I'm starting to think it's time to assign the family stand as the sit on your hands, miserable old bastards stand. Get them all in one place and stop them feeling so awkward that other people actually like to stand and have a good time. I see other grounds, other ends where it's non-stop standing or at the very least for all the set pieces and goal mouth action and I wonder why it takes so much for our lot to get involved and join in. I thought that version of WYS was class last night and just for a moment it felt like we genuinely had a club anthem.

I thought WYS was OK but I didn't like Sweet Caroline or any of the other music. I'd rather someone come on and play the post horn gallop. That's the tradition of the club.

Great from the club to play it. I just have to question what they are trying to achieve drowning out the fans who are trying to generate an atmosphere pre-game with noise of the music and the videos. Sweet Caroline can get in the bin.

Swap Sweet Caroline out for Club Foot and it would have been pretty perfect.

The "you're doing fun wrong" crowd are going to hate it. Let's be honest, it is objectively cheesy rubbish. We all know that. It's a little tacky and it's a little cringey. 

 

Now tell me how many of the people stood around you joined in? How many people in the posh seats and the family stand and the quietest areas of the ground joined in? 

 

There's a reason they play it at countless sporting events all round the world. There's a reason it's always at the start whilst everything is building up. It gets people to participate. It gets people warmed up. It lowers their inhibitions a little and makes them feel more comfortable singing. 

 

We've got about 25 to 30 K people in the ground on the average match that obviously don't feel like making much noise and are pretty self conscious about it. If you can whack on one cheesy ballad to get them to loosen up a bit I think that's probably worth having a few ultras that take themselves a bit seriously bristling with annoyance for a few minutes. 

 

I noticed a few people in the Musical Traditions poll thread I started saying uncharacteristically complimentary things about the Welsh. Nice. But you know what the key to a good atmosphere and good singing is at the Millennium Stadium? Bread of Heaven, Delilah, Hymns and Arias, songs that literally everyone knows and everyone enjoys joining in on - even old Mrs Jones down the front. 

 

If you've ever been at a party, bar, pub or club and you've had a few and joined in the chorus of Living on a Prayer out of sheer peer pressure despite the fact you tell everyone you hate the song and you feel dirty afterwards, you know exactly why Sweet Caroline is a smart addition to the pre game.

  The problem is that it is another club's anthem and therefore not something that we should be looking to incorporate pre or post match.

Last night was my first home game for a few years (I live in Scotland)

 

Thought the pre match music was awful, flat, not building up the atmosphere at all. The WYS version is the wrong pace to be sung by the crowd. 
 

Prawn Sandwich brigade in the west stand around me loved it though thought it was like a geriatrics disco.
