@Alf Bentley and @leicsmac I'm not talking about manning up or stoicism, I didn't mean it that way, I meant being helped to feel like they are normal and feeling these things are not weird and there is nothing wrong with them and they can live their life as they please without having to transition.

I appreciate that you weren't saying anything as simplistic as "man up" - and that you'd want people to receive more help so as to be able to express their true selves without having to transition.

However, young people facing these issues have to face them now - and, with the best will in the world, there will still be a lot of hostility to transgender people for many years to come, even if social attitudes hopefully improve.

Attitudes to gay people have improved a lot over the past 50 years, but are still very far from perfect - and nobody can afford to wait 50 years. In the meantime, it would take quite exceptional courage to boldly stand out from the crowd as someone with a very different gender identity and happily face down all hostility - especially at a young age. So, I can see why transition (with appropriate safeguards) might be the best option for many transgender people in the real world right now.

I'll draw another comparison: the victims of the sex abuse scandals, be that Savile, Weinstein or whoever. For decades nobody, victims or witnesses, found the courage to put their heads above the parapet - and some of them were mature, powerful people. So, the chances of young people finding that exceptional courage, when their confidence may already have been undermined by abuse, are pretty slim, I'd say.

Anyway, I think I've said enough in this thread now - particularly for someone who's really pretty clueless about the whole issue! Thanks to Brucey for the (partial) education.

No, but it's not because I think less of them as people. It's just not for me.

That said, if someone wants to - why should I care? Trans people are just as deserving of my respect as anyone else I meet - it's certainly not a comment on character, etc.

So mods, it seems that there is some value to having a thread to discuss trans related stuff.

Can we then retitle this thread or start another, losing the stupid and offensive poll which was only blindly designed in an attempt to prove some kind of trollic logic?

Either a man or a woman simple as that, I voted no, someone who chops their cock off clearly isn't mentally sound

.... but somebody who acquires one is?

Give over. Had you had your way you would have shut the thread down immediately as you didn't want to read opinions you didn't agree with, like many things, the orginal "provocation" has created a decent thread, I've certainly enjoyed reading it and have learnt a few things.

But don't now claim the subject is valuable and you want to talk about when you tried to censor it in the first place.

I actually admire that you are honest about your attempts to shut down opinions you don't agree with, you have always been consistent on that and you don't hide it like many do but don't then come out with this and tag three people who aren't even mods in what looks like a very bizarre act of virtue signalling.

I’m open to dialogue Matt but the manner in which you started this thread and the narratives of your posts that run through it are only about proving your prejudice views at any cost.

The cost in this case has been to cause others harm so you can feel smug.

Im happy for safe places to discuss anything but that wasn’t the purpose of your thread as you well know.

Im done engaging with you on this, because you’re approach has only ever been about you, insular and screw the consequences of what it might mean for anybody else. But it serves at least to once again show you up for deep down what you are and every day attempt to hide with well crafted rhetoric.

Edit: The three people tagged in for ‘virtue signalling’ are simply a copy in to the first people that came to mind who may possess the skills to start a new thread without its roots in the spirit of being a massive bastard.

I'd be happy to discuss such matters in another thread or on this one, though as it's not an experience I have personally lived my own take on the matter will be limited by that.

I wouldn't want to start another thread, not least as I'm pretty ill-informed about this subject (though a bit less so after reading some contributions to this thread).

Personally, I don't find either the title or the poll offensive, just a bit of a gimmick, but the opinions of those directly affected by the issue would matter more than mine.

Tbh, I'm not sure that the poll proves anything we didn't know. I doubt that it will surprise anyone, particularly transsexuals, that most non-transsexuals cannot imagine getting into a relationship with a transsexual.

While a few of the people who voted "No" will be bigots or immature/insecure people, I presume most will be tolerant people expressing a personal response to a challenging hypothetical scenario. Maybe I'm being naive, but I hope not - and I hope that the thread has challenged assumptions in a few people. It has challenged my assumptions, I'd say. Anyway, enough....

So this vulture, presumed being a male by many, has shocked them by laying an egg?..

Shame the process from male to female for humans is much more complex..

I mean, thats not male to female, thats just a zoo keeper very bad at sexing vultures.  Plenty of animals, particularly fish, do swap between the two mind - best is a species of snail where iirc two blokes fight and try to stab each other, bloke who gets stabbed becomes a woman: any holes a goal?

It’s like when me and my roommate used to fight over who did the pots, the loser wore the apron and marigolds.

I’ve never heard it called that before.

Freedom of speech doesn't really apply to a private forum. Even in public there's obviously boundaries of what you can and can't say.

Yet some have more freedom than others it seems.

Without seeing them, I couldn't possibly judge.

But the double standards on here were plain to see long before DT posted.

You and the rest of the far left mob on here talk nonsense all day, and congratulate yourselves for it, without censorship. Just because you don't like someone else's opinion, doesn't make you the judge of its validity and furthermore its position on the forum.

I respect the mods on here and understand that Mark can choose entirely at his leisure what is acceptable or not. I don't think there is any evidence that this is unfair.

This thread has engaged many different posters with different views, including yourself and you have been free to join in. Whatever you feel the intention of the thread was is irrelevant as what has become of it is, for the most part, healthy.

Whenever something controversial pops up, you and the other usual suspects are first on the scene spouting buzzwords and being short with other posters, intentionally or unintentionally, with differing views. This of course is fine and you are more than entitled to do so as you please. However if you are unable to tolerate it from the other side, perhaps you need to reevaluate whether debating and trying to change someone's views to align with your own, is really something for you.

Well at least we're singing from the same hymn sheet at least once.
