woodland fox Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 Why don’t our goal scorers take penalties?
Corky Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 Fuchs and Soyuncu both took penalties, successfully, in the last round.

theessexfox Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 Maguire scored. Fuchs obvious penalty taker. Soyuncu shite but scored in last round. Alternatives: Ricardo (another defender) Simpson (another defender) Ward (goalkeeper) Albrighton (clearly doesn't fancy himself) Wilf (doesn't seem a natural penalty taker) Hamza (as above) Gray (perhaps he was 5th?)
LCCFox96 Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 Tbf Fuchs has a bit of quality from dead ball situations, although we've missed it in these shootouts. Said on the post match thread, I'm genuinely very surprised he missed 2/3 over the three cup shootouts this season.
jayfox26 Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 Other than Maddison, we didn't have anyone on the pitch who you would imagine to be a good penalty taker. As others have said, Soyuncu and Fuchs scored in the last round. Just because a player is an attacker, doesn't mean they are a good penalty taker. Just look at Mahrez as a prime example.
Foxxed Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 Soyuncu was a striker to begin with. He scored a great penalty before. I can understand Soyuncu either wanting to or being asked.
HesNotGudjonsonn2 Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 Does anyone remember the Aston Villa left back called Phil King? Nope, didn’t think so. He scored a stunner just by kicking it bang down the centre as hard as he could against Inter Milan. Shock horror the keeper didn’t save it. Smack them all as hard as you can down the centre and the keeper will miss 87%. It is a fact I just made up but has some legs to it.
Monsell1976 Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 It’s down to who has the bottle in these scenarios, some strikers don’t like them. Takes some balls to go and take one, and they must have felt confident
StanSP Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 Not a fan of the argument that just cos you're a defender means you shouldn't take a penalty. If you're confident, then step up. Don't mess it up with a stutter. Many defenders in the past have been successful more often than not with their penalties. But don't make a rod for your own back by pissing about with fancy stutters. Just leather it low and hard, especially when facing a keeper who's extremely tall. Logic would think you'd aim for the low corners so it's harder for him to reach.
ScouseFox Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 because the technical ability of all the further forward players we had on the pitch amounts to about fu cking zero
UniFox21 Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 It's not about being a goalscorer to take a penalty. It's having the mental strength to stand-up and take a penalty in those situations. Yeah they were poor penalties, but they had the balls to stand up and take it and I respect that.
lozzyblue fox Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 When there are no strikers or attacking options left on the pitch then there is no option than to let defenders/def midfielders take them. confidence is zero at the minute.
jon1bc Posted 18 December 2018 Posted 18 December 2018 why do players stutter, then place it the same side of the keeper? It's the most indecisive sht cnt penalty there is. Just hit the fkr

Finnegan Posted 19 December 2018 Posted 19 December 2018 Better question, why do we still let anyone who takes a stutter penalty anywhere near the spot? We must have missed about seriously 80% over the last four years.
