His wife said (about Christmas time last year) that she didn't like England because while she was learning English it was hard work and she knew no one. She also said Claude wasn't learning much (possibly any) because he was too busy working. He is the kind of person who would have spent some of the last few months working on his English though. Mind you he said Southampton reminded him of Nice and Nathan Redmond was the new Thierry Henri.
Mullet1 Posted 25 October 2017 Posted 25 October 2017 The owners have clearly gone for someone they believe will deliver us mid table finishes for a couple of years. (Stability) Problem is some of our better players may get frustrated and go
enmac Posted 25 October 2017 Posted 25 October 2017 Given that we won the premier title sorry but this has to be the worse appointment we ever made maybe after Frank Mclintock. No, can't agree!FM was truly awful. Maybe even worse than Taylor. RELEGATION!Didn't he sell Wortho, who then went to score goal of the season? From his record Puel han not had any disasters.Sent from my Fusion5_108 (16GB) using Tapatalk

It takes decades to establish yourself as a top, top club, not overnight success.

M0901 Posted 25 October 2017 Posted 25 October 2017 Best of luck Claude! I for one will back him every day during his tenure. There were a few scratched heads about Ranieri so we'll see what happens!

Stats cannot be taken without context. Did Southampton not lose some very good players between these to sets of stats? Including Mane who would be the best player for most teams outside the top 6? Not saying he will do well but if you want to "throw shade" at least back it up with more relevant info. I genuinely feel sorry for anyone joining our club. What happened to giving people a chance? X
Tuna Posted 25 October 2017 Posted 25 October 2017 He obviously has something about him given the fact he got the Southampton job in the first place, they don't piss about and make many mistakes, so I'm alarmed by the way he was binned off as soon as the season ended, as if they couldn't wait to get rid of him after what on paper wasn't a bad season by any stretch. He'll be desperate to prove himself and probably feels quite disappointed with not getting much of a chance at Southampton having only had one season, so we're getting someone hungry and determined. We need as a football club to move on. Too many players who have been here for too long and need moving on. I don't think Shakespeare could make these decisions due to his over familiarity with the players. Look at the ludicrous decision to give Ulloa, who is essentially retired, a new contract. If Puel can make us a better outfit and more attractive as part of a 2 - 3 year plan introducing younger players them I'm all for it. It's just, well...such a vanilla appointment...almost random...reminds me of us getting Claudio, and look how that turned out !!!
foxtillidrop Posted 25 October 2017 Posted 25 October 2017 All the very best to Claude! Welcome to LCFC! We'll only be able to tell after a few games - hope he can get us keeping clean sheets and get the best out of Mahrez and Vardy. Most importantly, I think Okazaki has to start.
Nick Posted 25 October 2017 Posted 25 October 2017 Sadly Claude will not be able to fulfil the role until January as all 14 pages of his contract terms required initialling before filing with the FA and LMA. Appleton has already moved on earlier this afternoon so we are now 'Rudderless' - well sort of, sadly.

I think you'll find the prevailing national opinion is that he was a ditchwater dull, negative tactician who delivered fewer goals, points and fun than his predecessor. But your words will bring comfort to those here who like to live in denial or are cranial trauma victims - so thank you for that small mercy. I question whether you can actually read. Try putting my words into context and understand I was commenting on his cup run. I wrote, "He got us (Saints) to our first major final in decades and played some great football in doing so. . ." Saints were the first team not to concede any goal up to the final and yes I went to the cup games and yes we did play some great football. It was a pity he couldn't replicate that for us in the PL but he might be able do that for Leicester.

Bob666 Posted 25 October 2017 Posted 25 October 2017 Looking forward to seeing Claude prove us wrong with his so-called uninspiring appointment. Welcome

TIme for Replacement Claude to step in: „If your milk goes stale, don‘t put it back in the fridge“.
Foxtock Posted 25 October 2017 Posted 25 October 2017 I would have preferred Howe, but that was never going to happen. It's Puel that's got the nod, so I'll back him. Good luck.

bridport007 Posted 25 October 2017 Posted 25 October 2017 When I was a kid, my old man would say..."It's neither arsehole nor watercress" and has always been a mystery what he meant. I kind of get it now. Hope this goes well ...underwhelmed though.

Vulpine Victor Posted 25 October 2017 Posted 25 October 2017 Totally underwhelmed. If this is the best the owners and Rudkin can do we should have kept faith with Shakespeare and Appleton. They obviously panicked and had not looked at possible replacements before acting. The appointment is a complete disappointment. Despite this I will support him as I would any City manager or player.
