Just imagine the meltdown on Celtic Chat...and by Chris Sutton :P it’ll never happen, but I can dream can’t I?

No..

Because we don't want a weakened reserve side compared to what we've already got!

Well we could always set up a 3rd team?

If anything I’d say Celtic are a bigger club than us, their following is massive.

You can have a huge following and still be a smaller club.

Celtic play in a shit league literally league 1 standard with Celtic being a top end championship team lower end premier league team at best hense why it's a 1 horse race sometimes 2 for the title. Doesnt matter how people suger coat them.

Celtic are a massive club, the first British side to win the European Cup. Financially they can't compete with EPL clubs but any thought that LCFC are bigger is delusional.

Are you a Forest fan too?..

They are a club with a big following, depends how you define what a big club is currently. Whatever a club has won in the past is history and does not reflect on their current status. Is anyone stating the foxes are a bigger club? If you compare wealth, trophies won in the last 20 years and league status, then we are a bigger club, but this all irrelevant as we are only interested in our club, so the size of other clubs means nothing.

Celtic are a bigger club, Leicester are in a bigger league. I suppose it depends on what players care about more at the end of the day.

I don't think anyone here really cares about the bigger club argument though, as history of a club is totally irreverent in today's game.

Yes they have huge potential due to the USA, also could be popular in the East, but as you say even if new owners with lots of cash took over they would never compete with the Prem or the other European leagues because of the standard of the teams they are playing. If all the Scottish Prem teams had lots of wealth to strengthen their teams it would help their cause, but that is unlikely to happen. Eventually they will become a team like Sunderland, PNE, at best Villa, teams that used to be very big in Div 1 (old) but cannot really compete now (although Villa could if they stay up) due to the money being distributed amongst other clubs. West Ham, Everton, Wolves are reasonably big historically but are financially going to get bigger.

If Celtic was in the Prem now then we would be both attracting similar types of players and its a bit of a pointless topic as its not exactly comparable.

It is not comparable as they will most likely never be in the prem

If Celtic was in the premiership last season they would be recruiting players for promotion in the championship for next season

Think they would be in the top 6. Why. Well, they would have all the revenue from Sky that we enjoy. They would then be able to buy much better players and I think that would be a very  attractive proposition for quite a few players. The only thing holding Celtic back is the awful league that they play in which attracts little to revenue.

FFP makes it very difficult for any team, however big they are to just completely overhaul their squad to compete at the highest level. Support wise and the potential revenue from all the commercial activity and sponsorship around the world would see Celtic up there amongst the biggest clubs in the Prem. However, unless they are going to be allowed in the Prem ir there's a European Super League they get invited in, it's fairly irrelevant.

As Finnegan says, they are an institution. Fanatics follow them due to the religious association, it doesn't really matter what they do in that respect. They will be followed in huge numbers regardless, weird in a way but that's the way it is. I just don't see a time when the playing field around Europe will level enough for them to overpower things again, their time as a footballing empire is long gone.

Mediocre and scruffy clubs like us are in the very fortunate position that we play in the most popular league and country in the world when it comes to football. It must sting a bit. Aaah well at least we can argue we have won things as well in the last 20+ years, but guff like West Ham, Everton, Palace etc can't and yet can and will pinch their players if they want.
