As much as I am a Fuchs fan and realise Chilwell's defensive frailties, I do think we must play chilly, need to give a chance for English talent to progress and get games. No good him sittting on the bench every week, a better brain and positioning will come with game time

He needs to be sent out on loan. Defensively he is no where near ready..... face up and tracking he is okay, however ask him to defend anything in the air and he is no better than Schlupp.... position ally he is inexperienced and that shows badly. Fuchs is a master st dovetailing players and acting almost as a sweeper at times... he’s far superior to Ben at this stage, in fact he is a hell of a lot better than people give him credit for.

like any adventuring full back he leaves himself open at times but he is rarely at fault for goals.

I’m in two minds about Ben, defensively he should have it already, it should be instinctual and at this stage it isn’t... he needs to be playing week in week out.

Fuchs all the way for me.

I think this is right. The lad has clear attacking ability, and some tenacity when defending, but he makes very dangerous mistakes in and around the box. Not talking about tough situations like that Salah header, sometimes the fwd gets breakfast in bed, but unforced errant passes and a lack of respect for possession in our third of the field have me wanting to see him go out on loan as well. Preferably someplace in Serie A.

However.

We need to improve our MF significantly before he goes. Sure, we are adding Silva no later than January, which is the earliest we can send him out... but we won't know right away whether Silva is enough. Honestly, I almost think we are better off with Mendy, we need someone who covers major ground defensively AND  someone who threads the seeing-eye pass to our wings or fwds. Silva goes hard on defense, but his true strength is attacking and sending players on profitable runs. Not sure he will solve our midfield problems. Though of course, the Mendy ship has sailed for now.

If we cannot solve our MF getting overrun, we need to change formations, and Chilwell is probably our best wingback. So if we move him, we need to look into adding an elite wingback. Perhaps we can do with a makeshift stopgap in January, maybe an aging elite player in decline but who still can put in a good 60 minutes -- I say that bc prices for wingbacks may well be mad in January -- but come the summer, we need to sign an elite young wingback, someone who would not be out of place at Arsenal, but who has the work rate of Albrighton and the defensive ability of, say, a Danny Simpson, while giving us 15-20 goals per season.

That is asking a lot, I know, but that is the one obvious area of the team to improve, and that is where we spend the $30 mill we eventually will settle for with Mahrez. Add another 10-15 to that, we will get a real player, even at today's prices.

This contest is surely over now. The young and ever-improving Chilwell is already well ahead of Fuchs, would be scandalous if he lost his place now.

Fuchs is still decent but is not the player he was, Chilly on the other hand keeps on improving and will get better with experience but he will have off days but the left back position is good for us.

Chilwell is a bit more dynamic moving up the pitch, but as far as decisions with the ball he can only aspire to Fuchs atm.

Fuchs is solid and can be a clever player.

Chilwell makes mistakes he doesnt need to at the back. Gets us into trouble and makes Kasper nervous.

His only real plus atm is his athleticism and ability to charge up the pitch. Not quite outweighing fuchs  as a starter yet, but potentially could very soon if he stops being dodgy at the back

Chilly has two areas he really needs to improve on. One is his crossing, he rarely seems to beat the first man and secondly seems to make some random decisions in defence which could cost us goals. Fuchs is a better player but his form has been poor for a while, so there's currently little between the two. Puel will probably want Chilly's dynamism against weaker teams and Fuchs defensive stability against tougher teams.

Chilwell hands down for me now. Better going forward and his weaknesses aren't exactly something Fuchs has covered himself in glory on this season. He looked accomplished against Burnley. Really impressed me.

The Fuchs of last season was a much better defender when comparing him to chilwell but this season he has been just as hit and miss as Chilwell can be.

I find it odd that Chilwell wins almost every header from a Schmeichel goal kick aimed in his direction but defending corners he's woeful

He has one hell of a leap on him too!

Attacking I can't fault him either the only part of his game that lets him down in the final third slightly is his crossing! Fuchs is a much better crosser of the ball.

His ability to run past 2/3 players with ease reminds me a lot of Bale before he was pushed further up the pitch.

As much as I like Fuchs (when he's in form) It's hard to disagree with that after yesterday's game. It's a joy to watch Chills running between opposition players in their half, this immediately creates an advantage for us. Obviously it's risky when he loses the ball it leaves our left flank exposed but I'd rather if he took the risk trying to create something than keep passing the ball back or sideways. As for being unable to win a header when defending a corner, sadly, he's not the only one of our defenders to struggle with it.

I would say Chilwell seems to be making Kasper a bit nervous with his dodgy choices on the ball at the back.  I still would pick Fuchs in the bigger games, but Chilwell needs to be bled into the team over this season, sort out the basics at the back and be our LB for next season

Pretty sure there was only one time Chilwell passed in back to Kasper when he shouldn't have. Otherwise I think his tracking and blocking of crosses is really good. The Burnley right winger kept cutting really far back onto his left foot because he couldn't beat Chilwell on his right.

So glad Puel has made the change. it's been needed for a long time. chilwell is only going to get better.

Yesterday he was better than Fuchs has been for 2 years.

Even if Fuchs is better, Fuchs is getting older. And Chilwell ain't going to improve on the bench.

Pretty much this. I have doubts about him as a defender, but I think we’ve reached the point of

no return now. Only way to find out if he can grow into what we need is to play him.

Seems to always be caused by the refusal to use his right foot, needs to sort that out.

its Kasper's job to dominate that area and be in charge and tell Chilwell what he wants from him

Chilwell has been excellent over the last couple of games, and Fuchs has been pretty poor since he had that eye injury- nothing used to get past him, but he regularly gets caught the wrong side of his man at the moment.

Given that Chilwell offers much more going forward, he's the obvious choice. He might make the odd mistake in terms of his positioning, but that will fade out with experience. He's going to be some player in a couple of years!

For me it’s not a Fuchs vs Chilwell it’s more of a Fuchs & Chilwell they both have their pros and cons .I think we can all see Fuchs is slowly deteriorating but he is still better than Chilwell in some aspects and vice versus with Chilwell improving . So for me it’s more a case of picking and rotating  the correct one to play depending on opposition and tiredness etc . That way we faze Fuchs out and Chilwell gets valued experience before becoming our main left back .

A bit OTT for a small discrepency .Schmeichel doesnt do nervous...

Fuchs and Chilly shouldnt be compared, they are different players, who can hold their own,

in various situations...If Chilli is the new kid on the block, so be it...

Fuchs as no family ties to Leicester, it is no secret hes in his last 2-3 seasons of high level football. He has been and still is a great servant to club and team.

I for one refuse to play one off against the other, its a luxury a think we should enjoy as long as it runs..Natural movement ,and personal at the time needs, will see this topic, see it take its

own course natural turn around.Appreciate both still in a city shirt while it lasts......
