Liamlcfc1 Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 Charlie Austin actually follows Dominic King so could be truth in it
Kitchandro Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 Not a terrible idea in the short term. Screw option B, Vardy needs a strike partner. Austin is decent at holding it up and bags a few goals. There are worse options out there.
LCCFox96 Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 I'd be very open to this. Austin had an excellent goalscoring record everywhere before Southampton and has been reasonable on the South Coast too. Different to our other striking options, knows the league and would be cheap enough. Only concern is injuries really.
RumbleFox Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 As a "Plan B" I can't see this as a bad thing. Up until his move to Southampton his goal scoring record was good by anyone's standards. If the price was right would be a decent signing I think.

Having said that if we were going down that route, i’d want us to sign someone better than Austin. I haven’t seen any evidence to suggest Maddison and Vardy work well together, their play styles don’t mix well and it leaves both of them isolated. Long term, maybe Barnes could be a second striker similar to the Alli/Kane partnership (sorry for mentioning the spuds!).
nepa fox Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 Never been a huge fan of Austin, but unfortunately right now we need an option up front, that can give us something. Think Puel has lost faith in our strikers (Vardy excluded of course) offers a target in the box. I say, on loan, or cheap, couldnt hurt to give him a run out for us.

Clever Fox Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 I'm certain we could do better if we look around, But then again he knows the league so that's a bonus. I wouldn't see him as a long term solution but he could shake up our squad. What worries me is his attitude and lack of work rate. If h's not scoring he'll be slaughtered on here. I take Long in preference to Austin but he's probably worth a punt.

Good God - still get shivers thinking about it. Vanden Plas, from Bentley Coachbuilders to a stick on plastic badge for the allegro and princess. The end of civilisation as knew it

Fox85 Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 Very good striker on his day. If injury free could be a excellent bit of business
cropstonfox Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 Should have signed him 2 1/2 years ago instead of having wasting money on Slimani. Still could do a job with Vardy and instead of Vardy when injured or as a sub. Will always score and can still get on the end of a cross.
UPinCarolina Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 As others have stated, injury prone and often unfit. Would only take on loan, but he’s pretty strong in the air and can get on the end of a cross.
Finn Claw II Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 Shinji out and Austin in. I’d be happy with that.
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 Would prefer Andy Carroll personally, but more than happy with Austin as our plan b.

Imo we will need to add some experience and leaders to the squad to replace them. Schmeichel, Evans, Austin, Vardy & an experienced CM (Drinkwater, or even Silva?) would be a strong core to build our youth around. Silva?
NewquayFox Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 This reminds me of a Nugent type signing so it’s a ‘YES’ from me....

urban.spaceman Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 If he was cheap then this would be a low risk no brainer signing like Evans.
Cincinnati Fox Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 Always rated him, gives a different option to Vardy and might suit our sideways sideways sideways cross tactics when we are losing
Sir Shep Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 Why not? Won’t cost too much, gives us options, probably turns the noses up of the snobs so he’s bound to do well!
ajthefox Posted 26 January 2019 Posted 26 January 2019 A couple of years ago I would've been all for this but now I'm a bit meh. Injuries and the cost are obviously the main issues though, no doubting he is good for a few goals and would be different to what we've got.
