So many positives. The nature and timing of their goals are disappointing but they are a very good side and for the majority I thought we matched and even bettered them.

Mendy MOTM. Sublime

What did we learn today?

1) We’re not far off the pace.

2) Gray isn’t a striker, no matter how much Puel seems to keep hoping he is.

Or an awful touch by Wes Morgan in the middle of the box. Or a great block by Joe Gomez to deny Maddison - against a team that until this game still hadn't conceded a goal.

So we didn't have the quality to score of our own accord, is what you're saying?

Another shite start to the game hampered our chances. Completely on top second half and lots to be proud of.

The proof will be in the pudding as we play those around and below us.

Good effort by the boys....

Strange substitution, taking off Gray and Maddison for two players who struggle to find a blue shirts.

Even stranger selection of Gray up top over Nacho.

Nice football in the middle third, but no cutting edge, could’nt see us scoring without the mistake. Seem happy to sit deep even with 10 mins to go.

Club has massively under recruited in attacking areas!

Against the better defences? Not only had Liverpool not conceded before today but not ram had managed more than two shot on goal against them....

Yep, one of the better defences, and we only scored through a mistake. My point exactly.

Very encouraging performance and we were the better team for long periods.

Lots of promise in this team and keep playing like that and we will thump a few people this season.

Great stuff.

Christ almighty.

I weep at the state of our fans.

Although true, I'm afraid having to shift so many in that area was maybe why we weren't confident recruiting more.

Still baffled that we invested so heavily in defence, whilst we are still starting Morgan! - And, we didn't sign a striker. How on earth have we come out of a window and ended up with Gray starting as a sole striker against Liverpool. Very odd.

Can't wait for Vardy to come back, but Puel also needs to show more faith in Iheanacho. Should have started today.

The result is obviously bad, but I quite enjoy watching us again at the minute.

anyone who doesn't think we deserved to win that is a fool.

Ghezall already looks better than Mahrez, skillful, physical and plays defence.

Maddison is a gem - shame he can't go 90 minutes yet.

Gray did well up front.

Ben Chilwell was amazing again. MOTM

Hate to repeat myself but this Liverpool team ain’t conceded until today: we made it very difficult today and broke them down.

Top performance, some good efforts but it didn’t fall for us today. Ghezzal had a fantastic debut, Chilwell brilliant again, second half Chilwell, Maddison and Gray linked up wonderfully. Made one of the best teams in the world look ordinary today and there’s no disgrace in that loss. Looking better and better under Puel.

This is it. Look at Liverpool's defensive record since last November and you see they are really class defensive unit. It's quite clear they're a very good side, Champions League finalists tells you that. Pretty much all that side were involved in that too.

We played well, they were also not great on the day. But the signs are there, some individual performances are there but we've got a few things to work. We can be happy with that today bar the result.

Unfortunately some just can't wait to denounce us at any opportunity, lacking any real analysis of what's going on and struggling with nuance.
