Blanchflower78 Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 For me it was naivety on the field. Left was massively exposed for third goal and as soon as that went in was inevitable they'd win it. With that in mind was hugely dissapointing to see both centre halves shrugged off for winner. It's alright calling Mahrez but we choose to play him, maybe that's the wron call bit management can change that at any time . Lots to learn, some positives of course, our season won't be defined by games of this standard of opposition however the manner of this defeat may linger for more time than we'd like, I hope not.
sdb Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 Horrible. I knew we'd throw it away and we had them on the ropes. Loads of positives but - as I'm sure has been said - our defending from crosses and the bizarre decision to go back to 442 have killed us. Hope le we kick off next week as not many teams will give our forwards so much space.
ealingfox Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 Agree with a lot being said, there's some good posts in this thread. I thought we weren't undeserving of something from the game but wouldn't go as far as saying we were robbed. More positives than negatives id say, we were competitive and based on that performance have more than enough to stay up. They were committed and there was quality there. Vardy looks sharp, James to his credit looks up to being in the 18 at this level again - I'll admit to being a bit sceptical of that. Maguire looks good and did superbly for the first. Our tactics prove a bit too basic in situations like that. To be fair to Shakespeare he was stymied a little bit by the absences - Iborra would have been perfect off the bench and Drinky would have been preferable too - but the subs were poor. He was far too keen to bring Iheanacho on when the situation didn't call for him at all. Amartey did ok but was asked to play an unfamiliar role for him. Mahrez should have come off, agree with those saying Chilwell should have replaced him. We are missing that little bit of quality that helps us in moments like that, some who can take touches and carry the ball long enough that others can find space or pick a run. I thought they all looked a shade off full fitness to be honest and were too tired to get to the ball quickly enough after 75 minutes. Disappointing but yeah, plenty of positives. It'll be a fvcking sweet day when we finally beat those tossers. At the risk of sounding bitter, worst fans in the league for me. Their attitude is appalling. I was undercover in the home end tonight and whilst our ends can definitely be better it was decent tonight. I do think we are hard on ourselves. Solid scenes for the first 2 and a very respectable goonage for the third. Need to sing more when we are behind though but easier said than done.
HybridFox Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 Vicente Iborra would have been the man to bring on for James had he been fit . Reverting back to that 4-4-2 just opened us up massively. We were stuffed by the handball. But the way we collapsed was just all too familiar. When will we learn??? Plenty of positives from the individual performances though. Delighted for Vardy especially, a real menace today.

When we recruit a decent manager who doesn't have to learn.

We as a collective should be wanting to win football matches, not be happy with NEARLY seeing it through.
KFS Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 Shit result, shitty Arsenal. Away end was brilliant though.

So James looking solid, Maguire's brilliant debut, Vardy looking unplayable and Shinji on form aren't positives?! Come on.
420Hashish Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 At least we know Vardy will be hot this season because he scored a brace today.
Lambert09 Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 This forum is not the place to go for comfort after a soul destroying defeat.
Scotch Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 Gutted about the result butter optimistic about some of our performance. I think it would have been a different story if we had Drinky and Iborra to call on.... the subs changed the game. Ours and there's. A bit more depth added to the squad and we'll be fine.
act smiley Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 That first interview... "blah blah blah we'll take positives out of it blah blah blah", "will you take positives out of this?" The state of sports journalism in this country...
Bob666 Posted 11 August 2017 Posted 11 August 2017 Gutted - our best chance of beating the Arse with their crap back 3 & first match hoodoo but typical LCFC. Lots of emotion on/off the pitch with missus being an AFC fan - every fF'ing year However at least Vardy was sharp & during the first half we know what it's like to play without Mahrez.

He scored 3 against ManCity last season and a few weeks later we were just two points away from the drop-zone. Conceding 4 goals to a mediocre Arsenal team doesn't bode well for the new season. Arsenal scored three times through the middle. I would say, we still have a CB problem. And Fuchs is still only looking at the ball, completely ignoring, what is happening behind his back. He is old enough to know better.

EastAnglianFox Posted 12 August 2017 Posted 12 August 2017 Positives, yes.....but absolutely no way at this level should you be conceding 2 in the last 6 or 7 minutes! It was just all very "Leicester" in the end (title winning season aside of course) and it never ever gets any easier to stomach.

We should wait and see what this season has in store for us.

UPinCarolina Posted 12 August 2017 Posted 12 August 2017 Okay, so I'm hammered drunk, BUT... Today was Shinji's best ever LCFC match. Bold prediction: He starts all season somehow and scores 10 goals. HE ONLY GETS BETTER
Ian Nacho Posted 12 August 2017 Posted 12 August 2017 I really don't understand the people that are slating the players, especially at this stage of the season. Okay I, like everyone else, isn't too best pleased with the result considering we were winning with 5 minutes to go but as a whole at the first game of the season the most important thing is the performance. On the whole tonight I think we put a good shift in, okay yes I agree that we shouldn't be conceding 4 but it's very fine margins. We go in at halftime 2-1 up it's a completely different game. Look back to a year ago, we'd just put in a disgraceful performance in against a poor Hull side who by rights we should be beating. On the flip side, we've put in a solid performance in tonight against a strong Arsenal attacking side, not at the back mind you, and we were unlucky not to go away with something. Points would have been nice but this is something we can build upon as the season goes on.
