Never known a player where the ball gets stuck under his foot so much ! So frustrating to watch, always takes an age to release the ball, but yeah Perez isn’t the problem and has been ok at times, it’s just the whole intent and aggression of the team that needs improving 1
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 October 2021 Posted 1 October 2021 That miss in the first half last night really was fookin appalling. He had time just to pick his spot and put it about 3 ft wide of the goal Rubbish finish

He can quickly turn attack into defence. BUT, he somehow manages to score, some comically, some crackers. He's a right old mixed bag, that's for sure. I can understand why BR might have reservations. This whole narrative about Kel being comical and a mixed bag is criminally out of date. He dragged us through the end of last season - finishing top scorer despite being given far less minutes. He’s comeback again demonstrating an incredible ability to change games and make things happen. His stats speak for themselves across all competitions. To be honest I find Perez more frustrating in terms of loose touches and giving the ball away, but he doesn’t offer much by way of attacking threat. Perez works hard, but lacks skill, pace, conviction and strength. one thing that is underrated is Kel’s vision - see Vardy goal v Burnley and Barnes v Napoli. I had hoped to see more of that intelligent play from Perez, but he doesn’t really seem to produce many incisive passes. 1

The ball that dropped to him and he cocked it up, I could sort of forgive as it was so sudden and unexpected, but where Daka puts him through, that was inexcuable. Should have left it to Daka to finish. Good to see Daka encouraging everyone after the miss nonetheless.
Farrington fox Posted 1 October 2021 Posted 1 October 2021 If he starts on Sunday. There is something very very wrong with Rodgers management. 1

He manged to get his feet in a right old mess against Millwall. The one he didn't get (but arguably should have) is forgotten by the one he did - and that was some finish - but again he nearly fluffed it. I'm not arguing with the stats, nor with what he contributes, nor indeed with the perception that he is our saviour (as I see why people say it) - I'm just pointing out that I see why BR might have reservations.

If BR has watched Kel bail out his awful tactics countless times and still doesn't rate him, then he's clearly not right in the head The man scores goals on a regular basis that nobody else in our team is capable of and he chips in with a lot of key passes and assists. Never has a player been so criminally underrated by a manager. 1 1

Nah, I get what people say about Nacho. I don't disagree, I see what he can bring. But he does make me laugh sometimes - can I put it like that? 1

Oh I agree in that he's capable of the sublime and the comical, but more often that not he backs it up wit some quality play that contributes to a goal haha. Like you say, Millwall one moment he looked like a drunk dad having a kick about in a park and then the next minute he smashes one top corner that the keeper doesn't see until it's in the net. 1

Last night alone Thomas repeatedly couldn't get the ball in, Maddison had a couple as well on his weaker foot that he scuffed and Barnes is notorious for doing it as well. Its a simple ball lads, and they're taking a divot like they've just had to chop a ball out of a plugged lie on a golf course. 1 1

He has the odd clumsy touch, but much of his link up play is superb - I just don’t get bending over backwards to find fault with a player who is so effective. He’s not a mixed bag, he’s an exceptionally good forward. Just leave it at that. BR should save his reservations for Perez who consistently gives the ball away and the evidence shows he rarely scores or assists or even impacts games. I don’t care whether he doesn’t get his feet tangled up; I wish he’d get his feet tangled up then pull his socks up and start justifying why we invested in him!!!!!!

OK.... as long as you'll allow me to laugh sometimes I ain't "bending over backwards" either, these things are apparent. No player is perfect, I don't expect them to be, and judgement is subjective. So I don't see things in simple good/bad terms. I see what he brings, I respect what he does, and I see other aspects too. I guess it's a matter of balance from there, how you weight the various attributes. FWIW (little, because it's only my opinion) I get what BR sees in Perez. Would I personally choose him over Nacho? Sometimes.
foxinsocks Posted 1 October 2021 Posted 1 October 2021 When perez took the ball.off daka he, perez was offside.

I think it’s far, far, far more obvious how regularly Perez gives away possession, but each to their own. Why don’t you point that out? Many people backed Perez over Kel for a while, but I think that debate is gone now. Kel answered it so emphatically last season. Hopefully with Lookman in the side we are watching the last knockings of Perez for us. Would love to see him start to deliver, but he just doesn’t seem to have any clear attributes other than a decent work rate.

I hope that's been implied in my posts. I don't judge simply on who gives away possession more BTW. There are far too many candidates for that particular award at the moment!

Nice one - I think we’ve established that Kel is a class act and Perez has been underwhelming, we just seem to have taken a slightly tortuous route to something that has been abundantly obvious! 👍

FoxesWalk Posted 1 October 2021 Posted 1 October 2021 (edited) Despite that miss he was our best player in the first half of that match, WhoScored agreed, which tells you how bad the rest were. Edited 1 October 2021 by FoxesWalk
