LCFC hub Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 How long does he have left at his best? His goals are key to where we finish, and wanting to break into the top 6 consistently.. But he's 32 now (33 in January) Long term we need to be able to replace him but how long do we have to find an adequate replacement? 1 year, 2 years? Or less?
SouthStandUpperTier Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 This is why the Perez signing was a good one. He's someone who is capable of filling in as the front man if Vardy gets injured, or suspended, or suddenly hits the age barrier. We should still be in the market for good young strikers though.

RoboFox Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 Since he started relatively late, there's an argument that his body will have more longevity than others who've played at the top level their entire careers. Michael Owen was f**ked by about the age of 28 because he was caning it physically at professional level week-in week-out from about 17. He didn't have the genetics and burned out. (And yeah, Ronaldo did the same and is still doing it, but let's face it the guy was born in a test tube.) Thankfully, Vards was drinking Bacardi Breezers and smoking a dodgy bag of weed down the local park at that age. He's clearly naturally fit, has no serious recurring injuries... I'd say we've got 3 good years left.
jeffschlupp Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 Glenn Murray is 3.5 years older than him, and first made it into the Football League at the age of 21 (Vardy obviously 25 in comparison). Murray has just done 13 and 12 goal seasons for one of the lowest scoring surviving teams this league has ever seen. I think he's got 3, even 4 years at the top left at least, but as others say we have to start looking for an understudy soon enough, if Iheanacho isn't going to be up to it.
TrentFox Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 All speculative, but I suspect this will be his last season as out-and-out top dog. I think he may have a serious striker for company / challenge next season.
Keiriel Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 I'd say a couple of years or so, minimum. He's not gonna break down the way Rooney did and the good thing about Vardy is his ability to adapt. He doesn't need to rely on lung-busting sprints anymore, so long as he's among the quickest to react over 10-15 yards.
PaulW Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 He's good for years yet.......the picture in his attic is in a hell of a state though.

MC Prussian Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 I think Vardy, despite some of his questionable dieting choices, has a particularly well-adapted metabolism, burns fat well and doesn't ever seem to put on weight. Guy has enough power and endurance in him for another two, three years on this level. But I would shift focus slightly - it's not just about Vardy, but also the support he gets. Any player that can either drag defenders away from Vardy or provide him with assists, be it on the flank or through the middle, will be of great value.
thegaffa Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 The way we now play, will enable him to play another 3 years at least before his game time or games will need to reduce. for me,he is now one of the most complete forwards in the premiership.
Tom12345 Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 Thanks to Puel ... he kept saying he was training Vards different things, eg. movement around the box, to keep him going playing at the highest level for a few more years. Puel was actually a great coach and a great football scout. He just wasnt as good in terms of man management and his English. Poor guy.
norwichfox Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 If we're lucky, Khanya Leshabela may turn out to be that future forward, looked a littler cracker on Tuesday until he got injured. jeez....Just checked the First Team on LCFC site for correct spelling of his name, and he's not shown as part of it any more....is he being farmed out now?

FoxFossil Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 Barnes - start on wing then switch to CF. It's the Leicester way.
sylofox Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 Not shure why people ask this question. At his age 2 to 3yrs. But wifh the right injuy no player is more than one game from being finished.
Guest bss9401 Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 Vardy had the World Cup last year and two very busy pre-seasons before that. This one has been a bit more traditional so I am excited to see how he is out of the blocks this season.
TJB-fox Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 I think he’s still got a fair way to go before he starts a natural decline. He’s changed his style of play massively from when he first joined to how he plays now. When he first signed he would almost play like Kante, chasing players down enthusiastically and fighting for every single ball. Not saying that he doesn’t fight for every ball now, but he’s slightly more reserved in his overall pressing. His movement is far more sharp, looking for those 2/3 moments in a game when he’s going to arch away from the centre back and be slipped through on goal, rather than running all over the place as he would 5-6 years ago. Also, his finishing is way too effective for him to have ‘lost it’. Can see him hopefully seeing out a few extra years at the end of his career despite potentially losing a yard of pace because of his excellent movement/finishing and all round centre forward play. Crazy that after all this time he is still our go to number 9, still banging in goals and is still a huge huge threat to premier league defences, perhaps in different ways to when he first played in the prem. what a player.
fuchsntf Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 He's got at least 3 years of top flight football in him.. IF...he only gets occasional knocks and doesn't get a big injury. He might however be thinking of a last swan song in China or the States.... Without Shouting it, Rodgers has got to look to build a team without Vardy. He has to anyway set up a plan B,with without some major players, even if Vardy was a few years younger,he wouldn't be just relying on Vardy... So besides Perez, and even if Nacho makes the cut,we need to find a youngster from within,or by next season have another quality striker on our books.. I would love to see him pick up the FA.cup with us..!!
nwl fox Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 He's got at least a couple of years left in the tank at PL level, the fact that he didn't make it professionally till his mid twenties gives him a couple of extra years on the norm
mikey54 Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 With the right game management I think he could carry on for at least a couple more years. By this I mean have someone else (e.g.Perez) chasing down defenders. Jamie still has pace but I believe his finishing will only get better
TheSomersetFox Posted 18 July 2019 Posted 18 July 2019 Will all depend on how much he wants to carry on at the top really. Just have to look at the likes of Zlatan/Ronaldo to see that if you’ve got the drive then there’s no reason you can’t go on scoring goals until you’re 35/36. Considering his career started a bit later the most I’d like to think he’ll be desperate to carry on for as long as he can. His game will change but he’s a clever enough player to make up for any loss of pace with his intelligence. And he’s physically freakish anyway. Got years left in him
