Chilwell to Manchester City

Recommended Posts

Someone I know has a contact at Man City who says they are interested in Chilwell but apparently he's being advised to stay at Leicester to cement his England place. Would make a lot of sense as hes still young and learning and its not guarenteed he would play regularly at Man City if Mendy stays fit.

I think the interest is clear from Man City to be honest.

I think we will keep Chilly for the season & then we best hope for 2 things to keep hold of him the following year. Either 1) We qualify for Europe or 2) Mendy has an injury free season.

Agreed. We absolutely need to be playing in Europe to have any chance of keeping our best players long term.

If true, it's refreshing to know he isn't surrounded by arseholes.

Never has been started investing in property at the age of 19. Very very humble lad.

I think in some ways, we’ve been fortunate to lose the likes of Drinkwater and Mahrez. As much as I think Mahrez will shine next season they’re perfect examples of the grass not always being greener.

Couple that with the fact Ben has ended like Shaws England career in the space of 12 months... someone who is at a so called “big six” club...

Players are starting to wake up and see the value of patience, if he goes this season the expectation is huge. If he stays and has another great season and smashes it for England then there’s more of a trust element there and whoever he signs for will treat him more like a pro than a risky young punt who they need to deliver instantly... there would be less of a circus around it and he’ll be allowed to just do his thing!

I think with City especially, they know their issue is centre mid, so far in the last two seasons they’ve converted a centre mid and an attacking left and ride sided midfielder to a left back! It’s clearly not that pressing an issue lol

Couldn’t agree more.

I know one of the coaches who coached him in the academy, said he was a lovely lad with his feet firmly on the ground.

He'll stay at least a season more to cement his England place. And he'll stay seasons more dependent on European football. Eventually we'll phase in Luke Thomas if Chilwell leaves.

Make or break season this year in that regard I believe. Exciting prospects, but fail to make top 6 and I think we could be struggling to hold on to our best young players.

I think the club knows this themselves hence the rumours of us spending big this summer.

In my honest opinion I don’t think Chilwell is good enough (yet) to make the step up to a top 4 club, stay here and learn the finer arts of your defensive duties and develop a killer cross and we may have a £50/£60/£70 million player on our hands....

£125m double bid for Maguire and Chilwell, yes or no?

I know every club has to sell players, but we’ve had too many key players leave over recent years.. 2 more in one window and you have to question the ambition of the club.

We need to keep our best players if we want to achieve anything

Doubt the club could refuse that to be honest. £50m for Chilly & £75m for Maguire. Bring in Tierney for £25m & Jonathan Tah £40m (Release clause) leaves you £60m profit. Hard to say no.

Lascelles could also be a good option if we are to lose Maguire.

However I would rather keep both for the record.

What's happening with Sam Hughes?..

Could be his breakthrough season?

But good enough to be England's first choice LB?

He’d slot into Man City’s side lovely.

Amazed that some people think that disposing of 2/11 of our first choice (and England’s first choice ) side would not weaken ( indeed might even strengthen ) the club

No chance. I can’t see any benefit in weakening our team.
