Vards and the big looming hill

As long as he gets to 100 Premier League goals I'll be happy.

If I'm right in thinking, he only needs 20 more goals in this league to reach that figure. Phenomenal considering there's bound to be more experienced strikers in this league who started their careers earlier haven't even reached that figure.

I think he's got a good 2-3 years left in him at this level but obviously has to look after his body even more. Luckily we have a great sports science team at the club so they're bound to keep one of our prized assets in good condition.

One for the young'uns!

That's funny, I thought it was a Dorian Gray reference! lol

I had to G**gle it, but it was written (by Oscar Wilde) in 1890...

He'd be 34/35 by then.. Are you sure?

The advances in sports science etc and the fact he’s naturally slim all will help him maintain that yard of pace! Huth hardly trained during our title winning season and was still class. I’d have confidence in the medical teams doing the same with Vardy if it came to it

One for the young uns, tho I dunno why...

Or the very old!

I think that young uns comment was a joke.

Re: Vardy - I think he has got a couple more seasons in him at this level. He was a very late bloomer and he is a machine. He's the opposite of Michael Owen or Ledley King, who trained so hard his body was fuched way before its time.

I hope that when Vardy does begin to slow down, he can be rotated with someone, perhaps Perez, and become more of an impact sub, rather than him leaving for China or somewhere. I'd love it if he stayed on as a coach when he retires, as well. Hopefully, that's a long way off yet, though.

I'm gonna take a guess that he'll stick with us in the top flight until he's 36/37 (where hopefully he has fallen down the pecking order to a new, younger forward) and then he'll move on to a lower league or abroad until he's 40. Like said previously, starting so late means he'll likely finish later than the average forward.

I fear this season will be his last as a first team regular near the top of his game.

He is 33 in January which is a problem for someone whose game is based around pace and running. I thought last season that his harrying and harassing was good but not at the same level as when we won the league. I can only see that getting worse as father time catches up. I say this because strikers or wide players with pace being a serious and fundamental part of there game either slow up, lose their pace or start getting more injuries.

Players like Michael Owen, Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, all look(ed) ineffective when thy got into their 30s and started picking up injuries. Even Thierry Henry who returned to Arsenal on loan as a 33/34 year old looked woeful and he has a fair better all round game than Vards. We need to be conscious of this and another striker with pace needs to be a priority. Someone to play in cups and when Vards needs a rest. Id look at Moreilos at Rangers as an option.

Good job on not reading the rest of the thread and just jumping in with a post full of nonsense

I did read the thread but largely disagree with the people who think he has 3 years left which will take him to the age of 35 (and a half). You may not agree with what I type but if you think he us running as much as 3 seasons ago, will have that same level of pace for three more seasons and dont see a correlation between speedy players losing pace as they get older and injuries then more fool you. Take Rio Ferdinand as an example, left United at 34 and his last 2 seasons after losing a yard were painful. The bloke is super fit and lives the right way and even decided to take up boxing. All that good living doesnt hide the fact that you lose pace as you get over 30, whether you like it or not.

Yeah most players lose pace of 30, but thats not because they cross an invisible barrier at 30, its because they have been hammering it since they were 16-19. Vardy hasnt, not even close. we would have expoected to see some signs of him slowing down already, but hes not, so based on that its not unreasonable to suggest that he can go for a few more years than most

He's so important for us I don't want to think about him slowing down or being phased out. He may be 32 but he's not got the miles on the clock that Rooney, Owen or Walcott had when they went on the decline and he's always had a good injury record.

I think we can get 2 more seasons out of him as our no.9.
