Underdog and LSF?

.....great to have a Leicester band at the forefront of the club!!!

Not a fan of Kasabian as not my type of music, their songs has a tendency to be weak in the middle, as if the have run out of ideas when crafting the song. Let us hope we find the right song to get us up for games.

I liked Sweet Caroline.

So did I, I don’t care if every club plays it, so what, if it can get fans singing that’s all that counts. I hope the club don’t read this forum cos we’re gonna be singing Vera lynn and frank Sinatra and Louis Fvckin Armstrong  if it was up to some folk. Remember the we love yer chant, it was exactly the same with people moaning about we copied it and the scarf waving is soooo beneath them, well here’s a bit of info, the stadium was rocking, kids were going mental in the family stand and we win the league. How about a bit of forever in blue jeans as well!!!

  Sweet Caroline duh duh duh.

Just before 59 minutes. Put your earphones in and crank up the volume.

In over 40 years of going down I have never heard WYS belted out like that. Frank Sinatra version ext just isn’t/won’t catch on, I used to bang that drum too.  People mention it being the club song but there are so many who have never heard it because it is rarely sang away from l1 or sk1. It has only ever really been a kop song, JB version can turn it into a Club anthem.

Great link, thanks for sharing and totally agree. I think we have found a real point in time with this.

That's brilliant, hopefully we can get this on a regular basis.

Frank Sinatra, in fact, any cover of the proper "When you're smiling", is better than that dirge that Jersey Budd brought out.

It can be sung very well too when we make the proper effort. It just needs us to slow it down a bit, which some of the older versions will do.

Think the point is it’s not something the club can play pre match. It’s not an anthem. Jersey budd version is as close we can get to that

you can hardly sing it any slower...

Its a NO from me.

For me it is our club song and should be played at the start of each game.

Yes the Jersey Budd version is shit (prefer Louisa Armstrong’s).  HOWEVER, it if has to be  Jersey Budd’s fair enough.  Get people behind it and sing it loud, something that is ours.

As for the odd idiot on speed, who think’s it’s too slow! I’m sick of the fact some people sing at 1000mph and blur the songs/chants.  Get off the drugs and sing properly.

The Louis Armstrong version is shit, imagine trying to sing along to that lol

Ba ba do do do daa lol

It's somewhere in between the two though. The one sung in the terraces for a couple of decades isn't as slow as the Armstrong one and old Louis never had any wiggly hand movements either but the Jersey Budd one isn't what we've tradionally sung over the years and I remember quite a few people screwing their toes into the floor when the club first forced it down people's necks about ten years ago. The guy's like some sort of budget Ed Sheeran & turned a terrace anthem into Weller-esque dad rock.

Don't get me wrong, having any WYS version is better than the pounding ear-splitting dance shite drowning out whatever your mate next to you is saying it's just not the terrace version I grew up with.

It's better than anything previous so we should carry on with it the lack of finger action is disappointing though

That's what she said

It's out song. It's not really an anthem, doesn't need to be, and shouldn't try to be.

I think the problem is most of our fans haven't a musical note in their body! 🤣

Jersey Budd's version is awful, he manages to butcher both the melody and the phrasing. It took me a few moments on Thursday night to recognise the song!

But if that's what it takes to restore WYS as our song, then I'm OK with that, I'd rather have that than not.

It's our song. I love the fact it evokes emotions - smiling, laughing, crying - although Budd does somehow manage to flatten those dynamics into a soulless dirge 😬

It’s a while since I’d heard the Jersey Budd version of When You’re Smiling, but quite enjoyed hearing it on Thursday.

Like many here I grew up on the Kop at Filbo. WYS was belted out in pen 3 quickly with corresponding hand gestures. Originally I hated the JB version because it was slow and didn’t correspond to the rhythm of the old kop chant.

But, you know what, I think we’re in a different era now. It’s ok people saying we shouldn’t need gimmicks to create atmosphere - but we bloody do! However sad that might be.

JB’s WYS isn’t particularly slow when you compare it to Sunshine on Leith or You’ll Never Walk Alone. If it gets a few people singing. If it gets the song known to a new audience as a club anthem - then let’s go with it and not be precious about it.

One day we might again not need piped in music to help create an atmosphere. That day sadly isn’t here yet so let’s sing this loudly and proudly.

I'm pretty indifferent to what music we have, and whatever gets the crowd going is fine.

Except for the Jersey Budd WYS version though - its cack and just reminds me of pub britrock bands & David Brent. Not for me, but it's not the end of the world...

I have a mild preference for Republica & Kasabian for nostalgia reasons and I weirdly liked Carmina Burana when we had that for a few games years ago
