What are the odds of Drinkwater immediately becoming an England regular now he plays for a big club?

He's gotta be playing for the big club first

I am going to rant a little.

In 2015/16 we signed Kante, He did not want to join us initially, yet he signed and gave absolutely everything in the City shirt and played such a massive part in us winning the league. I think its fair to say that without him, we wouldn't have won the league and probably wouldn't have had such amazing memories of champions league nights down the King Power.

So we offer him a new bumper contract, yet he says he wants to wait until after the Euro's to make a decision on his future. He has a great tournament, and it becomes apparent afterwards that he wants move on. Unfortunately for us, he has a buy out clause in his contract, probably one of the key factors in us managing to sign him in the first place. Chelsea offer more that half on top of the release clause and he sadly leaves.

So called CIty fans on social media and on here call him a judas, a snake, and wishing him to sustain major injuries. I mean, how dare he leave us to progress his career? To a club that wasn't even in the champions league? The truth is, Chelsea are an established club, who had a terrible season due to various circumstances. It was the first time in over a decade that they hadn't qualified for Europe, where it was our first time ever in the champions league. The likelihood of us qualifying for the competition again, let alone retaining the premier league was much less than Chelsea. He did the right thing for his career, which has since resulted in him winning the league again, becoming the PFA player of the year and a regular starter in the France side.

I was gutted when he left, but in my eyes he is a Leicester legend for his influence in helping win the biggest trophy in the clubs history.

This leads me to DD. 5 years he has been at the club, with very mixed consistency each season. He was amazing the year we gained promotion, and obviously played a huge part in us winning the league. Like Kante, he goes down as a Leicester hero for the title triumph. He gets offered a new bumper contract, which he accepts and states he sees himself retiring here.

Last season, i think its fair to say that most of the players failed to show they were fully deserving of their new contracts which includes DD. Despite picking up an injury, he played on which was at detriment to his performances. I don't blame him, nobody wants to sit out of a champions league campaign through injury but he also got that ban for the off the ball incident at Watford. In my eyes, his performances like most in the team were not worthy of the salary they were collecting every week.

At the end of the season, Mahrez releases a statement saying he wants to leave, and so called fans start jumping on his back just like they did Kante. To me he hadn't performed to the level required to gain the attention for a big move, yet at least he came out early enough to enable us to search for a replacement. We haven't received any suitable offers and therefore he remains with us. Despite this he has still turned out for us in all 3 league games this season and not kicked up a fuss, unlike Van Dijk or Diego Costa. Some City fans still want to see the back of him though.

Yet DD decides to hand in a transfer request this week with next to no time to get in a replacement. The timing is horrendous, and yesterday sees us scrambling to get a Adrien Silva in as a replacement whilst he is sat outside Chelsea's training ground and a fee hasn't even been agreed. He has put us in a terrible situation, and we don't even know if we have got Silva in as a replacement yet.

DD said he could see himself ending his career here last season, and now wants out but we here nothing from him as to why or a thank you to the club now he has moved on. He gets nothing from me next week, all he is to me now is a Judas. The worst part is people still think this of Mahrez and Kante, but at least they didn't leave the club in a situation like he has.

I'm gutted. I love DD. He encapsulated our industrious style of play for me and when I think of our champions season I think of him a lot. However, he's gone now. Good luck to him yes. But this is football, and he pushed his way out after pledging his allegiance. I feel bad for saying this but I do hope he sits on the bench and regrets it.

Said it before and I’ll say it again. He is an England regular, he just keeps pulling out of every squad with injury. Southgate more or less said he’s guaranteed a place he just keeps having to miss out

I'm not going to lie. It's pissing me right off that Chelsea have bought another one of our title winning players. They don't even need him. It's infuriating actually that clubs like Chelsea can just come in and cherry pick your best players. If they buy Mahrez as well then we'll....

Scout your own ****ing players!

What a tosser. Pity him because Chelsea don't even bloody want him. They are using him for his nationality and he's left us in the lurch to go and sit on the bench. Another contract that meant fvck all.

Thanks for the memories though. Will always have 2014 and 2016. Great player on his day but getting injured more and more frequently and more of a moody cvnt with each passing season.

Sad sad state of affairs that we can't even deny he's got a better chance of going the World Cup on their bench than in our first team.

Drinky hasn't been fit for a while which contributed to some odd performances, good luck to him and I wish him the best. Been an excellent servant to our club and it is always sad to see such a player leave.

He's been instrumental in our rise over the past few years, and was one of the standout players in both our Championship and PL winning seasons, and for that we can only say thank you and wish him the best.

I hope he forces himself into their starting 11 but I really can't see it, he'll make 20 appearances max in all comps this season I reckon.

£35m is a good fee however, especially if we land Silva for around the reported £22m figure.

Whilst I get the 'thanks for the memories' posts...  he's gone, he's not a Leicester player and consuquently I feel entirely ambivalent towards him...

maybe its it's just a coping mechanism?

good luck to you Danny. Probably my favourite player over the last few years. Essential in the title victory, the only player who didn't look bad in the first half of last season and battled on through the season even with an injury.

I hope danny does great at chelsea. I can see him playing alongside Kanté and Hazard and winning another title. Sad to see him go but understand it and our owners made sure to get a decent fee and a good replacement in first.

I'm not saying it to be salty because I think he's been a great player for us overall but I still think it's a weird signing for Chelsea. Sell Matic and get Drinkwater......doesn't add up

"Leicester has been great for me"

this is is the only type of thanks to us from DD on Chelsea website. If there's nothing else anywhere then that's pretty bad form from him

Matic wanted regular first team football elsewhere and liked being under Jose i would guess.

DD on the other hand might not mind sitting on the bench and only getting 15 starts a season. Who knows.

Matic was a regular starter there though. He was keeping Fabregas out of the side

Can't say I'm that bothered that he has gone, he's a good player on his day but out of all of our 'stars', he's the one we can replace and hopefully have with a combination of Silva and Iborra. I think shakey has realised we need to keep the ball better and not go for the Hollywood ball over the top. He should be thanked for his time here.

Cant see it going well for him at Chelsea though.

So called 'bigger clubs' have been cherry picking players since football came into being. There's nothing new there.

It just reiterates once more that there is no loyalty in football. The whole thing is a myth.

Do I blame Drinkwater for leaving? No, I guess not. He'll be playing with better players and earning much more money. They are all geeedy fookers at the end of the day. This rubbish about 'only having a short career'..well let's have it right, just ONE season in the Prem these days and these players are made for life.

I do fear for us a little though. Drinkwater was the engine of the team following Kante's departure. We'll have to see how we get on without him.

The problem for our club is that the players know they will never reach the same heights again at Leicester City. That is always going to make some of them restless. I'm just delighted we still have Vardy and can't help but be happy we still have Mahrez. As soon as Chelsea showed interest in DD, I think we all knew this conclusion was inevitable.

Thanks Danny and all the best.

How Danny Drinkwater has sold for more than Kante I will never know

Here's a clue:

Begins with 'R', ends with 'e' and has 'elease claus' in between.

A bitter pill to swallow really, been a key player for us over the years. I don't think any LCFC fan would have predicted him to go in this window. Part of me hopes he rots away at Chelsea, after telling us fans that he was committed to the club until retirement.
