Ha ha ha, I find it funny, so no ITK info then? :whistle:lol

Not from our side nothing. But the Chelsea itk I know seems to think Drinky is the main target.

We do seem to have an obsession with a creative CM, we haven't played with one for years really. I don't class DD as one because his goals and assists are as rare as rocking horse shit. We're a team who use wingers and width to create. A CM that's box to box, combative and also creative would be lovely... but likely to be ridiculously expensive or not available.

We've also not played with an attacking right back for a few years but that doesn't mean we don't need one. I think it's fairly common knowledge that last season proved the way we play was starting to be less effective and we need to look at ways of progressing, or at least alternative ways of playing should we struggle again.

Teams that refuse to change or refuse to strengthen their weak areas are ignorant and I don't see how they can become successful. If we are simply relying on the fact we defied the odds to win the league and so we can do it again, then it's very naive. Teams around us are changing and we ought to look at our options. Can we continue to play a non-possession style of football with full backs that don't particularly support the inverted wingers and two defensive minded central midfielders? Relying on disruption in the final 3rd by Okazaki and Vardy as a source of our attacks. Many teams play 3-4-3 now which is crowding out our style of play and the lack of support from Simpson has definitely not helped Mahrez. It's no coincidence that Riyad's most explosive spell for us came when he had de Laet causing no end of problems on the over lap and he was able to get more space to do damage. I'm not saying that will make Mahrez return to the form of 15/16 but it would certainly help.

Likewise in central midfield, we have two defensive type midfielders yet they are sometimes struggling to protect our defence, certainly against the better teams in the league we ship a lot of goals. We don't see a great deal of creation either, which I feel is neither here nor there. Either be defensive and provide protection or be attacking and provide a genuine source of creation.

It is also several years since we had a consistent and dangerous set piece taker, now this is a disgrace. A creative midfielder might not fit in to our system but getting a player who can put very good corners and free kicks in is beyond belief. We now have one of the best attackers of set pieces in Harry Maguire and we're missing a trick if we don't have a dead ball specialist. If we could have one that was comfortable providing us creativity from open play as well then that would be ideal.

Last season we bemoaned a lack of creativity due to Mahrez being off form but we simply can't just rely on him and the odd bit of nice play from Albrighton to consistently support our attacks. We need other options and yet from central midfield there's very little.

I think we ought to be looking at the possibility of a change to 3-4-1-2 and we're only 1 or 2 new signings away from  this. We'd also solve the problem at right back as Albrighton is a ready made RWB, likewise Fuchs or Chilwell are from the left. It would also give our central midfielders less of a battle in protecting our defense as there's another centre half to provide cover, with Maguire we have a dynamic centre half who's one of the best passers I've seen and he could flick between defense and midfield quickly, in a way that Eric Dier does.

I'm just bemused by the lack of urgency in our club from top to bottom. There's still a huge air of belief that the title win will see us right for quite some time and that we don't really need much surgery to our playing team or off the field management but we can't stand still. We've too many loyalties to some quite average and elderly players, not to mention some executives who are nowhere near the level bestowed upon them, our academy is a disgrace and will never be positive whilst a certain Jon Rudkin & Chums are involved.

Ive gone off on a rant here but ultimately yes we do need the option of creativity from other positions.

At the risk of being an utter doom merchant, sadly our club doesn't have the clout we wish they did.

I'm sure most of our wishlist players aren't sat by the phone desperate to play for us. Similarly, Chelsea must look attractive to some of our players too.

I can't waste energy worrying about this. Que sera sera.

So you're all for selling our players when they hit their peak?

Peak value I said and in most cases yes, there is a lot to be said for it.

I've been out all day and just read this thread and there are loads of people saying we shouldn't sell even for £40m. I would like these people to tell the board at what price would they sell Drinkwater at?

Everything has a price..... but if you aren't keen to sell then it might be a very high price.

If you think that we can progress to being a top six club AND that holding on to our proven playmaker is key to kicking on then why sell at all (or for anything other than crazy money)?

We spend  $1 in $6 wisely (..... the Thais stand for it..)... so 36m for dd equals 6m of effective replacement... that might take months to bed in.

DD is not holding us back.  Keep him.

Setting our sights on being a "top six club" is a step too far. Most of those clubs earn about five time what we do, we can compete in a one off season but that's it.
