AKCJ Posted 18 April 2017 Posted 18 April 2017 Comfortably the best opposition performance i've seen at the KP. All the talk before the game was about Griezmann and we dealt with him with ease but Godin is the best defender in the world for me. Stuggle to put anyone alongside him for defensive ability. Fair play to him, he's magnificent.

daddylonglegs Posted 18 April 2017 Posted 18 April 2017 Everything he attempted came off. Every header perfectly weighted to a team mate... Disagree regarding Griezmann. He was barely in the game (due to Atleti's game plan) but his work off the ball and the rarity that he did get on it was more than enough justification as to why United want to spend 60m on him.
Koke Posted 18 April 2017 Posted 18 April 2017 He is outstanding. Best defender I have ever seen at the KP. Atleti as a whole were supremely organised. It's a huge compliment to us that we are compared to them. Elite team. They should be our model moving forward.
goose2010 Posted 18 April 2017 Posted 18 April 2017 Unsung hero, he always has been. Not many better if any in the world would fit in well in any team in the premiership.
Melbourne Fuchs Posted 18 April 2017 Posted 18 April 2017 That's the thing about Atletico, everyone focuses on Griezmann but the fact is they have world class players in every position.

AjcW Posted 18 April 2017 Posted 18 April 2017 Greizmann is an anomaly, there's not a player like him in the world in that position, he's the only one I've ever seen who can be arsed to put a shift in for the team defensively as well as going forward. All round they're just an excellent team, I hope they go on to win because I hate Real... maybe Juve too that would be nice. Also Savic appears to be yet another good defender Man City have thrown away!
MC Prussian Posted 18 April 2017 Posted 18 April 2017 Godin is their rock in the centre of defense and he's that good, he makes Savic look world-class, too. Let's not forget they have Luis Filipe and Juanfran with them on either flank, as well. Together, they probably form the best back four in the world right now.

I know it would hurt any side but take Godin out of their back 4 and put that Hernandes chap in there (the one who came on) and they're nowhere near as good. Godin doesn't get the praise he deserves over here for me.

Max Power Posted 18 April 2017 Posted 18 April 2017 Best defender in Europe since Cannavaro. Great defensive unit as a whole. We still had them on the rack for a bit in that second half.

I don't care how good a player you are, if you're a cheat, you're a cheat. First leg antics were a bit out of order with the card waving. Apart from that, they did nothing wrong. Wasn't their fault the ref pointed to the spot instead of giving a free kick. We'd have slowed the game down given the chance. Let's have some class and dignity. They beat us, and they're an outstanding team. Twenty years ago is a different story though!
Ian Nacho Posted 18 April 2017 Posted 18 April 2017 Best defence in the world, against any other team in the world tonight and think we would have had a better chance.

Godin is a legend but Lucas Hernández is incredible (1996) also. Simeone said about him that he will have the level to play at Real Madrid or Bayern Munich (but he would play in Atletico de Madrid)
Guest MattP Posted 19 April 2017 Posted 19 April 2017 He's been the best defender in the World for about 5 years and no one has noticed.

How pique/silva make it into the team of the year time after time is beyond me, best CB in the world and within the worlds top best players imo
Gerard Posted 19 April 2017 Posted 19 April 2017 Someone on here last season recommended that we should sign Godin as back up to Huth and Morgan.
Harry96 Posted 19 April 2017 Posted 19 April 2017 Should've really been named in the TOTY by now. Thought savic and giminez were excellent too.
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 April 2017 Posted 19 April 2017 Amusing reading this compared to the World Cup 2014 thread before a ball had been kicked. Obviously he's a top centre half, but anyone who knows their football knows this already.
M0901 Posted 19 April 2017 Posted 19 April 2017 Spot on OP I said this before we played them and I'm wary of his qualities. What a defender he is. No nonsense, heart of a lion. That back 4 would have been under a lot more pressure had he not been there to galvanise and organise them. World class.
Ted Maul Posted 19 April 2017 Posted 19 April 2017 They were just absolutely outstanding in general defensively. The amount of headers, clearances, blocks and tackles flying in from all angles was ridiculous. Now we know how teams felt when they played us last season...
