At £30m that's a sell.

Would we be any weaker with Ndidi and James?

A transfer out only makes e sense if we can do something useful with the money. That is we can find a player who is 1) as good, 2) is a good fit to the side, and 3) who is willing and able to come here

If we sell without ALL of those criteria being met, we establish a reputation as a selling club, which is not in our long term interest.

Can anyone see a player who does fit all three? If not, then don't sell

Those emphasised words that you omitted are quite important.

I didn't omit anything it was the headline for the article yesterday

it has since been updated as stated

Yup, look at Barcelona for example of this.

Think today still showed that we're short of quality in the middle with few injuries, 60/70th min an Iborra or Drinky to come on and either see out the game or take it to the opposition. James was lagging near the end, obviously after Arsenal, shakey was worried about swapping it up

Why sell? James has shown himself to be an able deputy, which is great because it will give us good strength in depth in the position for the first time in a while. Why sacrafice that almost immediately for money we don't really need?

MJ is efficient and I expect Iborra will be similar (but with a bit more attacking intent). neither have drinkys ability to control the tempo of the game though hopefully Iborra will may develop this if he comes to terms with the league.

I can't see us selling.

We couldn't replace him for the money being discussed.

And before anyone starts, James has done okay but DD is (by far imo) the better player.

Rudkin ignored numerous attempts by derby to discuss a move for lawrence so I'd be surprised if he was rushing around to respond to a predatory bid from Chelsea.

As with Mahrez, there should be no sale of DD unless we have a replacement lined up to complete before the end of the window.

Chelsea may be desperate but so what. DD is our player and we have no need to sell, particularly so late in the window. We have to make it clear that we are no longer a selling club.

We are also a business and if those running said business see merit in taking a huge offer for DD then that is their decision. Personally I think our 'brand' is strengthened by keeping such players. I don't run LCFC though.

the midfield was playing noticeably higher than last season, now this could have been down to Maguire being willing and able to bring the ball out but James was playing a good 10-15 yards higher than Drinkwater most of last season, if James can build on his current performance level then we have already replaced Drinkwater

Or it could've been that we were playing a Brighton outfit who struggled to get the ball out of their own half...

I'd like to believe this, but realistically we'll be more pinned back against tougher opposition.

yes we will but even against the weaker teams last season Drinkwater was 5 yards in front of Morgan playing short passes to him and Simpson until one of them launched it, this could be a style tweak like I said and Drinkwater would play as high up as James did Vs Brighton, obviously that remains to be seen, just saying we don't nessacerally need to sign someone should DD be sold

Oh I'd agree. I don't necessarily think he'd need replacing, it's just at the moment we look a bit thin just because of Iborra's injury. Once he's back, realistically we have enough squad players to make the season without DD. It'd just be a case of making sure we invested in other areas if we were to sell him (IMO). I personally feel we play slightly "better" football with James as we're not so inclined to go for the direct long ball to Vardy that has worked so well in the past.

Danny is a great player and we'd miss him for sure, but we have lots of cover in his position and we seem to be doing fine without him, so £30M, I'd probably sell and reinvest in another position. Just my opinion before the inevitable backlash .

Thats  exactly what it is. The opposition pressed us high when huth/Morgan have it cos they know it has to go short to drinky or be hit long. With Maguire they can't as thy know he can bring it out past their first line. drinky drives forward with the ball better then James and I would hope we will soon be able to see this happening.

Very true. Ì think it's partly due to Maguire coming out with the ball, allowing James to be 10-15 yards further up. With Drinkwater he often came back to collect a 5 yard pass from Huth/Morgan. This is the importance of having at least 1 ball playing CB who is willing to take initiative and not wait for the CMs to hold their hands.

Having DD, Ndidi and a fit James in our squad makes us actually pretty strong in that area. Would be a real statement if we kept him (and he's happy to stay). That said, if they offer £40 mill it'd be hard to turn down.
