But it's not just that and if they haven't realised we have money, more fool those clubs.
I'mPlastic Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Is it just me, being optimistic... But by sticking this sort of price tag on Siggy.. Are they not helping us in a strange sort of way. Mahrez at £50mil seems more than reasonable now? Just a thought.
Marshall Cockney Fox Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Having dosh in bucket loads isn't the same as being prepared to spend it. Arsenal being a massive case in point. I really don't enjoy crazy high prices. Can we be 20 mil or lower as then the fall out is softened if they fail to perform. Mahrez, Vardy, Kante did ok?
mozartfox Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 How much would Maynard go for now, if he was the player he was when we were after him? (I think that makes sense)

Guest Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 IMO it depends on what else we can get. If we have the money then it is a case of which player would improve us most. If that is Siggy then we could push a bit further - maybe £42 + add ons?
Red Squirrel Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 The transfer window is like a game of Poker and at this particular point everyone is raising the stakes The fact that we have done two really good deals for reasonable money so early in the window is commendable. I doubt anyone is going to pay £50M for Sigurdsson. On the other hand I can see a number of clubs who are still short at the end of the window coming in for Mahrez at £45M. No need for Leicester to fold their hand at this point in the game and accept any less. There is a long way to go.... patience needed.

But there are a number of clubs vying for siggy. SO we have to compete. The important thing is to be clear on how high we will go. I would go to 51M id absolutely necessary....but no higher and

If they sold Eriksen they'd definitely be back in for Sigurdsson. I don't think he's not a good player, I just wouldn't be paying that for someone who couldn't get in the team ahead of Eriksen. Eriksen isn't an £80/90mil player either. I get Swansea asking for loads, I've said Leicester should do the same and for Mahrez we pretty much have. There's absolutely no way I'd be paying it though. If we seriously think Sigurdsson is the best player £50mil can get you then we've got badly wrong somewhere. I'd be wanting a Barca/Real level player for that, not someone who failed to make an impact at Spurs. I don't think I'd pay £50mil for anyone. No-one who is good enough to justify that money would come to Leicester.
Ian Nacho Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 £50m on Sigurddson or an extra £15m for James Rodriguez?
Ric Flair Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Surely we didn't put a secretive £40 million bid in and it's now only just come to light. Perhaps we enquiried how much and they said £40 million and we didn't tell them to get fcuked. Either way there's more to it than meets the eye. Please can somebody find me set piece specialist who can play number 10 or on one of the wings and also score penalties. Is that Ryad Boudebouz? Ziyech? Harvey Barnes?
vanity Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Sky Bet has both Swansea and Leicester at 7/2 for Gylfi, which is a heckuva lot better than I have seen in the past. Of course, Everton is still the favorite at 1/2. But the price is getting high. Everton may move to a different option at this price level. If they bow out, I can see LC sticking around throughout the summer, comfortable with our MFs going into the season but ready to but Gylfi if he genuinely becomes available. And if LC can add Gibson and finish signing Nacho, Gylfi can look at our squad and see a path to Europe. Here's hoping, I guess. :-)
Lesteban Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 I was convinced that there wasn't a chance we would actually go for Siggy, and I'm still a skeptic about how true it is. But if true, its huge news for us - £40m bid is unprecedented. Unfortunately I don't think he is worth that even in current market, certainly not more. He won't force a move, so I doubt it will happen. It also begs the question: what were we playing at last summer? These are the types of players we should have gone for back then.
VLC86 Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Another view of this, If Gylfi went to China for £50m would you not comment about how mental the world has gone?
chadlcfc Posted 10 July 2017 Posted 10 July 2017 Even the bids we have going in for players shows how much of a cock up last summer was. I don't think he is worth £50 Million at all. I cannot see us paying the £40 million that we supposedly bid either.

If we went for Boudebouz for example, the fact that we bid £40 million for Siggy could lead to Montpellier increasing their asking price as it shows we're fairly desperate for players in that position. goddamn you rudders

The majority of them failed because they're poor and we were terribly organised. I don't buy it's entirely because they had never played in the league before. At these kinds of prices I'd definitely go with Boudebouz. He's got some great stats in a league that has produced absolutely loads of quality players, in this league especially.
