CyprusFox Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 This is being reported in the Express and Star. Not sure if there's any truth to it. Leicester chiefs plan to hold onto star players as Premier League deadline day approaches LEICESTER’S mega-rich owners have held Far East summit talks to head off a deadline-day disaster. Thai billionaire Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and son Aiyawatt will head off any attempts to ransack the club of its star players. Title-winning stars Riyad Mahrez, Danny Drinkwater and Jamie Vardy are all on the radar of the big boys while Demarai Gray is also a £25m target of Bournemouth. Boss Craig Shakespeare is likely to be given reassurances from the very top this weekend that he will not see his side wrecked by a flurry of late outward deals, with the transfer window closing at 11pm a week today. Chelsea are weighing up a move for Vardy but no bid has yet been received, while Stamford Bridge boss Antonio Conte is also keen on midfielder Danny Drinkwater. Mahrez is the only one to declare he wants to leave the Foxes and backed it up with a written transfer request. But Leicester have rejected three bids from Italian side Roma and won’t budge unless their valuation of nearer £50m is met.
Nick Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 We have come so far an losing 3 players and gaining 120 million quid couldn't be more poles apart from what we need. It'd be like going back 3 years as our stars and continued success allows us to attract players - if they were all to leave we'd be genuinely screwed on a number of levels imho and the owners know it.
Guest TaggertvsWise Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 Great news. Money means very little to us vs hanging onto the right players as a club right now. Bizarrely, the massive influx of cash has actually handed power back to the clubs and, for a team like ours, to not get bullied is how it should be.
Babylon Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 I really don't know what goes through the minds of some clubs. They really must think we're nothing more than a Burnley, happy to cash in on their assets. Other people "Say Mr Billionaire, would you care you accept £20m, £15m and £20m for Mahrez, Drinkwater and Vardy a week before the season?" Leicester "Not really" Others "You don't want to completely wreck your whole season for £45m? Why not, they are better than you though and lots of foreign glory hunters on twitter have already changed their username to "drink-chelsea", "Mahroma" and "Vardesque". Why won't you let them go and panic buy Try Deeney for £50m?"
Scotch Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 I don't think it will upset the squad that much either. The only player I can see that would be unhappy about not moving is Mahrez but it appears he has been told £50m or you don't go so we can't be blamed if that isn't met. If a team does bid that though, I reckon we have to sell him but I really don't see that happening.
sylofox Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 I don't see any going and this is not new news. Mahrez and his agent were told season kick off is deadline day. I would expect DD JV and Kasper were told pretty much the same. The only out goings will be those deemed surplus or a huge ridiculous bid.
foxy boxing Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 every player has their price, what the owners are actually saying our star players won't be sold on the cheap and the club will do everything in it's power to keep them but as everyone knows money talks! Barcelona didn't want to sell Naymar did they! but what happened!

surrifox Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 I suppose that at least Bournemouth have gone about things with a bit of respect and made a sensible opening bid (if indeed reports are true) for Gray and not dicked us about

Can't see any of them leaving this window but if one did, I think it would be drinky, despite all the Mahrez talk.

Guest Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 That depends on if they class Drinkwater as a star player He is still one of my shock moves of the transfer window ( i think the thread was started ages ago)
SkidsFox Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 Won't feel happy until the deadline is over. So much pressure at certain other clubs to buy eg Arsenal, Chelsea, and if the likes of Coutinho are being quoted at £130 million, then our players will seem a bargain.
TAFKA Castroneves Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 Great news - but like i said in another thread the owners still need to buy a couple more decent to top players as a signal of intent to the rest of the dressing room. It's all well and good us saying we won't sell - but we need to show the Vardys, Mahrez's etc that we are still the club to be at - and that we will buy - Nacho is a great start towards that. Vardys already turned down Arsenal once because he saw he had a better chance playing for England here, but the more offers come the more heads can turn - so i'm really hoping we go a grab a top centre half and a top winger/creative option (sell Musa/Gray to make room) then we'll be competing for Champions League places again
urban.spaceman Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 One week till the end of the window - there's no way the club will let anyone go that isn't surplus or not good enough (looking at you Yohan). Only Mahrez has expressed a desire to leave but I honestly can't see him going now.
MPH Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 i remember when a 400k bid from Liverpool took our captain Kevin McDonald! we used to sell anything of value. Those days are behind us now which is refreshing.

Barcelona didn't want to sell Naymar did they! but what happened! His contract contained a release clause. Barcelona were obliged to allow Neymar to speak to buyers who met it Much like us with Kante & Vardy last summer, Kante accepted the offer & Vardy didn't. Simple. And if Courtinho is worth more than £138m, Mahrez is worth more than £45m and we should decline that too
Wdywd Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 I'm still kind of amazed they managed to get Mahrez a new contract WITHOUT a release clause in it last summer. That alone was some great work. This is obv just talk atm but good to see at least. Will be much happier in a week
smr Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 Superb. Exactly what the owners need to do, if we cave into these big clubs and let our star players go it will make us look like a club with owners devoid of any ambition. By stating this they're saying to our top players that we are a forward thinking club with high aims and wanting to become a bigger club, which will hopefully make them think that way too, that they're already at a top club and progressing club.
Vlad the Fox Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 Since they took over the club we have been very good at keeping hold of the players we have wanted to.
fuchsntf Posted 24 August 2017 Posted 24 August 2017 CS has to back that up by Finding 1-3 Team selections,by giving those stars quality gametime. Also Poor Form should carry consequences...! Plus the Fans need to support gameday selections, and not get negative before a ball is kicked. Some of pre game matchthreads posts Were quite pathetic, for our 1st 3games of the season.

I can't see Mahrez disagreeing with this either because in his head he will value himself that highly and is probably slightly insulted by Romas bids to get him on the cheap and not showing enough desire to meet his true valuation.
