All players play for themselves after all it is their career and they all want the best career they can but within that they also play the best they can for the team and the manager so they stay in the team for themselves. Fuchs is only saying what every player does.

Find him quite irritating as of late.

Think he needs to go in the Summer. Dont think he would be that bothered either, as he is pretty much in New York and trying to sell tshirts most of the week.

Only if they pay him his next years wages, no real benefit for the club.

As for  "I play for myself, not my coach or my team-mates" it was probably a comment said in a long interview that the journo has picked up on to make a headline.

Frankly can't see anything wrong with it surely that's what every working person does first of all, if they then enjoy what they do and feel it contributes to the greater good then that's a bonus that not many people get.

Unless it can be argued that he is in breach of contract.

He’s probably only saying what other players are thinking but haven’t got the balls to say in public.

He is right !!! If you are doing it for you then everything else falls into place.

Some foreigners are abit weird like that, i personally think he's quite cringey on social media.

....if you are doing it for you, then when your needed to cover as a team mate has been beaten to a ball and the opposition is on a break the thing to do would be to put yourself in a position to thwart the break. if you are doing it for yourself then you don't put yourself out as someone else has made a mistake and it is not your fault and no reason to put yourself out.

Football is a team game and the team comes first. You back up your team mates and you win our lose together. I would be surprised if N'golo Kante ,N'didi, Beardsley or Iniesta claims they play for themselves.

I love Fuchs. One of my favourite players at the club. He may not be good enough anymore but he's still a bit of a cult hero of mine.

That said, if Gray had come out with that quote then this thread would be 10 pages with vitriol and name calling of the guy. But because it's someone else people try to rationalise it and put it into context.

If only everyone could be less foreign, that's what's wrong with the world. Bloody foreigners.

Me too but that comment has annoyed me slightly. The difference between him and Gray though is Fuchs was a major part of us winning the title and can get away with a lot more. Imagine if Gray did a Mahrez assuming someone wanted to buy him..... The other thing with Gray is he has not made the most of his raw talent yet which is really frustrating and he never seems to give 100% on the pitch Ditto Nacho. Players can get away with a lot more if they are 100% committed. Nugent (in the prem) Was and even Lloyd Dyer are all thought of really highly but none of them had anywhere near the raw talent that Gray or Nacho have. But they all gave their all on the pitch. Gray has been class for England U21's so there's a top player there talent wise but for us, he has been poor so far. If raw talent was everything Ravel Morrison would be world class and starting in the world cup. Instead, he's playing somewhere in Mexico and looking to play for Jamaica. Gray is still young but he needs to step up quickly.

Probably should go in the unpopular opinions thread, but I really don't like him. All this no fuchs given bollocks really ****s me off, he comes across like a yank more often than not

Obviously I like all players that won us the top flight but I've been undecided on him for at least a season and a half now. He was strong when we won the league, as they all were, but there have been plenty of times he's been at fault for goals. Way more than Simpson, who I think is a better defender than Fuchs yet gets more criticism.

I guess there's a reason for that because for many Gray gives the impression on the pitch that he is playing for himself where as Fuch's doesn't and who's shown himself to be a committed team player both on and off the pitch.

Gray's public persona, not that it's necessarily accurate is mostly about him and why he's not in the starting squad and not being in the full England squad seemingly wanting to run before he's show to many LCFC fans that he can walk.

Every footballer (or sportsman) plays for themselves first and foremost. From the absolute noob to the super pro. So there is nothing Fuchs said worth any fuss about.

By playing we all want to fullfill a form of self-satisfaction. How it translates on the pitch is another matter.

The thing that really shit  me was when he sprayed Claudio with champagne on his most glorious day.

W.t.f was all that about?

Felt for Claudio, addressing the world's media, made us look like a semi pro team that had got into the league, the weird twat!!!

I met him about 5 days after Ranieri got sacked. He came for dinner with my university team (organized by the Vice Chancellor, a friend of his) and I was asking about if he wanted Shakespeare to get the job or someone else and if he was sad about Ranieri.

He made the fair point that he's been managed by about 30 managers in his career and that he just doesn't care anymore. Don't think his honesty should be scrutinized tbh.
