HibiscusMark Posted 15 December 2018 Posted 15 December 2018 Playing a sole striker was ok with Mahrez in the side. He drew midfielders and defenders and was able to create chances. We don’t have that anymore...sadly Gray nor Ghezzal have the quality. Seems Puel has gone for the ‘stability’ approach..very defensive. If Jamie’s not scoring I can’t see where the goals will come from. Very likely we’ll settle for a mid table finish...not good enough given the poor teams in the league.
Ted Maul Posted 15 December 2018 Posted 15 December 2018 Another veiled Puel out thread... not had one of those in 10 minutes!
Jaspa Posted 15 December 2018 Posted 15 December 2018 Obviously, losing Mahrez was the headline of the season before it had even started. Maddison has been bought in the team to add that spark but he's been inconsistant and we also keep shoving him out wide to accomidate the system and other players. We lack real intelligence in the team too really, there were too many times especially in the second half where we would get the ball to run straight into open space to lose it or just waste it without releasing; when we were confronted with a defender it would be safely recycled but nearly always end up wide where our go to ball is then Vardy's noggin - we need someone who knows how to pull teams apart with the ball, where to play it and when, aswell as being a decent midfielder; we've had Cambiasso then a Kante protected Drinky and now rely on Papy Mendy after Adrien Silva has seemingly failed, we lack that type of brain in the middle of the pitch. It could also be added that Huth, Mahrez and even Wasil have been big losses to the collective intelligence of the squad, all of them added something we dont have now.
SystonFox Posted 15 December 2018 Posted 15 December 2018 We need to go back in for mahrez maybe get him on loan. He doesn’t even play every week up in Manchester so he must be unhappy. lets get drinkwater back on loan too. i wonder what marcin wasilewski is like these days
Heymister2015 Posted 15 December 2018 Posted 15 December 2018 We were boring and not creating many chances even with Mahrez in the team! I’m seeing no difference with or without him

Tuna Posted 15 December 2018 Posted 15 December 2018 How could we not manage to get in anything resembling a replacement? We knew he was leaving for about 2 years.
Fox92 Posted 15 December 2018 Posted 15 December 2018 Said it today at half time. We lack that ability to unlock which he provided. Even when half-bothered he'd walk right back into this side.
Blue'nWhiteFox Posted 15 December 2018 Posted 15 December 2018 I too miss marez. But I miss n'colo cante more.
Mendi Posted 15 December 2018 Posted 15 December 2018 He gone and we do miss him, but nothing can be done on him.
Captain... Posted 15 December 2018 Posted 15 December 2018 What we miss is someone that can beat a man and move defenders about. Maddison Vardy Gray Albrighton are all talented footballers but Mahrez could take 2 or 3 defenders out the game meaning the rest of the defence has to react. One consequence of not playing a counter attack and building from the back is you are coming up against set defences. Without a Mahrez to stick a defender on his arse and skip inside one and outside another it is too easy to defend against us. Make sure there is no space in behind and Maddison has no time in the time on the ball attacks go down the flanks and we have no aerial threat.
ealingfox Posted 16 December 2018 Posted 16 December 2018 Can't believe we're missing our most gifted player ever. Ffs.

There is a reason why Man City paid so much for him. He is top quality and someone like him does not come around easily. The point though is that it is the manager’s responsibility to use what is at his disposal and get the best out of the team. Ferguson was the best in the business. If you look back at the Man U squads, yes he had some top class players, but he consistently made pretty average players (eg. the Neville brothers, Carrick, etc) into pretty good players when playing in the collective. He can lose any player and yet somehow he can find a “replacement”. This is because he recognized there is no exact replicate of anyone but he adjusts and made all his players play at their best. His squads always believe they can win and play accordingly. They almost win just by reputation and by turning up because oppositions fear them before the ball is kicked and as a result they always had that edge. We had that for a while but is fast losing it thanks to Puel.
Blue ROI Posted 16 December 2018 Posted 16 December 2018 At one point we were bottom of the league when he was with us too. Not to mention 2 mid table finishes after 2016. Don't assume we would be without problems if he was still with us.

No one has said there would be no problems, but I think you have big denial issues if you think we not missing him and that he wouldnt improve us if back.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 16 December 2018 Posted 16 December 2018 We're worse off without our best ever player? Cutting edge insight from FT as usual.
Nick Posted 16 December 2018 Posted 16 December 2018 Whilst not wishing to get into the Mahrez is not replaceable arguments we could have and still need to buy a wide forward player with pace and skill - and they do exist.

In football, you don't miss departed players...It's an immature, unproffesional view, plus totally lacks understanding and logic. Since Puel s tenure Mahrez had enough chances to prove,he would be the desperate missing link in the futue....Well Mahrez didn't use that chance, Mahrez in those last month's didn't lift us!!!....Others teams don't have Messi,Ronaldo,Mahrez,Algero,Vardy,Salah,Corthino...blah,blah.. Especially our very near competitors....and they are still producing performances.....
alanf0x Posted 16 December 2018 Posted 16 December 2018 When all the plastics moaned he wasn’t putting the workrate in...give me a Mahrez at 50% than all of our current wingers at 100%
The Wizard Posted 16 December 2018 Posted 16 December 2018 Mahrez is not missing..call the search off... just seen him on MOTD...the bugga's playing for Man City... Shazam..!
volpeazzurro Posted 16 December 2018 Posted 16 December 2018 We miss the man but not the circus. The inevitable consequence of football ... your better players leave for bigger clubs. It happens to the likes of Man Utd , Liverpool and Chelsea so it's certainly going to happen to us. No use in crying over spilt milk, move on from Mr Mardy.
