Watford (home) Post Match Thread 3 - 0

Lacklustre start, even thought they might be in holiday mode until the first goal. Second half much better with Mahrez looking a bit more like his old self and Slimani with a good cameo. Albrighton superb as seems to be normal for him since CR's departure.

Also Ndidi and Benny solid. Good saves from Kasper. In fact everyone had a good match except Drinkwater really. He seems to be playing very negatively, always either passes returns to the player he received from or passes backwards.

Hopefully get 9th (doubt whether 8th is really on, I think Soton will get that). Looking forward to next season.

I'd really like to beat Spurs and ensure that they don't get to the 81 points we had last season.

I'm a bit puzzled by Watford. I have no idea who half their players are and whenever they go through a sticky patch they pull couple of results out of the bag that steers them away from the relegation zone. Gomes is a decent keeper though.

Watford are a poor mans West Brom.

Cost me 100 lira in beer and grub to watch that, tbf thats only 20 odd quid, I missed Albrightons goal asking for the bill. Bit distracting when you've got hits of the 80s instead of commentary. Well worth it though.

Don't you want some gravy, don't you want some ahhhhhhhhhh?

"I am really pleased with the result. I think the performance, if I am honest, there was no real ebb or flow to the game in the first half.

"I have spoken on many occasions of the importance of the first goal. I felt today with our home record and their away record it was always going to be important.

"Both teams were giving the ball away but probably us more than we are used to. We gave too many unopposed passes away.

"There was no real dynamic about us from set plays. We actually scored from a set play and we had spoken about being dynamic because of the way they were set up. That was really pleasing. It was pleasing to get a clean sheet as well."

Shakey being his refreshingly honest self as usual

I like Shakespeare but he gotta stop it with the "first goal is crucial" stuff. Talk about stating the bleeding obvious. Is he Michael Owen? lol

3-0 flattered us I felt. Whole game had an end of season feel and lacked the intensity it might've had if played earlier in the season. Don't recall any cards being shown, which suggests that both sides were not fully at it. Not surprised by that though.

Yes it was a strange match. However, absolutely delighted after some of the nonsense we had to endure a few months ago...

I thought he was just shinji. saw him come out after the game and speak to a Japanese couple by the barriers. stayed on his feet the whole time!

A standing ovation for Okazaki is as much a ritual as his removal from the field after an hour's play. It is not a measure of his performance.

Give over guys. We play better in the team because of what he offers in the high pressure game we play. He hounds and harrases opposition defenders giving them no time to play out from back. He tracks back and pressures midfielders and forces them into rushed passes.

50% win percentage when Shinji and Vardes start together shows how vital they are both to the team and the way we play.

Did I say any different ?   He was just shinji.  Nothing more, nothing less. it's pretty obvious what he gives us, playing that formation.

I've been saying this for a while. They really are dog shit. Their league position hasn't been a reflection of how shit they actually are. Said to my nephew a while back that id  be disappointed if watford  and/or Burnley  finished above us. We are finally in a position in the league we should be. Now just to catch WBA and finish 8th! Id  have taken top 10 and quarter finals of the champs  league at start of the season!

It seems as if every time Leicester win the opponents are rubbish Watford played reasonablly well and Schemicheal  made some good saves .

Very happy with being safe and up to ninth! I thought atmosphere was pretty shite yesterday to be honest. That was the game that mathematically secured premier league safety when just over a couple of months ago I thought we were gone. Just thought we'd have more than about 40 people in SK1 flogging a dead horse.

You're right, but I suspect it had something to do with the vast majority knowing that we were already safe, in all probability.

Routine home win. I thought we were a little iffy to start with but we did grow into it towards the end of the first half and from the minute we took the lead it was a case of how many by.

Albrighton had a great game and I maintain he's been one of our best players under Shakey. Mahrez was better. Was impressed with Slimani when he came on too. For the first time since signing him I actually felt like he looked a proper fit in our team and maybe he might actually be the answer.

Watford are a funny side. OK in patches but I can see why their fans are unhappy. The usual elitism snobbery on 606 a couple of weeks ago when Watford fans rang in (granted one of them was a div) complaining of how bad a side they are and what a group of mercenaries their team is. I thought their body language was awful at times yesterday. Deeney not starting as well is baffling. I wouldn't be shocked if he's a Leicester player come August.

Rather get Gylfi, didn't realise he worked so hard of the ball.

Good day out today, was a bit tense at times early on, but after we scored it turned into a pretty routine win, which is always nice.

A word on the ref though. When I saw it was Roger East, I tried to think what my opinion on him is. I realised I've not got one. I couldn't even remember what he looks like. The game today kind of showed why - other than missing a few off the ball pushes by Amrabat on Albrighton, everything else was unspectacular. Just got on with the game, gave obvious decisions, nothing controversial, let the game flow. A complete contrast to the likes of Moss or Pawson who have to make everything about him. Bring on more unremarkable refs, and roll on the day when we can bin off the total guff merchants like Moss who've been ruining games for far too long.

I'll second this. I never want to say too much during a game as it's bound to bite me on the arse but I thought he had a very good game.

Can't imagine Swansea letting him go, if they stay up.

Would we still be interested in Deeney now?.. Doubt it.

He looks very overweight and sluggish and has had a very mediocre season.

They turned down £30+m from us... What's he worth now?

Very odd game, just glad with 4 games left we were able to be part of a pretty much meaningless game as it meant we were safe which a few months ago was not happening. Mahrez was back to his best, I just hope it's not the final few games for us as he's got the world at his feet. I thought we became much more of a dangerous team when Slimani came on and I actually think him and Vardy can play together, especially at home. He's got fantastic work rate and has a bigger eagerness to get in the box than Okazaki does, his positioning is much better and obviously his best asset is attacking crosses which is what we lack when Okazaki is playing. I'd like to see Vardy and Slimani for the remaining 3 games, it'd be nice for him to finish with a few more goals and a feel good factor going in to the summer. I want him to stay.

really good game and great confidence boost for the players and manager, we all want to finish as high as we can and a top ten finish and quarter finals of the Champions League after a topsy turvy season is something to be proud of!.Ndidi is proving what a goalscoring midfielder he is and Benny has had a good few games now and seems to be settling. some really good save from Kasper and it is always great to keep a clean sheet.

Just out of interest... here's how he compares to ours this season.

Highlights how bloody harsh people are on Slimani, I know he has his faults but you can't argue with his figures. We just need to get him fit.

I've defended Slimani more than anyone this season.

Its a bit like the flak that Mahrez gets. You might not appreciate both until they are gone.
