Soar Fox Posted 8 April 2019 Posted 8 April 2019 Arrested on suspicion of crashing his Range Rover whilst drink driving. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/8819701/chelsea-danny-drinkwater-drink-drive-smash-party/amp/?utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=sunmaintwitter&utm_source=Twitter&__twitter_impression=true
spacemunky Posted 8 April 2019 Posted 8 April 2019 I hope this isn't a sign of things to come for Danny.
ozleicester Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 Sad situation, glad that there doesnt seem to be any serious injuries. I hope that other players look at Drinky and question the value of going to a "big club". A player with the world at his feet who has wasted the best years of his career sitting on the bench or not even playing. Its time that squad sizes were limited.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 If he has been drink driving then whatever respect I had for him from our title winning season has just disappeared. It's sad to see, and I think by the time he leaves Chelsea it will be to late to save his career.
SystonFox Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 Stealing a wage but who can blame him. It’s not his fault Chelsea pay him so much and don’t use him, whatever the reason. bizarre turn in his career. I sort of feel for him
EastAnglianFox Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 Absolute idiot if true, deink drivers make my blood boil! Have to admit, only really clicked on this thread to say how many versions of "should have stuck to the water Danny" gags had been attempted.

As for the drink driving there is no excuse, get a taxi, he has pits of cash ?

Definitely a poor move for him (unless earning an even bigger bucketload of cash was his sole motivation). His agent is always going to go for the transfer and I guess sportsmen are a determined bunch and Drinks probably backed himself to not end up in the "eternal substitute" role - most likely he thought he could force his way in to the team.
StanSP Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 Hope this puts an end to anyone who thinks we should try and get him back. At the same time, hope he gets the help that's needed once he's served any punishment. A big presumption but I'm guessing not being able to play what you love doing for a couple of years and being shunned out but two managers really does take its toll on you mentally. And yes I do know he gets paid a fat wedge for sitting around and training each week but money doesn't always guarantee happiness.

I wonder if he’s ever actually put in a transfer request.... if he’s unhappy surely he would have.
StanSP Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 Just now, Mark 'expert' Lawrenson said: I wonder if he’s ever actually put in a transfer request.... if he’s unhappy surely he would have. Maybe. But I'm guessing his wages are putting off other clubs from buying him. So while he's 'happy' to take the money, is he actually 'happy' not being able to play football...
Fox92 Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 Why was he using Bumble? And given he's on so much why didn't he just pay for a taxi? So many questions.
rn9013 Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 I absolutely despise drink driving, I'd personally like to see a zero alcohol policy when driving introduced into law. Most people enjoy a drink, but I will never be able to comprehend the mindset of those that feel they can head out for a drink and then risk the innocent lives of others going about their daily lives because they can't be a**ed to get a taxi. I know it's only my opinion, but I know that even after one pint my reactions are slower, even if only slightly, so would just never get behind the wheel of a car. Such a shame to see Danny Drinkwater seemingly go down this path, he really should have probably taken some advice from Vardy on the career front. Vardy understood it was probably better to play week in week out to be a big fish in a smaller pond than warm the bench for a 'bigger' club. Such a waste.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 29 years old, probably has one move left in him, he’ll have to take a big salary cut and end up at a struggling prem side or a promoted side. 12 appearances for Chelsea altogether and I’m guessing some of those were as a sub.
AKCJ Posted 9 April 2019 Posted 9 April 2019 This has probably blown his chance at a move to a 7th chasing side this summer.

As for the drink driving there is no excuse, get a taxi, he has pits of cash ? It's only a poor move in hindsight. Personally I can't blame him for making a big move when we looked like we had run our race. When we won the title he was half of the best midfield partnership in the PL and looked the classier of the two players on the ball. He had an opportunity to go to a big club and rekindle that partnership and win more trophies. It has worked out a terrible move for him footballing wise but he won't die wondering. A brilliant player for us and the cherry on the cake was he earned the club £35m whilst he was already on a downward curve after repetitive injuries. I wouldn't be surprised if he seen out his contract at Chelsea and retired. You never hear him whining about not getting game time or forcing a move so perhaps in his head he's already semi retired and seeing out his contract? Awful business for Chelsea and must be one of their worst pieces of business if not the worst.
