Arsenal post match 4-3

Offside and handball. Blind refs and linesmen.

Morgan should move to Newcastle on last night's performance and we need more of the Mahrez in the second half. Shakespeare should stop over thinking games.

This loss is nothing like Hull last year.

I am disappointed but positive.

hopefully Maguire and Drinkwater in the same side will encourage us to keep the ball a bit better...we will never beat Arsenal as long as we play like we do....we must be able to mix it up!

Waking up this morning reading some of the posts on this thread, agree whole heartedly with some regatding the subs we did really lose our direction which allowed the Gooneys back into the game!

But it still pisses me off that Ozil was allowed to cheat in such a way virtually right under Mike the **** Deans nose such a blatant use of the arm to bring the ball round to control the direction of the ball, when will we ever get a decent rub of the green whenever we play Arsenhole we always seem to have more contentious decisions against us and the way they celebrate when winning is just Embarrassing as if they'd won the champions league I'm waiting for their obligatory tweet to come out !!

Fuch Arsenhole that's one down and 37 games to go and at times we looked bloody brilliant we will be fine and do well this season and we have a return game at the KP with those Tw@s !!

onwards and upwards !!

There's not going to be many teams that score 3 at arsenal

...and not many will go there,  be 3-2 up with seven minutes left and lose either!

Gutted by the result. Not blaming Shakey about substitutions as I applauded Kelechi coming on as I felt we could stretch them and score again. I do think though that games are won in midfield and although our squad is awash with them, only Drinkwater ( not always) can control the tempo of a game and we missed that. Time will tell if Iborra will do that for us but we do need more quality in the midfield as we were hopelessly overwhelmed in the centre of the pitch it seemed. I fondly remember the trio of Izzet Lennon and Savage running the show against top teams with clever triangles and control. Am I the only one to feel that Ndidi has a lot to learn and should not be regarded as first pick when they are all fit.

Break the bank and get Wilshere in ASAP? Tell him to play make behind Vardy and Kelechi and we would have a side.

I feel really mixed emotionally having left the game with 8 minutes to go at 2-3 in-order to catch my train back to the Midlands.

The 80 odd minutes that I saw we were very impressive overall and didn't ever really look outclassed by Arsenal which is what I had feared going into the game. Vardy, Maguire, Albrighton, and James were all excellent in my opinion. Sadly I felt the opposite can be said for Morgan, Mahrez, and Fuchs performances.

I don't want to be overly critical of Shakespeare as in my view Wenger's tactical changes won them the game as much as ours cost us the result. What concerns me slightly is that we seemed a little unprepared for their changes which did surprise me given the amount of times over recent years we've seen Arsenal revert to such tactics successfully; off the top of my head Bournemouth away, and Chelsea in the FA Cup final spring to mind. Ultimately no team should be losing a game in which they score 3 goals away from home.

For me Amartey was the right choice and was effective in tightening up the midfield, and whilst I left as soon as Iheanacho was introduced what followed didn't surprise me as Arsenal had a clear numerical advantage in the areas of the pitch where they were always going to look to target. Add to the fact that Giroud is very effective off the bench and almost unplayable at times I think we were left very exposed by our tactical choices. I felt as soon as Arsenal introduced Ramsay and Giroud and switched to a front 3 we should have countered by going 5-3-2, thereby allowing us to match them up man for man defensively to nullify their attacking threat, give us the numbers behind the ball to restrict the space for Arsenal to work in, whilst also having an attacking outlet on the counter.

Defensively we have to improve as our shape was all over the place at times. Whilst Arsenal certainly have the capability we made it far too easy for them to cut through us at will. Fuchs for me has to focus more on his defensive responsibilities rather than trying to be a marauding wingback which he's no longer capable of due to his decreasing pace. Morgan is another for me who's on his last legs too and in my opinion should no longer be a regular as he's really struggling with the basics which is sad as his decline has been quite rapid. Whilst we have a replacement in waiting for Fuchs, I think it's crucial that we bring another CB in before the window closes.

Overall, this was a much improved performance and there were a lot of positives to draw from the game. Given the fact that it was our first game back and we're still probably not at our peak in terms of match sharpness, plus the current midfield injury crisis which would have probably seen us pick up a result I think we can have a lot of optimism going into this season. If we can pick up points early doors I can only see us getting stronger as the season progresses as our fitness peaks and other teams tail off. Yes, last night's performance highlighted some shortcomings but in all honesty if you're going to make mistakes now is the right time to realise your weaknesses. So long as we learn from our mistakes, and address the areas where we need to strengthen I think we won't be far off the European spots which I'd certainly be happy with come the end of the season.

Come on guys cheer up! Yes the result hurts but so many positives to take from the game.

I remember the last time we threw away points at the Emirates the boys used it to motivate them to achieve something pretty amazing.

Onwards and upwards!!!

Not for the feeble price indicated....if he does go I think Iborra is better anyway...whether he suits us is another question.

We REALLY, REALLY need a new CB....I would happily pay £30m for Gibson....I think he and Maguire would forge an excellent partnership.

Arsenal always jammy against us lol I'm happy with how we played and if that is how we are going to play the whole season it is going to be exciting and I'm certain we will be challenging for the top 6

Arsenal fan just tweeted saying Leicester will be relegated this season because they have "no bottle". Such a cock ??? scored 3 at the Emirates. Arrogance personified.

I'm only taking Niall Jones seriously because Cardiff is in London. If he was a glory hunting fan from another country, I would just dismiss his comments for the tripe they are.

You can pick the positives all you like....at the end of the day we couldn't beat a side with two left backs and an attacking midfielder at the back......we threw it away, against any side, that is criminal.

Get real!!

Well said my friend!

I don't understand the doom and gloom merchants after such an inspired performance last night. Yes we made mistakes, but what team wouldn't against that attack. There are so many positives to take from the game, why aren't fans happy?!

Easy to blame Shakey. He did nothing wrong. You can't be a goal up with 10 minutes to go and end up losing the game - not acceptable and some of the defending from Simpson and Morgan was piss poor. Both of them look done based on that performance.

What,. Vast majority of city fans at the game were blaming Shakespeare for his dreadful substitutions and not reacting to wengers substitutions and change of tactics when he brought Giroud and Ramsey on.  Shakespeare was to blame.  One thing you don't do at Arsenal is to invite pressure and all out attack from them in thr final third of the game so why he did what he did with his ridiculous substitutions just baffles me.

Last time I saw us win at Arsenal was 1973 Glover and Stringfellow scored.  Ah well the wait goes on.

We never beat these *****. and who cares! it's their claim to recent fame that they beat us twice when we won the Premier League. well we won the Premier league what have they achieved for the size of club they are a couple of F.A cup WIns. my brother went to the match and said that they are a bunch of moaning ****** who moan all the way through the match and then sing and dance at the end because they have won! listen a lot of positives for the rest of the season and Harry Maguire looks really good. i's always great to see Shinji score and i hope he gets more this season.

Mahrez did nothing in the second half apart from the corner for the 3rd goal.

Actually, that's not true at all. Arsenal are usually clueless when teams put men behind the ball, they're only any good when they have the chance to exploit space. That's why almost every team will go to Arsenal and try and shut up shop and try to frustrate them. The thing is, we can't play that way, especially because we're too poor defensively.

If we could defend setpieces properly we'd have won that game. They created chances all match, we defended badly all match. It's easy to say the subs cost us the game but at what point did our defence look comfortable? Never. We looked good as a team, but every time Arsenal attacked they looked dangerous because there was so much space around the pitch.

Shit happens. If we play like we did last night against Brighton we'll absolutely muller them.

While I'm probably repeating several other comments, I think while there's much to learn from this performance, especially defensively, we can at least take heart from knocking 3 past Arsenal. You could argue that it wasn't a strong defense but it's probably on a par with the rest of the league. I think if we were playing any other team outside of last season's top 6, we'd have won yesterday. Our defense clearly needs work though, and Shakey probably needs to give Nige a call to share some wisdom from the fabled 'Big Nige School of Game Management'... Lesson 1, don't sub a midfielder to play two strikers when you're winning away from home.

Also, last night reminded me how underrated Vardy and Albrighton are. You just know Vardy will get goals and you just know Albrighton will put in great crosses.

For the first 2 goals I was basically celebrating as soon as Albrighton got the ball. He's just so reliable in those situations.

Yeah.....Pearson the tactical genius!

For all of Pearson's strengths tactics / game management wasn't one of them.

On this subject Ive been told that Shakey was Pearson's tactician. ?
