Maybe it's his system, maybe it's him, maybe it's bad luck and they're all out of form at the same time but if most of your signings look shite, you have to take the bulk of the responsibility (I'm aware you said he had to take some of the blame). Maybe it's just a gut feeling but I don't want him. Gut feeling for me is that I don't want Pellegrini, so I get that. I think Koeman's biggest mistake was that he just really underestimated what a vital piece Lukaku was in that Everton side, and overestimated what Rooney would bring - that is definitely his failing. But like I've said - his record at Everton last season, and at Southampton before that, is generally good. And if you look beyond this season he's also signed some very good players and gotten them playing well - Gueye, Williams, Schneiderlin, Calvert-Lewin for Everton, Mane and Van Dijk for Southampton. They had a tough start this season and they've had to bed-in so many new players while trying to compensate for the loss of Lukaku... It was a bit of a perfect storm really. I think Keane, Pickford, Sigurrdson, Vlasic etc will go on to have good careers for Everton and we would definitely have taken them here. Klaassen, admittedly, doesn't look up to much. Who knows? The owners will appoint who they think is best at the end of the day, and they're usually pretty astute when it comes to bringing new managers in. We'll see!

I'd prefer Dyche, I really would.
norwichfox Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 Can we just employ him for Sundays game, as I guess he'd have a point to prove....and then he can fcuk right off after we've won.....

I can't help but agree with some others on here though that he thinks he's better than he is and therefore probably 'bigger' than us. One thing for sure, it won't be me. I said Man U had put out a starting 11 in a game last season that wouldn't frighten anyone and they were 3-0 up in 25 minutes Can't remember who against.

Sambiasso Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 Surprised how many don't want him, He does look totally knackered though so a few months away would be the best option. Shame the Cockroach is still DoF here, would take a Dyche/Walsh pairing but can see it happening at Everton before us. Everton is a bigger and more attractive outfit than us, I don't think you'll see Manchini, Tuchel, Ancelotti ect ruling themselves out from the get-go.
Captain... Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 Koeman has been superb for Everton and Swansea until the start of this season. The recruitment has been poor, some good signings in Keane Pickford and Gylfi but the failed to address the hole left by Lukaku who bailed them out time and again. Williams is a busted flush and the likes of Baines and Jagielka can't be relied upon anymore injuries haven't been kind but nothing excuses some of the limp displays. There are some really promising youngsters at Everton, Davies, Holgate, Calvert Lewin but too much is being required of them in a struggling side. The question is how much of that Koeman's fault? How much has someone like Rooney turning up disrupted a dressing room? Do we want a manager on the way down? No. Do we want a manager with experience of being successful in this league and with something to prove?
lancyclaret Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 Hope we can hang on to SD at least until the end of season but cannot see him turning down the Everton job if offered it. With Leicester or West Ham (if Bilic gets the axe this week) I think Dyche may think "the owners are too quick to pull the trigger".
Lovejoy Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 I actually think Koeman could be decent for us, IF he doesn't try and kill our attack in the same way he has Everton's. Two good years at Southampton and decent last year for Everton, if he can replicate that he'd do well. Not exactly sold given the turgid football his Everton side have served up, but could do worse.

Edingleyfox Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 Oddly enough seems to have had the same recruitment issues as Shakespeare even with Walsh leading it.Ultimately they relied too much on Lukaku and failed to replace him. I think he does have a very good record and he is in at 20/1 on Skybet. Would like to know a little bit more about the Everton situation before going for him.His confidence must be low and I would like to know how well he interacts with the players. Dyche number one for myself might be more difficult now .

It's a misconception though that Everton are more reasonable as a club than say Leicester or West Ham are, it's just as they are perceived a bigger club/sleeping giant that it's ok for them to bin off under performing managers. Martinez was booted out only 18 months ago, we've obviously canned two managers in that time but West Ham have resisted pulling the trigger even though they were largely poor last season. We are vilified in the media now for daring to remain ambitious even though what most of these plebs fail to realise is we'd have never won the league in the first place as a small club if we didn't have the burning desire or belief to break the mould. The fact we did when everyone else said we wouldn't shows we won't back down in our intentions to succeed. The hypocrisy in the media is outrageous.

Everton played some incredible football last season, Koeman's natural style isn't a defensive style of play it's just he's found himself in a situation where he's no proven striker and very little pace throughout the team. It's his own fault but it doesn't change that he is a manager who when he gets it right, the football is great to watch.

Fox92 Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 Get him in. Did great job at Southampton getting them 6th and 5th - they are similar to us with, I imagine, similar ambitions.

Everton have just pulled the plug after giving their manager £180m... I'm not sure they are any better at giving time than any other team that hits the bottom three.
