Was vehemently opposed to the dismissal of CP - not because he encouraged spectacular football or gave captivating interviews, but because as far as I was concerned 8th (albeit the lowest ever points total for 8th), Wembley and beating Inter Milan was a decent chapter in what had been - until your mob came along - quite a good rags to riches story. Realistically not sure what clubs of our means are supposed to expect beyond top half and a flirt with silverware. Wish the ever-pragmatic CP well and, as much as I didn't enjoy being chased all the way back to Leicester station in 2001, good luck in the other 36 games this season... I think a lot of folk are getting caught up in the "boring football" suggestion. Many a Saints fan brought that up to be fair. That being said, many a Foxes fan brought up a top ten finish as a good thing. Oh, and a decent cup run..
Kinowe Soorie Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Could be decent! Very good record in France

st albans fox Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 I have a feeling that this fella showed the owners and rudkin various ways (in some detail) of setting up our players to perform effectively which is something we haven't done since we won the league. Yes we beat Sevilla over two legs but the home tie was won on intensity alone which they couldn't cope with. You can't be 'successful' in the prem just with that recipe. clealry the people that own our club cannot work work out how spending all this money has led to a team performing way worse than two years ago. so we can assume that we will see changes once CP gets his feet under the table. What won't have been easy to show is the way he will deal with the characters in that dressing room. How he will cope with ruffled feathers etc etc. we all realise that a good tactical football brain should be able to get good results here but that's only half the battle - the game Is played in the head aswell and that's the part which concerns me. however, the retention of Appleton is intended to help in that regard. It seems from bein that CP asked Collins to join as assistant ....... was that in addition to MA or instead ???? i don't expect to see much change for Everton as too soon so if we play the way we have been and things don't go well then that's not a reason to beat the new guy with a stick! hopefully the players commit to his philosophy (if they continue to win games then should be easy).
David Hankey Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 As we're only allowed to post "positive" comments on this particular post - let's wait and see!!
Dorchester Fox Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Last season's league game at Southampton.. I would have much rather been supporting a 'boring' team winning 3-0 rather than the relegation-threatened dross that we were under Ranieri...
RODNEY FERNIO Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Underwhelmed but can anybody honestly predict how it is going to pan out ? I know I can't. The thing Puel has going for him is that he's taking on a decent squad ... better than the squads Everton and Southampton have. A squad that's probably only 2-3 signings away from being really decent ( we already have one of those .. shame he can't play yet.). We have really good options in attack so maybe he won't be as negative as thought. So we'll just have to suck it and see.

Nope, a lot of the time all managers need a slice of luck for things to work out. Right group of players, right signings, right owners, right backroom team, someone who looks a bit underwhelming on the surface (Pearson, Ranieri), with the right ingredients, some of their own making and some not, can work wonders. Poch is clearly a great manager, but where would Spurs be if he'd not lucked out a bit and got Kane come through the ranks? Probably not doing much more than spurs did between 09-10 and 12-13, finishing 4th and 5th every year. As Everton have found, those sorts of goal numbers are almost irreplaceable for a team with their spending power. It's a bit underwhelming, but who nobody knows what might happen.

Sorry you had a not so nice experience in Leicester. Those chasing you had probably got old and fat since the 80's and had no chance of catching you (unlikely they just wanted to shake your hand)

Gerard Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Puel wouldn't have been my first choice but I'm reasonably happy about it as he very much sounds like his own man and we desperately needed someone to come in with new ideas and not already influenced by the dressing room. I watched the League Cup final last season and Southampton dominated Man Utd and the best team definitely didn't win. If he can get us playing like that then he'll do for me.

foxy boxing Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 i'm just interested to see how he does and really hope it works out.he's here so give him a chance, see what develops and hope for the best. i just want him to get the team playing in a positive way that shows how good we can be. preferably i'd like him to be able to play different styles of football and not just counter attacking.

dedlock Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 His record suggests that he will bring a greater tactical awareness that has been lacking, particularly under Shakey. We will also, hopefully, become tighter defensively than we have been in the last season and a bit.
FoxinNotts Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Just seen Souness give his opinion on the appointment. He thinks it's a good one. I like Souness, he tends to talk a lot of sense (all be it, in quite an aggressive and holier than thou way). He thinks Southampton treated him badly.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Come on Claude! I think he can be the tactically astute and measured yin to our team's gung-ho yang, or the yang to our yin
Phube Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Not read this whole thread but French footy journalist Julien Laurent had some very good things to say about him. Especially that he takes a season to steady a club get them as high as possible (results only) then kicks on with more expansive football in subsequent seasons.
steve43 Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 I think this is going to be an exellent appointment, souness has just said that Puel had to sell his strikers at southampton, then blamed because they could not score! we have got great attacking ability, with his guidance who knows where we can go
Vocey Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 Can’t wait for Monsieur Claude to work his magic. Get us solid at the back, get the best out of Riyad and then look at making us more possession based. Positive vibes! Allez les Renards!!
Lovejoy Posted 26 October 2017 Posted 26 October 2017 I'm looking forward to seeing him introduce youth more. The time is right for someone to really take the likes of Chilwell, Gray and others under their wing and make them men. Puel has a track record for introducing the younger players more than we've had and I hope he will do so again.
