It really would. I am surprised at how willing in my head I am to let Harry Maguire go, but I can't look past the fact that we could get a really good sum in for him to invest in our weaker areas. Obviously we would need Benkovic to come here in January for that to work which doesn't look likely.

 

For that reason I can't see us spending out that much until the summer...maybe just an attacking midfielder...

I've been reading the forum for ages now, and i keep thinking the same thing. I'm London based and for years lived around Charlton and knew many of their fans, and for 3 years i stewarded there. They got bored with mid table, and wanted to push on and challenge for Europe and other potential honours, but realistically they were as good as they were ever going to be. Look how that's turned out for them. I know that what we say on here has no reflection on the direction the club heads in, but the future is bright for us, what we achieved in 15/16 was amazing and in all probability will never be repeated by us or anyone like us. Challenging amongst the top half and aiming/hoping for a cup success is realistic (quarter/semi finals), beyond that probably isn't. We have a very young squad, and they need time and our patience to be allowed to grow, in my opinion CP is doing a reasonable job, i'd like him to be more dynamic, playing football like we did when he first arrived with us, but he's bringing through a good crop of young players and i'm happy for him to have time to develop them.

Or fans wanting a bit of cohesion, aggression, intensity...after a year of turgidity! (think I’ve just invented a word). 

 

Or, as a minimum, wanting to go and watch a team that doesn’t look like it absolutely hates the concept of football. 

 

I don’t particularly want Claude to be sacked, but I do want him to be better.

We had the exact same discussions the first year Pearson returned, we looked crap, it was boring and the same people were going over the top in their critisism, saying they'll never go again with him in charge... then we blitz the league.

 

Things can change quickly in football, sometimes it takes a while to change. Perhaps I'm just a bit more patient and accept that these things go in circles.

I agree with all this, it's called reality. Persistently wanting to sack the manager and buy yet more new players before we've offloaded some of our less successful one's is just pure fantasy football, the preserve of computer games and newspaper competitions. Real life and real football just isn't like that. There were Liverpool fans whining on the radio about Klopp yesterday,  yet they sit second in the league 3 points behind Man City and got into the champions league final last year! Klopp has had them since 2015 and inherited some problems. He spent nearly 18 months evaluating and giving chances to all his squad members before spending a substancial amount of money. 

 

Puel inherited a shit load of problems and we were sinking fast. He too has taken time to swop, change and evaluate his playing staff, some of whom he and we recognise are not up to it. Each dud represents big money in what we paid in fees, continue to pay in salaries and with some, their highly paid long contracts, well meaning at the time, because that was what was probably required to convince them to sign, now make them almost unsaleable. And, before anyone criticises that, how many times do we see on here people advocating 'gerrimin in' pay him what he wants?

 

We'd all whine if our season tickets went up a £100 but seem to expect our owners to shell out more and more without getting rid and recouping some losses first. Apart from one year, we've never had it so good as a club with its lack of debt, infastructure and promise for the future. Expectation, greed without any sense of reality seems to have gripped most clubs supporters these days and ours are no exception. As Babylon states, consistent high pace entertainment just doesn't occur at most clubs, to believe otherwise is pure fantasy. We're in a decent position in the top league, through to the next round of a cup with the second youngest squad in the Premiership I understand, some of these kids if we chose to get behind them rather than consistently criticise them are potentially quite exciting. Some people appear to want things to fail so they can just big themselves up with a huge 'I told you so' yet, the reality is, the law of averages dictates that it's the safest position to be in because all smaller clubs like us will eventually take a dip so it's not really that expert a prediction really is it. We've never had it so good.

Why not just throw him in the deep end like we did we Dragovic and see what he's really like. I mean, He's proven against S'oton that he's got no problem against the poorer clubs

I can understand that. I don't think Puel is helped when he picks Okazaki on his own up top, and moves Maddison to left midfield though. But I wouldn't say he plays a defensive way at all. Rather just too boring with loads of sideways + backwards passing.

Two evenly matched teams, two teams that have been hit and miss recently, this is a very hard game to predict.

 

Watford are a decent physical side, Doucoure and Capoue in the middle could easily boss us, Deeney always offers you a good challenge, I'd also be worried if they start Success over Deulofeu, his pace and power could easily kill us.

 

I'm feeling optimistic though purely because Watford have had some dodgy results of late, I just hope we can be more consistent and commit ourselves more when we are in good attacking positions.

 

2-1 win, Vardy & Gray.

Once we hit December, the crazy schedule means that games become a lot more about grinding out results than performances. Probably a good thing given how we are playing at the moment! Over the next 6 weeks it's about maximising the squad and picking up as many points as possible. It's a bit like the Championship where even draws are actually a point gained and not points lost in the overall context of things.

 

I think this will be a 1-1 draw personally, but it could go either way really.

I often wondered why last seson felt better than when we won the league ?

I dont think that last part concerns him, hes never really caved in and gone 3-4-1-2 which would have given a better balance to our disjointed defence. He persevered with attacking full backs and wingers and now Ricardo seems much more settled at right back.

 

He's quite unflinching in his ways, I think he's probably most frustrated at still not having the squad he wants. He'll say the squad is great but it's nowhere near befitting the style he advocates.
