Personally think he's an ideal signing. He's a left footed inside forward so replaces Mahrez in that aspect. Remember him looking good at Chelsea and with age on his side anything under £20 mil would be good business.

Hard to see how we're going to get someone who can replicate Mahrez so probably worth spreading it on 2 or 3 players at £20 mil a pop.

13 goals, 4 assists for Lyon last season, 4 goals in 9 Europa League games too.

Someone who could assist a bit better would be more ideal but I guess we gave Maddison and Albrighton for that.

Definitely more keen on this than on Roberts and Grealish combined.

This. Traore has had a few impressive loan spells and has played first team football in France and the Netherlands where he delivered a good account of himself. Even when he came back to Chelsea and played for a period (season we won the league) he looked decent. On top of that he has experience playing in European competition and international level. I'd be very satisfied with this.

What does FT's Dof (Sheppyfox) think??

At least give the man a chance to watch 40 seconds of a highlights reel before he makes a judgement.

Powerful and skillful player, totally different to Mahrez but he'd do well here.

Ismaila Sarr is like that too, he looked decent for Senegal.

Highly unlikely Chelsea would trigger it unless they want to buy him to sell him on for quick profit.

Given their managerial situation and the fact Abramovic is tightening the purse strings, I can't see much movement there.

As part of the deal they might insist on us taking Drinkwater back!

Seems incredibly one-footed based on what I’ve seen

That being said I still wouldn’t mind him at Leicester, seems like the right kind of signing to replace Mahrez with

Wonder whether that means we're going for more creativity and ball distribution from central attacking midfield in the shape of Maddison (or Silva), with both left and right winger to pump up and down on each flank with speed (and skill), instead of qualities embodied by a player like Mahrez.

Underwhelmed tbh - in the prem I just see him going forward with the ball and losing it 8/10 times.

Mahrez last season - successful take ons: 78 out of 149 (52.35%) - I.e. Lost it nearly 5/10 times. Losing the ball regularly is to be expected of a winger who takes people on - it's higher risk play and comes with the territory, same with passing - Morgan's pass completion percentage is comparable to De Bruyne and Hazard (83% each, Morgan 81%), because he plays lower risk passes compared to Hazard and De Bruyne despite those two obviously being better ball players than him.

40 seconds?? Our scouting Team only watch 10 before giving the green light.

Wise words! Totally agree with you. There will always be an element of chance about signings like this, but that's to be expected with the fee involved. There is a reason why clubs like Man City pay a premium for the finished article.

Or we could get a cut-price PL proven player like Shaqiri?

Was dead set against him initially but I’m coming round. It’s a deal at c £12M which carries no financial risk for us, and with Maddison, we could replace Riyad’s assists, creativity & goals with 2 players costing about 50% of what we’ll receive for Riyad.

Someone on here might actually tell us what Shaqiri’s goals & assists for the last two seasons were...?

Looking at the video on the previous page I think he'd struggle to replicate that form in the PL. He seems to start most of his moves by turning a player, but that's because the opponent's are far too tight.

In the PL they'll either sit off and let him take a touch then move in on the second and third touches, or they'll apply a gegenpress approach of trying to win the ball on the first phase, and if that fails having a second man to press the second phase. Either way he won't get the freedom on the ball that he shows in that video so he'll need to be capable of stepping up a gear if he does make a move to the PL.
