Where were you when we were sh!t ?.

Recommended Posts

Have a vague memory of a game we played after st Patrick Days on a Friday in 2005. West Ham away. Televised Leicester games were so rare for obvious reasons between 04-09.

Checking the BBC website as the horror of Sheffield Wednesday 2008 unfolded. Then a week later watching in despair at our relegation as Southampton invaded the pitch with Nigel Pearson celebrating a famous great escape. Little did we know...

Remember going to Roker park (sunderland for all the millennials) might be wrong but think it was 1-1 Graham Fenton scoring for us and being absolutely bloody freezing.

Also Tranmere away once, cant remember the score. Got very wet though on the open terrace.

I think I went to that Sunderland game. Bitterly cold.

I went Tranmere away on a Tuesday night. It pi$$ed it down. We may have won 2-1

I remember stopping for chips near their ground and writing the score on a shop window with my chip grease!

I started following LCFC in the end of season 2014/15 when I learned about this EPL club that tried to pull off "the great escape", I did read about it in some random internet article.

Then I learned their nickname - "the foxes" - and man, do I love foxes! Also I love blue kits quite a lot, and their goalkeeper is Schmeichel's son! Nice!

So I was pretty happy when City secured a place in EPL.

And then the next season... let's say it was quite good.

So I don't know what you're talking about guys, you all must be wrong. Supporting LCFC is _always_ fun and not boring/shit at all.

Got me thinking. There is a generation of young fans out there who just possibly in twenty years time will wonder what on earth we were talking about. How could the all conquering mighty LCFC champions of Europe ever have been shit. A generation raised on entitlement and not sufferance.

One day, like the war veterans, our numbers will slowly diminish and there will be nobody left who can truly say, when we really were shit, i was there. We watched from the east stand, the family enclosure, double decker, members stand and SK1. It made no difference, we were shit from every angle. We eventually got a nice stadium but the football was again horrible to watch.

When i first starting going as a kid we had a decent side yet were still a yo-yo club, and i was happy with our place in the order of things. we got better, actually had some great players and i could never have imagined then just how awful we would be for such a long time. TBF after the Taylor debacle and the administration that followed relegation I was just thankful that we actually still had a club to support. Never in my wildest dreams could i have imagined what was to come after Manderic sold us to some bunch of Thais for a quid.

Try telling that to the youngsters of tomorrow

Anyone remember Mirandinha (spelling) playing for Newcastle? For some reason, a group of us decided to go to any football match because for some reason, we couldn't get tickets for Leicester...and it wasn't because we were good and tickets were scarce!!

Anyway, we chose Cov v Newcastle at Highfield Rd. We went in the Geordie end because we hated Cov. Mirandinha scored a penalty. The Geordies thought we were Cov because of our accents and wanted a fight! I remember that much.

Hillsborough disaster..definitely couldn't get tickets that day for Chelsea at home. I think they brought 8k that day. Me and some mates randomly chose Scarborough vs Scunthorpe. We had to change in Sheffield for Scarborough. I remember seeing upset Liverpool fans in Sheffield. And for the millennials, internet hadn't been invented then so I didn't know until I got back to Leicester what had happened.

Seeing the Blunts get promoted at Filbert Street. That hurt and I'm certain my hatred of them stems mainly from this match. I spawned a ticket in the Double Decker that game as I couldn't get one in Pen 2 or 3. Watching some cnut dressed up as Bertie Bassett run on the pitch every time they scored. 2-4 that day??? I remember J Ward buying a cup of coffee and dropping it on the blunts below really casually from the DD!!

OK, technically speaking we were at the beginning of being on our way back from being sh*t, but I was there at Swindon away in League One. Half of the away stand was under cover, the other half being exposed to the elements and the day's inclement weather, meaning the song of the day was "we're the wet / dry side over here". :giggle:

2-0 up and absolutely in control after 83 minutes, my father turns to me and my brother, and boldly claims "the game's won - these will never score two goals".

Swindon proceed to score 2 goals in 2 minutes, one from perennial thorn-in-our-side Simon Cox, and the game ended 2 all. To cap it all, there was an accident on the "Magic Roundabout" outside the ground meaning we were stuck in the car park being goaded by fans with a striking resemblance to Kerry and Kurtan for the best part of an hour.

So yeah, TL;DR, when we were sh*t, I was getting the p1ss taken out of me in the pouring rain by the shallow end of the gene pool. My father has never been able to live that down, and we still bring it up now whenever we appear to be coasting in a game. lol

Actually, second more relevant candidate for "when we were sh*t" was my first game back after a few years of disinterest as a result of being in with the nerds at school (which had mercifully coincided with the true doldrum years from 04-07).

I was coaxed back into attending a game by my Dad with a weekend trip to Blackpool back in Feb 2008. The fool got a B&B as far up the coast as Little Bispham, and the trams were off, so we walked the 4 miles to the ground in driving sleet and proceeded to watch Leicester go down 2-1 in an uncovered Meccano stand, with my future hero Gary Taylor Fletcher scoring their first and my past hero Paul Dickov scoring the winner.

I'm obviously a sucker for punishment, because I also attended a crappy 0-2 home reverse to Hull that season, yet for my sins here I am 11 years later, having held a season ticket since the League One season and seen us win three divisions and being able to make the possibly-unique claim of having started following the Foxes properly at the point when we were objectively at our absolute sh*ttest.

So... I win. Close thread.

i also remember going to the player of the year awards which must have been 05 or 06 as Joey (from the halfway line) Gudjohnsson was still with us, whereby i stood talking to Momo Sylla and being amazed at how he'd clearly just turned up from the golf course and absolutely stank of BO.

This was also the year that Rufus Brevett was an absolute sex pest with my (then) Mrs which i suppose i should have taken as a compliment rather than holding an irrational grudge against him for the last 13 years! lol

When our key games were versus Notts County, Barnsley and Derby. Those were the big fixtures to look forward too.

We played Forest in the Zenith Data Cup and there was always only going to be one winner, we were so far behind them with regards to quality.

Spearing ( not Jay ) , Nick Cusack, Phil Turner, Grant Brown.

In those days you literally went to just watch Ali Mauchlen for his tackles and aggression.

Desperately clinging to the hope that Levein was eventually going to get it right. Watching the most lightweight midfield in the history of the game in Williams and Hughes being hoofed over.

Do remember shouting my then-gf's house down in Harrow watching De Vries and co. knocking Spurs out of the cup. I think I scared the piss out of her when we scored - she'd never seen me so animated.

Good thread. Makes our current success even sweeter to remember how bad it was not long ago.

I definitely went that one! We were all giving the Swindon keeper a load of sh!te.

Obviously his name was Smith because one of the songs that day was ”Smiggy is a paedo!”

He turned round to us and flipped us the bird when they equalised.

I'm pretty sure Jobber’s minibus got sabotaged that game too. Slashed tyres??

Could be wrong here, but does he work in one of our hospitality areas now?

Gibbo was a good player, Villa and Man Utd before us and won the league title at Villa, past his best when he joined us and plagued by injuries but he was there in the silence of the rams play off final, happy days!

Probably posted this elsewhere but the Zenith data away tie vs Notts County, we took loads that night in the pouring rain, I got the football special which was so intimidating even though we were all Leicester! Got held in at Nottingham station because there was doubts whether the game would go ahead, Massive police presence as we were escorted to Meadow Lane, but it felt great to be there in such numbers.

Also losing away at Peterborough, dreadful game, not sure when but the City fans had a nice fire going on the terrace 🔥

Attending games now is so far different now, it’s unrecognisable from the 80s and 90s where danger seemed to lurk everywhere.

I was there since 1966 so pick out of that as much shit as you want that’s why for us older fans these are truly heady times. One memory I do have as a boy is two 5-0 victories in a week one villa the other Lincoln city in the cup I was such a happy fella 😀
