OK.  Offensive to the 'people' as you put it that are criticising Puel (not me by the way) that you are arbitrarily attributing some kind of racism or Francophobia to.

 

Offensive to me as I find this kind of casual tossing around or implication of such unfounded assumptions endemic of this hateful 21st C. phenomena of virtue signalling. 

 

In a wider context the casual accusation of racism or the like can be career-ending.  Unless you have good grounds to say it, don't say it.  One of my pet hates I'm afraid.

Claude Puel has revealed that Caglar Soyuncu is yet to make his Leicester City debut because the centre-back’s lack of English is making it difficult to communicate with his team-mates.

The view of Puel seems more personal and nitpicking than the usual judgement on results, tactics, playing style. Far more is made of his accent, his press conferences than I can recall with other managers.

Please take note of my amendment. Small, but significant. Had I been wiser I'd have just said 'something crass/hateful' and it would have made the point better and avoided the misunderstanding.

To be honest, managerial interviews are rarely memorable or informative. The exceptions are notable. Nige and the ostrich interview for example...

A few points to address.

 

I don't have a major problem with Puel. Yes I have reservations about him as a manager, based on results/performances since mid-December along with things coming out of the dressing room, but I don't have a major problem with him. I'm generally a positive person but I have concerns and I air them. When Ranieri was manager during the difficult second season I defended him even though it was against my better judgement. I'd heard some negative stories from behind the scenes about Ranieri but publicly was supportive. I got accused of being "up the club's backside" and similar comments. Perhaps I was too positive then and perhaps I've been too negative now. I'm reasonable enough to accept that.

 

If we win matches I'm happy as Larry, whoever Larry is. The manager is just the temporary custodian of the team. I've said several times on here I'm desperate for Puel to succeed because if he does, the team is doing well. The team doing well is my main concern. However, it's right to express concerns if I have them. 

 

I'm not sure where this "gushing" about other Midlands clubs comes from. If a team is doing well - Midlands or otherwise - and I'm asked about them on the radio then of course I'm going to speak well of them. Equally if a club is struggling then I'll discuss that. If Derby or Forest for example were running away with the Championship and playing amazing football then it's my job on air to reflect that. Maybe that's something you don't understand which is fair enough.

I suspect if you trawl through my social media posts and listen to my radio comments about LCFC over the past 25+ years you'll see and hear a minimum 90% positivity about my club.

 

As I said, I want Puel to lead us to glory. I want any manager of ours to lead us to glory. But if something needs saying which doesn't fit into the blue tinted specs narrative then so be it.

 

It's just opinions. You and others have yours. I and others have mine. If we smash Newcastle 5-0 on Saturday I'll tweet how bloody pleased I am. My opinion is as valid or invalid as everyone else, no better no worse.
