending the police is no Leicester fan to me. Where was this trouble in Belgium, Denmark, or most comparably, Portugal?

The common denominator is Spanish police. They are animals. Vile, vile animals. I genuinely would celebrate any death of theirs.

What an incredibly immature post.

You state'hear about it'.Was that because you were not in the square or not in Madrid.?

Where have I called him a liar?

BBC a trustworthy sitelol do me a favour, they announced last week one of their former DJ's had died when he hadn't amongst other cock ups they make.

So in your eyes letting flares off in darkness is ok?

I have the pleasure of working in Madrid on a regular basis. Having been at the game and in Mayor Plaza during the pre-match incidents, I was embarrassed with the actions of some of our fans.

1) I appreciate every club has it's element of a moronic following. Ours were clearly on show on Friday evening and Saturday morning/afternoon. Thankfully, these idiots are in the minority and will hopefully be identified via the extensive CCTV around the square and be held accountable and hopefully banned. As already discussed, they ruined it for the rest of us.

2) That said, it wasn't just the flares and abusive chants, by a few, that caused the carnage. It was the actions by a larger group of so called 'innocent' fans that added to the situation. The amount of litter generated throughout the day caused the police major concerns. I'm not talking about the odd crisp packet or an empty can. There was crap thrown everywhere. People were leaving empty glasses on the floor, that inevitably got kicked over and smashed - a massive headache for all given the amount of tourists and kids around. With over 2k Leicester fans mixing with other tourists it was also inevitable that there wouldn't be enough seats for everyone. Whilst I appreciate that some fans were buying their own beer and food from nearby shops and then taking a cheeky chance of sitting at one of the restaurant tables to consume these, it was embarrassing to then watch some of them take offence and argue with the restaurant owners when they were asked to vacate for waiting (paying) customers. In some instances, chairs were thrown or broken as a result. Naturally the restaurant owners complained to the police.

3) I appreciate that us blokes sometimes loose our peeing accuracy after a few beers. Some of our lot couldn't hit a barn door! As for others, they have really weird toilet habits that should only be seen on some specialist websites. This resulted in some of the small bars having to shut down their facilities. The knock on effect - rather than leaving the square to find an alternative (there are quite a few) some resorted to p*ssing up the side of historic buildings in plain view of all and sundry, including the police. No doubt the Japanese tourists have some great pics to treasure!

4) We are in a foreign city, with a different culture and different rules. I am not in agreement with how the Spanish police handle these scenarios but their tactics are well documented. You cannot stand by and reason with them once they have been given the nod to deal with the situation. As soon as the handful of morons started throwing things at the police, they moved in. Our morons then dispersed into the innocent crowd at Usain Bolt pace. How were the police to know which ones to go for? Their orders were to break up the situation.

In summary, like the rest of our European tour to date, I have loved every minute. On this occasion, pre-match, I should have been sitting in a very sunny, historic, part of Madrid, savouring the moment. Instead, the actions by quite a few, made me sad. Sad for our reputation as a club and as a nation. We wouldn't act this way in our own country or on our own doorstep. We have achieved so much good (in terms of reputation) over the last few years for it to be torn from us by afternoons like Wednesday. Madrid asked us to gather in Mayor Plaza and enjoy ourselves, not take a dump in front to them.

Good post, but in regards to the rubbish left, you have to say it makes it look worse than it is. You get thousands of people in a small space with no bins and people waking through knocking cans over etc, it's gonna spread. It's hardly all 'English football fans with no respect for the country they're in shocker'

It's no different to the way tigers fans left the kp a few years ago and the element of their support certainly doesn't fall under the criteria or stereotypes associated with football fans and boozing. In fact, I'm sure if you checked the floor after a little mix concernt there'd be a few fruit shoots lying about.

I actually bagged my cans up to put in the bin but didn't get chance because the Police had already decided they wanted to come over and knock everyone about.

I thought recycling a few cans was worth sacrificing to avoid a 12 inch steel dildo being wrapped around the back of my legs.

The whole system is very much setup to favour the authorities in Spain when compared with here. I'm not sure corrupt is the right word.

Thats a little harsh tbh. I walked into plaza mayor on weds and within 45 seconds it was kicking off left right and centre, Tuesday was prolly different but you don't always grasp what's going on immediately.

one exit was blocked with plod closing in from middle. Obviously got out as soon as I could but it wasn't easy, probably saved from a good few licks with a battern by three or four lads chucking chairs at the plod funnily enough.

How ever we try to dress it up ,if the total scroats lots without tickets hadn't kicked off our city ,football club and country wouldnt be viewed as such an embarrassment. Total animals and I'm glad when we first went into the square and saw the caliber of these t*****s we made a sharp exit as it was obvious what was going to unfold.

To blame the police for their actions after the behavior of these animals is ridiculous .

Harsh? You saw the trouble and got out, likewise we did and hundreds of others, there's two sides to every story but you've got a few posters on here saying the police were at fault, they were doing their job and carrying out orders.

If the low life's weren't throwing beer, bottles, bombs, flares (insert what you like here) they wouldn't have reacted, they didn't charge us at midday when most were just sitting around.

When  they fired those shots, the scum all cheered and as I said earlier stood there arms held high, then some pleb threw that bomb plus bottles etc, if you're going to do that you deserve a beating, the tourists and families and most other fans all got out or to the arches, the ones that hung around in that mob got hit, then that idiot says 'disgusting' in that clip on here. lol

Yet moments earlier he is waving a flare.

End of the day, you're in their country so respect their rules and authority and you won't get any trouble, it's not rocket science.

Ridiculous is defending the police from beating innocent people. However certain people behave that doesn't justify it.

I have Spanish family and friends and they are just as horrified by the actions of the their police as how some of the English have acted.
