With today's technology available they could have found them in seconds of they wanted to.

When I volunteered at a charity shop and posted on here about a 17 yr old being interviewed their HO picked up on it as they search the internet for any mention of their name. I am sure the same is done with porn and terroism.

The problem is how do they determine what is genuine and what words are searched for? Posts can easily be missed.

The ones I've watched in the past have normally just filled me with anger. I've began watching some that I couldn't finish as well. I don't think they perpetuate a loss of compassion at all, in fact I would say people who watch them are more likely to gain more compassion.

It has nothing to do with internet liberty but if you can't watch these types of videos out of morbid curiosity, does it take much of a further step to say you can't watch horror films?

In any crime, to be guilty you need to have what's called the mens rea (the mental element and by extension reason for doing so) and the actus reus (The physical element and by extension physically doing something) doing one without the other is not a crime, for instance taking home someone else's coat from a nightclub because you thought it was yours is not theft, providing you return it, as you took it home (actus reus) but didn't realise it was someone else's (no mens rea of theft) Therefore for watching these types of videos on the internet to be a crime, I would contest that a person would need to be viewing them for gratification and/or out of support for those committing the act of violence in said video. Simply watching them out of morbid curiosity would constitute the actus reus but not the mens rea.

Well they clearly perpetuate a loss of compassion in those who become radicalised, many of whom admitted that they were attracted to the ideology of empowerment through killing, through watching such videos.

As for horror films - the reason I don't feel that's an accurate comparison is that they are'nt real. They are make believe, whereas execution videos are genuine snuff/reality. There's a clear difference.

I've seen some awful, stomach churning fights and assaults when I worked at a few nightclubs over the years. I've seen a person dead, after they were run over by a bus... I've seen a guy dead on the pavement in South London - probably shot... But I made the mistake of watching a beheading video (several years ago now) and I could'nt "unsee" it for weeks after. I honestly feel I lost something - soul-wise- after viewing it, and I feel very disturbed when I hear other people talk about viewing them in such a matter of fact way. That can't be right, surely?

I could not watch those kind of videos. I also do not like the video kill games. Too realistic for me. Not so much a problem with the alien ones as I know they are not real. For the majority of people the 'shoot and kill' games are a bit of fun and a release from the stresses of life. I realise and accept that. But for some they are an obsession playing them everyday for several hours. Who knows what that can do to the mind when determining what reality is?

Some people protest at what terrorists do yet play video games where they are part of a rebel force fighting against a corrupt government.

Maybe we are all part of a video game played by a higher power.

He wouldn't need to, IS are from the salafist wahhabist sect of Islam.

Even if there were Muslims in the crowd they wouldn't subscribe to that form of Islam so the attacker wouldn't have viewed them as one himself, he would regard them as much of a kuffir as me or you.

@MattP speaking truth.

What happens is there are automated systems that flag up key words, too many key words and the system homes in on that ip address.

I always wonder how much the families want their loved ones all the front pages or how useful it is. I hope they've asked the families although at this time it seems unlikely.

Video games do not cause people to commit horrendous acts like this

Yea, I have never got the video games point. There was violence before video games.

Yeah, I played GTA loads but so far haven't hijacked any taxis, ran anyone over or murdered any prostitutes to get my money back.

No but I did say very few are obsessed. They may be slightly unbalanced to start with. You would have to ask a psychologist if this could be a factor.Playing a couple of hours after a day at the office is fine and a good way to wind down. Playing 16/17 hrs a day is not healthy.

Doing anything repetitive for 16/17 hours a day isn't healthy. :nigel:

Playing 16/17 hours a day is not healthy for a variety of reasons but doesn't necessarily turn someone into a violent psychopath
