Soyuncu

Johnson

Benny

Long term investment. Wes is in the last year of his contract and Celtic will provide an excellent stepping stone including Europa League.

Don’t forget Armarty and Fuchs can also play there

He'd languish in the U23s or on the bench. Regular playing time at a massively supported club like Celtic, who are in the Champs League, will be excellent for him.

Morgan and Benalouane's contracts both expire next summer. He's a replacement for them obviously. Maguire, Evans, Soyuncu and Morgan is good for this season.

He’d been linked to other (better) sides and we’ve signed before we had a greater need for a centre back due to expiring contracts. Sending him on loan to Celtic will get him adjusted to a more stylistically similar league playing under a coach with a good track record of development.

It’s excellent business from us, since Macia’s been settled our recruitment has been commendable, looks as though we’ve finally banished the demons of the 2016 window.

One of the most highly rated young centre backs in the world who didn't cost a fortune. Better buy him now than let another club get hold of him. Just needs some time to develop.

I think it's a perfectly acceptable question to ask. We are signing a player who will offer us no value on the pitch at all this season, and the OP is questioning why.

But as others have said, he's one for the future and the development team want him to get regular games before becoming part of the main squad next season. You could argue that some of our other young signings such as Gray and Kapustka should have had the same treatment as in Kapustka's case especially, they have gone backwards rather than developing. Gray has since come of age, but I felt that it's taken him longer than it should have done, which may not have been his fault.

Under Rogers, Celtic play passing football and pass it out from the back, and they have European football. It's also quite a physical league, so it's a great club to go to for a bedding in period, especially as they just lost one of their defenders so is almost guaranteed first team playing time.

You'd then expect he comes back next year and takes Morgan's place in the squad. With the buys we've made, we should even be OK if Maguire leaves and Morgan retires, as we'd have Benkovic, Soyuncu and Evans all ready. So all in all for once I think this has been quite well planned by the club. There's clearly a multi-year strategy in place and I'd argue it's already producing results. I think our best players this season have all been the younger players. Even Ricardo is just 24 and has hit the ground running.

Buy a prospect, call him shit (Which we've not done on this occasion tbf), send him out on loan (And more often than not sell him after a few years).

Brilliant call if it does go through imo. We've signed a young up and coming CB that other big teams will have wanted, sent him out to gain valuable experience in the league and in Europe, and then hopefully he'll be able to slot into or fight for a starting place next year when Morgan and Benny are gone.

Superb and shrewd piece of business.

And Maguire?  He’ll be gone too I imagine.

I think we should have done something similar with Kapustka.

I have some sympathy for him, we took a promising young full international and dropped him into a league he wasn’t ready for, dumped him into the under 23’s, then half baked loan deals. We’ve not helped him.

Nothing worse than a half baked little cabbage!
